Ciao tutte!!

OP posts:
Francagoestohollywood · 10/02/2010 11:49

Oh yes, there's lots of speculations about the attack. I'd love to believe it was all fake, tbh...

AllQuietOnThePippisFront · 10/02/2010 11:58

Hello Spaghettina. Wellcome to MN little Italy. I'm an Italian girl (no way I am a woman!) in London. Offload any worry/thought/joy/anger in here. It is very therapeutic.

Buch I was lookinh at campings in Puglia and I think I want to come your way. A$$ End sounds good for holidays !

Lol at pagelle and more LOL at "pazza Inglese" ! I can just see the drama and the solemn faces. Oh wait to see the panic to get into a specific sezione at the Liceo Classico, the one with so and so etc etc etc.

Gio should we arrange a meeting between your FIL and my SIL? They might feel passionately in love and FO somewhere and leave us in peace living our postive life! Booked Roma holiday for the 6th and the 7th of April my dear. If your DP plays somewhere we'll be on the front row!

MM yes why did you agree to move?

AllQuietOnThePippisFront · 10/02/2010 12:00

Ah re the FB thing: I hate FB by the way but I got in touch with some old friend so for that was good. Everything else is trash. I loathed it even before yesterday's experience. I have been thinking about that tw*t and his comments to Obama and I swear I am so tempted to comment. Instead I will hide these idiots and never log in.I am almost wasting all my inner peace I found at yoga this morning.

Francagoestohollywood · 10/02/2010 12:08

Oh Gio, I totally missed your post earlier on (I'm a bit rimbambita today). Still shocked by your fil's reactions, wtf? He is a real egocentric. Blimey. Anyway, so good to hear you had good news. And well done your dp for the review!!!

Francagoestohollywood · 10/02/2010 12:10

However, though (sorry, I don't mean to be that confrontational) how are the efforts of Italian parents to put their dc in the right sezione of Liceo Classico any different from British parents stressing about 11 plus, catchment areas, private schools?
At least Liceo is free and open to all.

TheMysticMasseuse · 10/02/2010 12:22

LOL LOL LOL at la pazza inglese! you are probably alrady referred to as that anyway we love you, btw, so keep being a bit pazza and molto inglese!!!

Gio- I am so angry with your FIL, but how does your DP take it? how much of an influence does he have on him? i am sure you have talked about it in the past so sorry if i am threading old ground.

Ciao Spaghe, and welcome! I am Italian, lived in London for 10 years, just moved to Switzwerland and hating it so far- you may want to skip over my posts as they are invariably really depressing and self indulgent. Luckily my girls here haven't kicked me out yet

Franca!!! is epi 4 the Puss-i one???

Why did i agree to move to switzerland? because i value my marriage above everything else. I realised at some point that if i had said no, or if i had insisted dh commute back and forth, it would have broken something. maybe not right away, but eventually. And because a few years ago dh and i agreed that he was going to be the one to push, career-wise, and i was going to take it slowly (up to that point i had been the high flier and higher earner). I took that decision freely and willingly and this has been a natural consequence.

Francagoestohollywood · 10/02/2010 12:27

Yes, it's the puss- iiii. Jimmyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy. Priceless. Though I'm now very worried.

Masseuse, I would have done the same if that helps. I think a weekend relationship would be hard on both the adults and the children. You did the right thing, but of course you've earnt the right to moan . But I insist, you should give skiing a try

Btw, I was thinking watching the wire yesterday... Baltimore is actually worse than Palermo (fiction wise)

Bucharest · 10/02/2010 12:43

Isn't Baltimore the US city with the highest rate of homicides per capita in the whole world? (I think I read something in Bill Bryson)

Franca- lol- no different at all, except most of the ones I see insisting their kids go to the Liceo are so blinkered they can't see their kids are just not good enough. (maybe it's kind of opposite pushyness to that you see in the UK - and here on MN ) So many of the poor teenagers who are sent to me for lessons would have been so much better at some kind of professionale, yet their parents will not accept it....

TheMysticMasseuse · 10/02/2010 12:44

Jiiiimmmmmyyyyyyyyyyyyy!!!! Oh, how I love the Bunk. I really do.

and incidentally, Franca, you have done the same

Francagoestohollywood · 10/02/2010 12:49

Yes, it is Buch. It's a really scary place. I think the annual amount of murders in Baltimore equals the Italian one, but I might be wrong.

Yes, totally, agree re teenagers in the wrong place. Sadly, in the last 10 yrs Istituti professionali have lost their credentials, there used to be very good ones here when I was a teenager.

Masseuse yes ... and I didn't even have children when I moved!!!

Francagoestohollywood · 10/02/2010 12:50

Have you seen those ads for One Born Every Minute? It looks like the sort of program I'd love. ANd I can't watch it from here.

Bucharest · 10/02/2010 12:56

vpnuk- google it, it's a IP hider thingy. You pay about 7 euro a month and get BBCiplayer and all the rest..... It's changed my life!!!

Francagoestohollywood · 10/02/2010 12:58

really??? God I love you Bucharest!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Francagoestohollywood · 10/02/2010 13:01

can you do it from italy too? Pay with cc?

