OP posts:
Francagoestohollywood · 25/03/2010 17:18

Ah great! Enjoy!

AuldAlliance · 25/03/2010 18:53

Franca,
Apart from my disprin in a pretty jar, I only bought lots of boring stuff, as I am following a weight loss thread in an attempt to lose my shameful muffin top.

I did look quickly at the rest of the Italian selection.

There was ready-made risotto pronto, some chocolate biscuits that looked like oreos or some such, lots of pasta, some extortionate passata and tinned cherry tomatoes, and some amaretti that caught my eye. I resisted, partly because of the aforementioned muffin top issue, partly because there seemed to be about 5 in the box, and it was 5 euros.

Sarko may be more hirsute than Silvio, but I think he's less entertaining and more downright nasty. But maybe Silvio is only entertaining from a safe distance...

Francagoestohollywood · 25/03/2010 20:05

Yes, I can confirm that B. is entertaining only from a safe distance. Here it is all rather depressing (imho of course).

May I recommend passata Mutti if that's in stock, deffo worth it.

I have in the fridge a slice of deliciously smelly roquefort (though I prefer English blue cheese)

Francagoestohollywood · 25/03/2010 20:05

Do you find Sarko nastier than B?

AuldAlliance · 25/03/2010 20:17

Franca, I meant because Sarko is subtler, IYSWIM.
Berlusconi is more upfront, I think.

Sarko appeals to a very wide range of people; many who voted for him were stunned to discover afterwards how crude, vulgar and aggressive he actually is. Lots of people don't realise how controlling he is of the media, and how destructive some of his reforms are. I think B is less devious.
But I could be wrong...

Francagoestohollywood · 25/03/2010 20:23

Yes, I see what you mean.
Yet, the majority of Italians don't understand how dangerous Berlusconi is and don't seem particularly disgusted by recent scandals. We have various (and very important) regional elections on sunday... I'm already bracing myself...

AuldAlliance · 25/03/2010 21:06

I think it's to do with the medis, actually. I see B as a bit entertaining, because when I see articles about him in the French press, they are often highlighting some childish, stupid incident, rather than analysing his destructive political actions.

We had regional elections last weekend. Sarko's party only won in Alsace and 2 overseas departments (Fr. Guyana & Réunion). But he says they are regional, not national, so not a reflection on his achievements. He has, however, reshuffled his gvmt.

AuldAlliance · 25/03/2010 21:06

medis=media, obviously

Francagoestohollywood · 25/03/2010 21:15

Yes, I read that the socialist party did well in last week's elections.

I loved it when the Queen told Berlusconi off for being noisy.

Francagoestohollywood · 25/03/2010 21:20

here

AuldAlliance · 25/03/2010 21:35

Excellent!

here is Sarko asking the Romanian President if he can keep the pen used to sign a treaty

And drunk at G8 summit after a meeting with Putin

(sorry, can't find any English versions)

Rosa · 26/03/2010 10:37

LOL at Sarko vs Berlusca - I got a letter from Berlusca ( well so did everybody else it looks like) I used it to cover some dog poo that somebody had left in my calle.
Confirmed flat for Luglio ...Bloody $$$$ but hey ho
Minirosa temp yest and is a rompe piu del solito but otherwise ok . When I took her plaster off in the bath last night I noted she still has the bump from the last one in Feb !

Bucharest · 26/03/2010 11:17

I haven't had a letter from Berlusca I did get an email from Daniela Santanche when I wrote to tell her she was a racist though

I agree that sometimes B can seem just such a clown that it's easy to forget just how serious he is about world takeover...do you remember when there was some summit and he was caught on camera hiding behind trees and frisking Angela Merkel- that was so funny. (might be on one of those clips, I apparently need to update my flash player before I can see any more youtube)

Francagoestohollywood · 26/03/2010 11:55

ROFL at Sarko! was he drunk or just shaken by the meeting with Putin

I haven't received any letter from Berlusconi, but I'm very impressed by Santanche's reply Bucharest. What did she say?
I remember I couldn't believe it when she went to protest against some muslim religious celebration here in Milan (and I still shiver in shame at the memory). She also tried to dress the part of a serial protester... she had an elegant dark green parka and a pair of brand new Hogan... pathetic.

