thanks for the suggestions

Francagoestohollywood · 18/03/2010 21:34

Oh, and yes, I think children truly love camping. Ours were so excited to sleep in a tent this summer!

Sputnik · 19/03/2010 16:08

So, update on DS: we met up with this speech therapist today, she is really lovely and offered to meet us in the park to see DS. Unfortunately we took ages to actually find each other (Villa Borghese is so huge!) so just had a quick chat in the end. Anyway it looks like she can take us on and she gave us a few ideas to try at home. She said he had a lot of positive things, but is definitely behind with language.

We also have an apointment with a pediatrician next week, so things are moving.

I realised that it takes nearly as long to get into the centre of Rome from here as it did when we lived out in the sticks! We went part of the way by car then took the metro, it took well over an hour. Don't know how exactly I'm going to get to any appointments, might have to pluck up the courage to drive into the centre.

Rosa · 19/03/2010 16:38

Quick read..Sput that is good news and positive as for driving in Rome - Auguri and positive vibes... We have been to the festa di Papa at dd nursery it was soooo sweet but I can't find the regalo I bought dh ages ago I have hidden it too well.....

Francagoestohollywood · 19/03/2010 21:11

Sputnik good news on ds, I'm so happy you found this lovely speech therapist! Give him a cuddle from us

Rosa, have you found the present? I do this all the time, loose stuff I hide in the flat

Ds is a bit poorly, mild temperature and a headache. Boh! We are at the inlaws nonetheless, lets hope he feels better tomorrow.

BananaGio · 20/03/2010 08:49

Rosa any joy with holiday booking? I remember I had the same problem last year, nothing in the villages, apartments at all - I got something off www.kijiji.it/ in the end-Brange recommended I try it and it's where we are going this year again
Sput that is good news that things are moving on ds. What kind of things did she recommend you try at home?
Franca how is DS?

Francagoestohollywood · 20/03/2010 10:16

Gio,ds seems much better today thanks , and has in fact managed to make me go arghggggggggghghghgh a few times .

Oh Rome must be beautiful in the spring. Here it's grey again and wintery.

Margeonbread, have a fab time in Venice. Can I suggest (I always suggest this as I loved it when we did it) a trip to Pellestrina. You need to go to the Lido and get a boat from there. It's beautiful (and there is a fab restaurant, da Nane I think it's called, which has great fish)

BananaGio · 20/03/2010 10:49

clouded over now Franca- spoke too soon. still lovely and mild though. I spent the last 2 mornings working on my balcony in my Tshirt though-twas bliss! Glad ds is better

Oooooh I so crave some proper sunshine and warmth. I think there's 25 degrees in southern spain (ds is addicted to the meteo... and we had to watch the meteo channel on sky yesterday, that's how I know )and I'm so envious!

Rosa · 20/03/2010 16:15

Bucharest · 20/03/2010 16:19

Hello all, am very tired and have a softplay party this evening......

Franca, a Fb friend of mine has messaged me to say a FB friend of hers is a FB friend of yours! My friend has no idea who you are, and I have no idea who her friend is, just one of those bizarre coincidences

Francagoestohollywood · 20/03/2010 16:33

How bizarre! My mother would say "Il mondo e' piccolo" .
It's not scamy, is it???

Francagoestohollywood · 20/03/2010 16:34

Rosa, I'm a bit of your dh's social life...

Rosa · 20/03/2010 19:12

Francagoestohollywood · 21/03/2010 21:06

Me and dh went out with friends yesterday and I had a rough day today (basically I had to stay in bed with nausea and a hell of a headache). I wonder if it's the flu or me not being able to cope with 2 birre piccole and 2 small glasses of red wine?

Bucharest · 22/03/2010 08:33

lol- Franca is hungover!

Survived softplay.....last day of school for me today, hurrah! (until 9th April, can finally clean this pit)

Francagoestohollywood · 22/03/2010 09:56

Oh wow buch, these are long holidays! Are you going to the uk?

Bucharest · 22/03/2010 10:15

Nope, am locking my door and not going anywhere, especially A***.

Dd finishes on Friday (voting) and is back on Wednesday (for one day) and then she finishes, so it's just me who finishes today....

Rosa · 22/03/2010 20:17

AuldAlliance · 23/03/2010 11:22

Hello, ladies.

I have a daft question. My local supermarket has an "Italian" shelf with lots of things I look at in awe and bewilderment. The other day I was wondering about some white things in a big jar, called galeffi (I think), to mix with water and make a kind of effervescent drink.

Is it nice?
Is it good for you?
Is it a well-kept Italian secret to prevent wind?
If I buy a jar, will my life be sparkling and transformed?
Or is it for geriatrics?

Francagoestohollywood · 23/03/2010 11:37

lol lol lol Auld, I think I love you

I think Galeffi (the jar looks very nice) is some kind of a digestive drink like Citrosodina, which has always been very popular with my parents.
Yes, you pour 1 tbsp (or more, I can't remember) in a glass of water and it goes all effervescent. And a bit sweet.
I loved the flavour as a child, wouldn't be too keen nowadays. It is said to help with digestion... my parents would give it to us when we had "acetone" (ketosis?) or to help after a stomach bug.

Go ahead, get it!

AuldAlliance · 23/03/2010 11:44

Thanks, Franca! (for the info, though the declaration of love is nice, too!)

The jar is indeed pretty. That was why I was looking at it.

I may well buy some next time I am shopping, and tell you if it brings new sparkle to my life and tummy.

I love the 'foreign' aisle in my supermarket: the 'English' bit (British being an unknown concept to the French) has lemon curd, marmalade, baked beans, custard creams, shortbread, Irn Bru and has recently begun selling plain hobnobs at a mere 3euros/packet.

I was trying to imagine if Galeffi was the Itlain equivalent of any of these iconic British items.