Sputnik · 10/02/2010 13:21

Buch, you're kidding!
So DS can now watch Waybuloo, right? (he fell in love in the UK)
Forgot to say earlier well done to your DD.
And Gio sorry your FIL is still being such an arsehole, I hope your DP is not letting it affect him. And hope you get some results soon.

Franca I started season 3 yesterday, I am trying to pace myself but season 2 was so gripping I was watching 2 at a time sometimes, what with DH being away. So anyway no hurry yet, as I might rewatch them.

And talking of school angst I am off tomorrow to enroll DS for the local materna, even though they told me there were so far 38 applications for 18 places and I am way down in the graduatoria. Will go through the motions anyway.

Bucharest · 10/02/2010 13:27

Yes, my dears, and it's the first site of this kind that I've found (or rather my lovely friend in France has found, via her cousin who lives in Spain lol) that actually works. There are various others which you have to faff around with, which then give you a list of IP "blackout" addresses but which never seem to work. This one just links you up to a UK address and there you go!

Franca, I am Miss Technophobe of Technophobe City- if you don't try and understand the gobbledegook, but just press the buttons it tells you to press, it works straightaway.

I think I paid with Paypal, but I'm sure it takes ccs.

Rosa · 10/02/2010 13:40

Rosa joins the Buch admiration society .... Yesterday dd1 was sooo upset when on Cebeebies computer they wouldn't let her listen to the Guess with Jess song !
Gio you deserve the lets not kill FIL ( or any relation ) for the month ...Mind you Pippi can normally compete pretty well on that front. I like the others are just amazed at how selfish your FIL is and well done to DP for the article mention...record contract next stop ?
keep us updated on how he goes ( repeat x ray etc). If FIL wants a CAT straight away tell him to pay for it ........
Spaghettina hi and ciao - As you might guess by the pics I am in Venezia ( hmmm don't thing there was any water in the shots though)
Glad you all like my dd's I had to get the pics shrunk so I could send to the UK.
I had a Sindy and tried to wash her hair - it went ginger and a mottled mess - She still has her ball gown that I coveted for ages in the local toy shop . Might get her out for DD this summer .....

spaghettina · 10/02/2010 16:25

Thanks for the warm welcome!
Franca - cool nick! Glad to know there's a fellow Milanese on here

Bucharest - I was wondering which bit of the A$$ end you were in. Puglia...I actually might end up having to move there myself as my DP is from there and they have a family business. All I can say is that I'll try to put it off for as long as possible...I'm just not sure I can see myself there and would feel kind of "cut off" from it all

Masseuse - I had the same impression of Geneva when I was there a couple of months ago - pleasant enough, but the people were pretty unfriendly I thought, and it must be frustrating being surrounded by luxury jewellery and watch shops (unless you have serious cash to splash!) Also let's face it, fondue is totally overrated.
But look on the bright side, you're in the heart of Europe, lots of other expats there, and you can escape to some amazing scenery and fresh air.

AllQuietOnThePippisFront · 10/02/2010 16:35

Yes Buch impressed and happy about your DD. well done. I love being the crazy italian here.

MM I didn't mean to criticise you in any way or be nosey or judgey. Of course one does it for the marriage and yes a marriage based on commuting every week would have easily broken up. I don't know what I would have done. Probably go, if DH would have had no choice. But it would have to have been a real NO choice situation I think which I suppose it was for your dh too.
Dh's work is not going to take him anywhere so not a problem there. He'd like to move ideally near the sea but I don't. That is not a strong reason for us to up sticks at the moment as he is happy here and here we met. I would lose a lot more in moving than he would gain.

Francagoestohollywood · 10/02/2010 17:25

"Also let's face it, fondue is totally overrated" . heheheheh!
You know that me and dh went to Anguilla on our honeymoon and stayed in a very small hotel, owned by a couple of swiss. Lots of people from swiss there. They made fondue every tuesday....

Bucharest · 10/02/2010 18:11

I love fondue!

Spag- I'm in Trani.

Francagoestohollywood · 10/02/2010 18:48

I had to post quickly as ds needed to check the bollettino neve asap. He checks it everyday

Sputnik: season 2 is great, innit. If left to my own devices I'd probably watch more than 2 episodes in a row. It only gets better!

Buch, will try to work that website out later with dh, I need his moral support

The dc are watching tintin... bedtime in 30 mins... aaaaaaaah

Francagoestohollywood · 10/02/2010 18:55

Spaghettina, I saw your posts on that thread... is the place where you are going to ante natal classes in central milan nr corso magenta? I went there too when pg with ds (with other friends of mine) and the other day we were reminiscing of the good times there!

Where are you planning to give birth? Can I recommend Ospedale San Raffaele or Macedonio Melloni as 2 good places to give birth? Buzzi is also said to be ok.
I gave birth at Mangiagalli, as I was a bit paranoid... I wouldn't recommend it for a straight forward labour.

TheMysticMasseuse · 10/02/2010 19:45

Pippi, of course I am not offended! it is a very legitimate question.

Spaghe, just the thought of fondue gives me flatulence. I am determined to go through swiss life without touching the stuff.

Sputnik · 10/02/2010 20:39

I tried fondue once, about 25 years ago. I'm probably still digesting it.
