How much do you 'ignore' your children?

Have just been out with two families - friends of ours- who have kids about the same age, and I have to confess, I am amzed by the extent to which they actively 'ignore' their children trhoughout the whole afternoon.

By this I mean they seem to 'zone out' from all the various requests/ questions/ constant 'to-ing and fro-ing' that seems typical of under- 6s??

As a result they actively seem to enjoy themselves more, manage to have 'adult' conversations (which I gave up years ago )and it seems that their kids eventually give up and go and sort out themselves whatever it is they want....( which seems like a good thing I suppose)

I can't decide whether I'm just a mug with my kids and let them dominate my life too much... but I simply CAN'T ignore them - it seems really rude and uncaring somehow??

QoQ- does the Royal Ballet visit your school too?

QueenOfQuotes · 11/09/2005 23:32

of course they do - and DS1 is definitely going to get a place

soapbox · 11/09/2005 23:32

Looks like Karl really struck lucky - all of the schools SEN pupils and some are in his class

Jimjams · 11/09/2005 23:34

I think you;re right custy- but I'm also 99% sure that this isn't for real. If it is the RBS stuff is just wrong.

Vaunda · 11/09/2005 23:35

Nooka it is a lambeth school

QueenOfQuotes · 11/09/2005 23:35

it didn't start out like a fox hunt though

nooka · 11/09/2005 23:36

Intersting that although Vaunda claims her ds is friends with 7 children with disabilities ("one has hydrocaphilis, another walks with crutches, another is deaf, 4 are autistic"), the school report has 4 in a school of 240 or so with a statement of SEN (and 16 without). Of course those could all be friends outside of school, but I wonder if that is so.

nooka · 11/09/2005 23:38

So it is - still I'm sure it will be very well known locally!

QueenOfQuotes · 11/09/2005 23:38

sorry thread hi-jack - can anyone explain these results to me? All those numbers mean nothing to me

Vaunda · 11/09/2005 23:41

JimJams it is for real. As soon as i get the letter telling us when they are going to the school i shall send you it in anyway i can whether that be in an email or link it to a web page which ever becomes easiest.

I know fo a fact that they do attend the school and every wednesday Ricky teaches karls class an hour of dance and hen he moves on to the next class. he used to do this only on a wednesday after school but that changed this term. As for the auditions they have run for a few years, we have also had the children from the school (many yrs ago) appear in Joseph with Jason donovan. 1 little boy was also picked to be in miss saigon but his family wouldnt allow it. as i said both of them were a long time ago. however some of the children do play in the schools philarmonic orchestra and some of the boys are in the lambeth boys choir.

nooka · 11/09/2005 23:43

OK bed now. Can't believe I have wasted my evening enjoying such drivel and to think I had every intention of working and an early night! Good night everyone!

Fio2 · 11/09/2005 23:44

jason was in jospeh in the 90s

WewaldWiwaffe · 11/09/2005 23:45

A primary school has a philharmonic orchestra?

annh · 11/09/2005 23:45

Oh just stop it! A school with less than 300 pupils and several special needs pupils in each class (although this seems to be dangerously at variance with the official figures) manages to have a philarmonic orchestra?!

Vaunda · 11/09/2005 23:45

the friend with crutches is outside school, the autistic child is in his class as is the one with hydrocaphilis. The deaf child is from our local church, one of the autistic children too. one of the others is the child of a woman i met through the internet and became very good friends with. and the other autistic child is from our park we go to frequently.... all of which we don't see on a daily basis except the one autistic boy in his class. the other boy with hydrocaphilis now only goes to school a couple of days a week as he also goes to a centre to help him.

jampots · 11/09/2005 23:46

oh please keep playing along everyone - dont ruin it

WewaldWiwaffe · 11/09/2005 23:46

annh- x posts !

QueenOfQuotes · 11/09/2005 23:46

no she said the "Schools" Philarmonic Orchestra (which I've never heard of!).
