How much do you 'ignore' your children?

Have just been out with two families - friends of ours- who have kids about the same age, and I have to confess, I am amzed by the extent to which they actively 'ignore' their children trhoughout the whole afternoon.

By this I mean they seem to 'zone out' from all the various requests/ questions/ constant 'to-ing and fro-ing' that seems typical of under- 6s??

As a result they actively seem to enjoy themselves more, manage to have 'adult' conversations (which I gave up years ago )and it seems that their kids eventually give up and go and sort out themselves whatever it is they want....( which seems like a good thing I suppose)

I can't decide whether I'm just a mug with my kids and let them dominate my life too much... but I simply CAN'T ignore them - it seems really rude and uncaring somehow??

but that;s irrelevant as to whether this is fantasy or not. You said that Karl is only friends with disabled children- and then listed 7 children with disabilities that he is friends with. Your son's school only has 4 statemented children- which means they must all be in Karl's class. As pointed out by soapbox last night.

Some children with disabilities are not statemented- but if they do not have that level of need then it seems strange to single them out as "disabled" they should just be children (as should many children with statements) first, the disability should be irrelevent.

It doesn't ring true.

Been crying with laughter at points of it. Right better get a bit of work done now as am off at 11 to go home and ignore dd for the afternoon lol. What a life eh.

zippitippitoes · 12/09/2005 10:23

I don't think Vaunda would be keen on shooting pigeons in her back garden...

Vaunda · 12/09/2005 10:32

2 are in karls class, 1 is in yr1, 1 is in yr2.

Vaunda · 12/09/2005 10:32

whoamitosay.... is there a law about selling items which were given to me then?

Jimjams · 12/09/2005 10:33

you KNOW which children have statements? That sort of information is usually confidential.

Vaunda · 12/09/2005 10:34

Jimjams, I have one child a 7 yr old boy. No girls here yet

Jimjams · 12/09/2005 10:34

and even the "mental" ones can be difficult to spot.

Vaunda · 12/09/2005 10:35

Batters..... my name is Vaunda, has been since i was born will always be. I never use any alias as my name is uncommon enough that i don't have to. I am not lavender just Me

Vaunda · 12/09/2005 10:36

Zippi, that would be because i don't have a garden

Vaunda · 12/09/2005 10:37

jimjams yes i do know which have been staemented... I am freinds with a lot of the parents and as i say 2 of the children statemented are in my sons class.

Jimjams · 12/09/2005 10:38

Is that because you like helping the mental ones?

Vaunda · 12/09/2005 10:39

i do not use the term mental thanks. not my style, yours maybe but don't tar me with the same brush thanks.
