Ciao tutte!!

Masseuse, you can get a basic Barbie at less than 10 euros

Francagoestohollywood · 09/02/2010 19:15

ps: I know it's not politically correct, but the pleasure I get from playing with my barbies was immense.

Francagoestohollywood · 09/02/2010 19:16

the pleasure I got. I don't play with barbies anymore!!! (and dd is not that keen on barbies)

TheMysticMasseuse · 09/02/2010 19:25

i know i know but she's not even 4 ffs! so i keep fobbing her off with this lame excuse (plus i want her to learn you can't just get a toy whenevet you want) i was hoping she wouldn't get into barbies until she was, i don't know, never. But she's getting one for her birthday next week...

Francagoestohollywood · 09/02/2010 19:28

Yes, quite young for barbies I agree with you. She might not know "what" to do with it once she has it.
I also tend to buy "proper toys" only at christmas and birthdays (though I'm currently spending £££ on figurine panini ).
Dd plays with her Barbie only in the bath, bizarre.

tommycarcetti · 09/02/2010 19:47

Never had barbies as my mum thought they were a terrible example for women and too expensive, blah, blah, fuck it, i wanted one, i lo?ved playing with my friend and her barbie! TBh if feminism is about whether a young girl plays with a barbie or not, the whole movement is stuffed. Agree that 4 seems young, if they do barbie at 4, what do they do at 8? Is anybody joining hte campaign to stop retailers selling clothes that make little girls look like little whores by the way?

Mm, can I ask you why did you agree to move to Geneva?

tommycarcetti · 09/02/2010 19:51

lol at ""wha"t to do with it when she has it", i imagine mini MM waiving the damn sticky blonde around the house wondering what hte hell to do with it...

Francagoestohollywood · 09/02/2010 20:15

I suppose the feminist movement didn't like the idea of girls spending their time changing clothes to a blond tettona. I actually learnt to sew basic clothes for my barbies. I often played that my Barbie was a doctor and lead a very interesting life. And had lots of babies (the fiammiferini). Kids, career my barbie had it all ... don't tell mumsnet

Francagoestohollywood · 09/02/2010 20:17

lol at "the whole movement is stuffed"

TheMysticMasseuse · 09/02/2010 20:21

i have no idea how Barbie got into our lives, but I reckon if i deprive her she'll just get more obsessed...the really worrying thing is that dd2 will be exposed to it too, and she's not even 2

hopefully she'll get Barbie, get really bored with it, and that will have cured her of her obsession once and for all and it will all work out perfectly

Francagoestohollywood · 09/02/2010 20:26

Yes, lets hope it works out that way.

Sadly second children tend to be exposed to "bad" stuff quite early. My PFB didn't watch any tv until he was nearly 2... dd knew Cinderella by heart at that age

TheMysticMasseuse · 09/02/2010 20:33

I know. dd2's first word was "barbapapa" (and sadly this is true)

AllQuietOnThePippisFront · 09/02/2010 21:36

I did play with barbie. I was a tomboy. But sometimes even a tomboy wants to feel girly. I found them boring after a bit and certainly I don;t remember them being my favourite toys or game. we didn't have many because expensive - but so are playmobil and lego - but had the house with the lift going up and down .

I am very against pink and everything that boxes girls but got dd1 a couple from the charity shop to see as her friend was and is obsessed with them, in the same way as I got her a babydoll etc. dd1 has never played with either of them and they rest at the bottom of the basket. I will never buy them new unless she develops an obsession. mind you very few toys are new in the pippi's household, prob only the scooters. I can see why feminists do not like them but it's one mini clog on a whole system of values. Like franca says you can play with barbie and make them have a life, be gay, etc... there's more to life than marry boring Ken, FFS, I bet even they know that by now!!

Francagoestohollywood · 09/02/2010 21:47

Oh Ken was hideous, wasn't he... Big Jim was somehow sexier.... but not tall enough
It's difficult to put children in boxes. I loved climbing trees, skating, roller skating, but also loved playing with dolls (I often played "orfanotrofio", I blame candy candy ), barbies etc. I played with lego and with my db's cars. I played "ufficio di collocamento". Basically, I liked playing a lot. It was awful becoming a teenager for me .

Dd loves playing with dolls. Always has. She is very motherly and tender. She also likes playing the maestra d'asilo.

AllQuietOnThePippisFront · 09/02/2010 22:06

Dd1's favourite game is 'teachers'...

Can I share my digust with you? A old acquaintance (sp?) contacted me through facebook. I went to see his profile and through his got to see that of some peole I was very close while young and they are all very berlusconiani with awful comments re Obama etc.

