How many Easter eggs do you get your children ??

I have a 5 year old and is an only child and she always does so well as we come from a large family so will receive Easter eggs from both grandparents, aunties uncles etc
So this year as a single parent and a bit strapped for cash I'm thinking of getting my dd just 3 Easter eggs I would normally do a lot more and maybe a soft toy or a small toy. I feel bad but I think it's a waste of money and over exaggerated !
Just wondering what other parents do/or how many eggs they get ?

OP posts:

@SheikahSlate I'm sure that's true for Christian households, for good reason. However we're only nominally a Christian household.

Carycy · 20/03/2021 20:32

1 each normally and some mini ones for an egg hunt. In the past none as I know they get them from family in advance.

Cam2020 · 20/03/2021 20:35

Small eggs for an Easter egg hunt and a small Easter egg.

I don't know anyone that buys their child more than one full sized easter egg!

One small egg, plus some little eggs for a hunt
DD still has chocolate from Christmas (and she didn’t even have that much then). She’s definitely got a savoury tooth Grin

ArcheryAnnie · 21/03/2021 00:19

I'll tell you when I DO buy loads of eggs, when I can - after easter, when they are tuppence, and cheaper than buying chocolate in regular shapes.

IFoundMyselfInThisBar · 21/03/2021 02:14

We buy the kids quite a lot of eggs, plus other things like creme eggs. mini eggs, Lindt bunnies etc. And we give them some money that they usually put in their savings accounts. They also get more eggs and money from family and friends.

RavingAnnie · 21/03/2021 03:09

1 is fine. They usually get loads from other people and I didn't want mine to eat too much sugar.

Dc1 is the same, choc coins still in the cupboard from Christmas because prefers savoury, I always though this was down to the healthy homemade baby food I lovingly prepared and good diet! However dc2 came alone and although likes savoury too def has a sweet tooth and will devour chocolate if given half the chance. They have been brought up exactly the same so it really is just pot luck.

or along *

Mustgetup · 21/03/2021 07:02

@Popcornbetty I have similar with DC1 and 2. It's so disappointing when you realise it's not your superior parenting skills isn't it?!

Popcornbetty · 21/03/2021 07:11

Haha exactly @Mustgetup you think of all the hours you’ve spent and think blooming heck they would have turned out this way anyway?! 🤔My smugness of oh dc1 won’t eat this because I didn’t introduce any sweet until x age right out of the window!

Bumpsadaisie · 21/03/2021 07:13

They get one each?

Then we have mini eggs for a garden hunt.

brogo · 21/03/2021 07:13

My son is almost 2 so this is the first year I'm getting him one. He's got one small paw patrol egg and he's got a kinder one that has a cuddly cat and a couple of the bars in it instead of an egg. I think we will stick with 2 as the years go on as he will get eggs from others , (which I may help him eat as he is still so little)

whattodo2019 · 21/03/2021 07:20

Under the age of about 8 we didn't buy them one although one set of grandparents did.
as the grandparents no longer buy one, we buy one egg.

khfdetc · 21/03/2021 07:26

This is the most bizarre thread. I have no idea why you would buy your kid more than one Easter egg. I read the OP thinking ha ha this is a joke and then found people agreed with it 😳🤣 So funny how different people have different normals. When I was a child I would get one egg from my parents and one from relatives so I would end up with about 5 all together. I will be buying mine 1 small egg each, but they are preschool age. I'm sure they will get chocolate from others too.

Liverbird77 · 21/03/2021 07:46

@Mustgetup @Popcornbetty I totally agree that most kids have a sweet tooth, whatever you feed them.
Mine are too little to ask for chocolate but the older one would absolutely stuff his face if he had the chance. That's why we aren't buying any eggs. We want to avoid the crap for as long as possible.

UnbeatenMum · 21/03/2021 07:56

At 5 my DDs had 3 Kinder eggs each and lots of tiny wrapped ones from an egg hunt at a relative's house. We are Christian so I usually buy a Bible themed book/colouring book or two each as well. Now they're 10 and 11 I'll get one big egg and a book although we did a hunt too last year because of lockdown.

merryhouse · 21/03/2021 12:52

@SheikahSlate depends on your view of Christianity, really.

While I consider it important that Jesus conquered death, and definitely celebrate it, the central tenet of my faith is that God became Human, so the Incarnation is more deeply part of it than the Resurrection.

Loveacheekysausage · 21/03/2021 13:00

I had to knock grandparents and other family members on the head as the eggs became too much. We aren’t religious, but my DS age 5 loves it. He chooses an egg and I but when he isn’t with me. DS age 2 has a dairy allergy and doesn’t eat much chocolate.

This year DS5 asked for a Lindt bunny, so he has one of the £4 ones and DS2 has a CBeebies Easter book. DH and I ate our eggs a few weeks back!!🤣

How are grandparents and other friends and family going to get these extra eggs to all your kids, though? There aren't going to be any big family gatherings even by easter.

IceCreamAndCandyfloss · 21/03/2021 14:45

Many aren’t adhering to the rules, plenty dropped eggs off locally last year despite being in lockdown.

Easy enough to comply with the rules and just send direct from the store via delivery.

Drop on doorstep?

Popcornbetty · 21/03/2021 15:09

Rule of 6 from the 29th too

Post, Amazon, meet in park, drop on door step, hand over when meeting for a walk, hand over while providing casual childcare as allowed. There's probably many more scenarios and that's just the ones that conform to rules, those are just off the top of my head. My situation is the last one and dc grandparents will also have eggs from great grandparents that will have been purchased or handed over when they do the g- grandparents shopping.

Figgygal · 21/03/2021 16:13

1 each
Will do a hunt around the garden too with small ones

I don’t understand this Easter gifts malarkey