Francagoestohollywood · 26/03/2010 11:56

I can't remember which celebration it was, was it the end of fasting? (I can barely remember my name this morning)

Bucharest · 26/03/2010 12:34

I remember, in front of the Duomo?

The woman makes my blood boil more than any other politician, including Silvio...I emailed her when she was with Storaci, spouting off about the children of immigrants shouldn't get nursery places above Italian children, so I said that as I was at work, as an immigrant, paying my taxes and education her offspring (so to speak) to speak Engleeeesh, what did she have to say about that.....(I also said I hoped when she sent her brats over to the UK on vacanza studio they would be treated as the nasty furriners she so likes to talk about)

She sent me an email saying she "refused my accusations of racism". Meh.

Francagoestohollywood · 26/03/2010 13:41

Lol at replying she refused your accusations of racism

I remember that thing about nursery places. It was disgusting. Where do they expect the children of immigrants (included the illegal ones) to stay, when their parents are out looking after our old ones or nannying wealthy Italian kids (often it's the Italian families who don't want the immigrants to become legal and therefore pay higher salaries...)

Bucharest · 26/03/2010 13:43

Zackly....

Meh.

(but t'will teach me to think any possibly reasoned discussion about religion could ever happen.....)

Might try the Manifesto!

He even said he liked Bossi the other day (as I was muttering about euthanasia being too good for some people...)

Francagoestohollywood · 26/03/2010 14:06

I think you are doing very well on that thread, actually!

He likes Bossi? . Capperi. Why?

Bucharest · 26/03/2010 14:29

He just likes people with no peli sulla lingua I suppose....I can sort of see his point, I admire (in a weird perverted kind of way) Thatcher, et al, for not being afraid of standing up and saying what they think, but there does come a point when you have to say, but blimey, what they are saying is so wrong!

Am off hook on other thread, they're back to Nazis.

Francagoestohollywood · 26/03/2010 16:05

Bossi has far too many peli sulla lingua . And has done sod all to fight corruption and prevent money from being wasted in southern Italy (and northern Italy too of course), which was his first "battle". He is just a racist, who wants power and has no idea on how to manage a country properly, imho.

Francagoestohollywood · 26/03/2010 16:06

Sorry, "Bossi has far too many peli sulla lingua" doesn't make sense at all . He is too much with no peli sulla lingua!!!

Francagoestohollywood · 26/03/2010 16:07

Lol at admiring Thatcher in a perverted sort of way

spaghettina · 26/03/2010 16:14

ciao everyone, have been off the radar recently.. am finally on maternity leave (a tough wrench for a freelancer) and have time on my hands to play!

Yesterday I was told that you can't give your children middle names in Italy without them all being considered part of the first name. So they have to sign all official documents etc. with all of their names and not just first and surname otherwise it could cause problems (grrr at Italian bureaucracy! )

So now I'm wondering, will it be mean of us to give our daughter (due next Saturday!) three names as we'd planned?
We really want to include one Italian, one English and one Armenian to reflect our heritage, and have spent months deciding on them!
The full name would total out at 25 letters in all. What do you think, would it be a real hassle for her?

As for Berlusconi, Santanche et al, I can't put my thoughts into (polite) words so...

Francagoestohollywood · 26/03/2010 16:25

Hi Spaghettina, congratulations on the imminent arrival of your dd

I'm not sure how it works, as ds only has 1 name and dd has 2. Yes, I think both names are needed in official docs, and in fact her "codice fiscale" is formed by some letters of her surname, name and second name.

Rosa might know how it works
