How much do you 'ignore' your children?

Have just been out with two families - friends of ours- who have kids about the same age, and I have to confess, I am amzed by the extent to which they actively 'ignore' their children trhoughout the whole afternoon.

By this I mean they seem to 'zone out' from all the various requests/ questions/ constant 'to-ing and fro-ing' that seems typical of under- 6s??

As a result they actively seem to enjoy themselves more, manage to have 'adult' conversations (which I gave up years ago )and it seems that their kids eventually give up and go and sort out themselves whatever it is they want....( which seems like a good thing I suppose)

I can't decide whether I'm just a mug with my kids and let them dominate my life too much... but I simply CAN'T ignore them - it seems really rude and uncaring somehow??

www, the london schools philamonic orchestra

nooka · 11/09/2005 23:47

I would guess it's an all schools thing. It's highly likely that a successful school might well have highly attaining children. After all that's where youth orchestras/choirs draw from. It's the guaranteed three places that's unreal.

QueenOfQuotes · 11/09/2005 23:50

Vaunda I know exactly what "Type" of orchestra you're talking about - but I've never heard of the "london Schools Philarmonic Orchestra".

WewaldWiwaffe · 11/09/2005 23:50

The real London Philharmonic do workshops with kids i think as an outreach programme- but I have never heard of it either.

QoQ not my problem is it. I can only let you know what pupils from my sons school partake in. The orchestra is in place and pupils from many london schools are members.

perhaps you mean the "London Schools Syphony Orchestra"?? Which I have heard of (being a musician......)

nooka · 11/09/2005 23:52

The London Philharmonic do a schools outreach thing from their web-site. I did this sort of thing as a kid - our school choir got to sing with other successful choirs (we won some borough competition) at some Christmas concerns in the Albert Hall. It was fantastic fun! Loads of kids everywhere (I think I was 10/11)

Gomez · 11/09/2005 23:52

Go away dafty....

WewaldWiwaffe · 11/09/2005 23:52

nooka · 11/09/2005 23:57

Vaunda, I'm not quite sure why you feel the need to tell us quite so much about your child and their school. I've never been on a thread quite like this one! I wish you and yours every luck in the world, and I'm sure you will have it, what with his prodigious abilities. I hope that he is a well adjusted nice little boy who is enjoying his childhood.

Now I am going to bed! It's late, it's a school/work day tomorrow, so I suggest that we all go to bed

Heathcliffscathy · 11/09/2005 23:57

so, what's the story, is this a troll or what?