I feel sick and want to vomit. I'd like to think in my head those who thinks like that are not people I ever met. Not those I played all the above gamed with... yuk. I must close my FB account. I never use it and when I look at it I feel always sick. VOMIT!!!

Rosa · 10/02/2010 07:19

early for school so check out my profile pics....Won't keeo them on for long .....
Raining here today so need courage to go out and get well and truly soaked !
Will read posts later

BananaGio · 10/02/2010 07:41

Rosa they are gorgeous! Bless them, did they enjoy?
Was always a tomboy as well. Mum still hangs her head in shame remembering me running out of sunday school when little and ripping off hated pretty dress to reveal football strip below! Was a Sindy girl though, clearly remember when I got my Sindy Ballerina for Christmas and the complete passion I had for her!! She was a tomboy Sindy however and used to get into all kinds of trouble with DBs Eagle Eyes Action Man!
DP went to docs yesterday. No other real news, he said the xray wasn't done very well and he needed to do another before deciding whether to get him to do a CAT scan. He did say again though that it wasn't a tumour which given DPs family history was the main thing I wanted to hear. DP seems a bit calmer. FIL was a knob as ever and screamed and ranted about the doctor not saying to do a CAT scan immediately - "è superficiale, lui non capisce niente" blah blah all at stereo pitch. Oh and FIL also took it upon himself to tell DP that he had told me on Saturday so it was a bloody good job I had already told him that!! And then he topped it all by saying to DP who showed him proudly that his band had a mention in a music magazine that noone cared or knew who they were and he should be concentrating on his poor health rather than queste cazzate.I think I would like to request an emoticon for "pinning someone against a wall by the throat" but until I get that then multiplied by 1000 will have to do.

Morning!

Photos are gorgeous Rosa!

Gio- grrrr ancora to your knob of a FIL! Does he just like being a misery-guts? Talking about looking on the bright side (not!)

I've invited a poster I found on another thread over so hi Spaghettina (lol- love the name!) if you've found us!

Very windy and rainy today....post-mortem on pagelle in schoolyard yesterday. One friend seemed a bit delusa, even though her son got 8 straight through. Lord knows what they are going to be like when they're all at the Classico and getting 6. (by which time I will be in the UK or dead, or wondering round in a straightjacket talking to myself and dribbling soup on my cardi, followed by lots of cats and everyone will say "oooh guarda! la pazza inglese!")

spaghettina · 10/02/2010 10:17

Buongiorno a tutte! Just thought I'd introduce myself, Bucharest pointed me in this direction. I'm English but have been living in Milan for 10 years (how did that happen?!) and recently found MN as I'm expecting my first baby - a girl - in April.

On the subject of Barbie, I would have loved one as a child, but wasn't allowed because she was too tacky and American or something. Instead I had 3 Sindy dolls - the nice wholesome English girl that my mum obviously approved of. I wonder if Sindy still exists?

Bucharest · 10/02/2010 10:58

Welcome Spaghettina!

I'm also English, living in sin with Italian dp and dd aged 6. Am in Puglia (affectionately known on here as A$$ End lol) Been here for 15 yrs. Have hate-hate relationship with Italy most of the time, but manage to channel my argh!ness if I try hard enough!

We are a mix of Brits and Italians on here, both in Italy and the UK (and Switzerland)

I had a Sindy too! Had to save up for her myself, and was devastated when I tried to give her a Purdy cut which failed.

Dd has Barbies, all bought for her at parties, she sort of plays with them a bit, but prefers her cuccioli cerchi wotsits. (and now wants the "pietre preziose" that are hidden in ingots......

Francagoestohollywood · 10/02/2010 11:27

Rosa, che bellllleeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Ok, I'll catch up with the thread now.

Francagoestohollywood · 10/02/2010 11:34

Hello Spaghettina, welcome. We live in Milan as well, after 8 yrs in the UK (came back as I wanted Liceo Classico ... just kidding Bucharest ).
I was born and bred here in Milan, so let me know if you need any kind of help, though I'm sure that after 10 yrs you are more clued up than me

Pippi: . Drop that friend. Drop FB (never had an account though, so I don't know). I have no patience anymore for people with so distant opinions from mine. I think I'm getting old.

Sputnik · 10/02/2010 11:34

Wow they are both really adorable Rosa
Hi Spaghettina!

Sputnik · 10/02/2010 11:46

I got an email today analysing the photos of Berlusca's incontro with the replica of Milan cathederal, basically suggesting it was all a fake.

Francagoestohollywood · 10/02/2010 11:48

Ah and congratulations on your pg spaghettina

Sputnik, I've only just watched ep 4 from season 4... we are a bit slow, I hope it is ok with you. How are you getting on?
