oh, Franca, I'm sure you look great. saying that, after finally getting a bob I dreamt since I was little, DS and DP have asked me to grow my hair, so i'm at that horrible non-taglio stage, I do love my bob, but I think that IF we'll ever get married, then long hair would be better for the wedding...

MM, can you ring a gp just for advice? no idea of what could be though, hope she gets better soon.

same here, I'd love another one, but I think I'd find pregnancy very hard, as much as I love feeling the baby kicking, but I could hardly walk with dd and definetly NOT having another "natural" delivery.

anyway, Happy birthday to me!

Francagoestohollywood · 04/03/2010 21:36

Happy Birthday dear Camo

Camomilla · 04/03/2010 21:53

Thank you Franca! e buona notte, i'm sure the dcs will get used to the hair. or join us in facebook and we'll see if they're right

SuiGeneris · 04/03/2010 21:55

Happy birthday Camo!

MM: I hope your DD is feeling better. If you are still concerned, I think there is a service similar to NHS Direct on 0900 144 033 (have never tried it though). Hopefully though she is now fast asleep and will wake up feeling better tomorrow.

Franca: am impressed at the courage to go drastic on the hair front. I, on the other hand, have not been to the hairdresser since October, because I usually go when I am in Italy and have been unable to fly since then...

Francagoestohollywood · 04/03/2010 22:00

I've no idea how to join you on facebook

SG: I used to have really short hair, so it wasn't a salto nel buio.

How's it going, btw?

TheMysticMasseuse · 05/03/2010 09:40

Hello everyone. Dd1 still stick this morning, but I am taking her to the pediatra at 11. I think Rosa is right and she's got slapped cheek....

SG- how's it going?

Franca, I can't believe your ds cried, that's so unfair!!! Children are so conformisti, no?

i would love to go short, but my hair is my only good attribute (the only thing i like about myself), so I keep it long although i am getting more and more fed up with even the most basic of maintenance, and i have cervicale... maybe when i am more grey i'll take the plunge and get a lina wermuller do....

Please check this out. It is not a joke. I tell you, the Swiss are seriously uncool...

TheMysticMasseuse · 05/03/2010 09:41

are you on facebook franca??? come and find me (i still don't know your surname!!! v v shady....)

Francagoestohollywood · 05/03/2010 09:44

No, I'm not on facebook Masseuse... I already waste too much time on the net as it is... but you could tempt me, you know

Yes, children are conformisti. Today they seem more positive about the hair, ds told me he likes the basette.

Let us know how the visit with the pediatra goes.

I'm off to yoga. Ciaooooooo

Survived it all ! It was in fact a huge success and bah humbug to all those kids who did not come and the parents who did not reply . In the end we had about 25 kids and they had a ball. I am responsible for kids all getting sugar highs , probably sweating too much as I made them all run round like loonies but to be told by the parents ( who I made play with balloons as well ) that it was one of the best parties they had been to made it all worth it. Plus I introduced pass the parcel to the Italians !!!! ( I bet it turns up at more parties in the future.) DH just paid and he ws pleased that it all went well. The cake was fab and I will post it as soon as it had been shurnk in pixel size.
( Oh how proud am I today ....and knackered !)
BAd side Minirosa has a nasty cough that is not going away and dd1 has a very low voice and I think is going the same way .MR should be having vaccinations next week me thinks they will be moved -again !
Go how did the Jordan look go ?
MM dd?
Franca have they got used to your hair yet ?

Rosa · 07/03/2010 18:50

Cake added to profile ......

Also Buch / Sput or anybody can you suggest a good book to help me with my Italian . I speak it fluently but my written is cr*p. I really need to work on it. I enquired about courses but the only ones they do for 'stranieri' are aimed at those who really can't speak or tourists coming to learn. It is a combination of spoken and written and they said it really wouldn't suit me . Any suggestions..I need an idiots guide really ( I failed at Latin and Spanish written at school but passed French oral and Spanish a treat !

Hi everyone, not posted for a while as I feel like a bomb has hit me. When I picked DS up from nursery on thurs they told me they suspected he may be autistic. TBH I have been worried for a while about his lack of progression in language and other things, although he is sociable and very affectionate.
I started a thread about it here.
I desperately need a plan but DH is away for another 9 days and I really don't feel like telling him befre he gets back.
Feeling very lost.

Francagoestohollywood · 08/03/2010 11:29

Oh Sputnik, this must be so worrying for you and you must be counting the hrs for your dh to come back.
I've seen the other thread you started in Special Needs.
It is difficult to give you any advise, as I've no idea of clued up doctors in Rome (while I could give you good starting tips here in Milan). Do you want me to start "researching" here in Milan?
It seems impossible, but I'm pretty sure there is good help available here in Italy too.

Rosa, the cake is gorgeous, you should start a business! And I'm so happy that the party was a success!

Gio, hello! Glad to hear you are better, how did the night out go?

TheMysticMasseuse · 08/03/2010 11:56

Sputnik, don't know what to say, huge hugs to you, ((

I don't know much about autism, other than it's a spectrum, so in itself the label doesn't tell you anything.

Hope you get answers soon, in the meantime wea re always here to listen and hold your hand.

TheMysticMasseuse · 08/03/2010 12:02

Sput, i also wanted to say- speak to your pediatra in the first instance, who will presumabyl refer you to a neuropsichiatra infantile or similar? I'd be amazed if the specialists didn't speak english, after all all the textbooks are in english and even my uncle (who's a neurosurgeon in his 60s) can speak passable english due to studying/attending conferences etc.

If you want i can ask my mum to start asking around for a specialist, i seem to remember one of her best friends' son is training in that field.

personally i would try not to worry too much at this stage (i know easier said than done), and focus on getting the right people to assess your ds. The nursery worker might have experience but as you say on your other thread it's not really relevant.

Rosa · 08/03/2010 12:49

Oh Sputnik what a worry and with dh away as well .. I would as said go to a paed if nothing just for a referal. Also I would ask the teacher if she knows of any specialists in the area. What about containg the USL/ASL and asking for a list and then contact them and see if anyone speaks good English ? The Veneto site does list the docs connected with the hospital here. Even if you don't go to them at least you could do some of the ground work before dh gets back.
It might be a speech problem. A friends ds who was 3 in December only started speaking in summer he is still behind but improving.
We are all here for you ...

BananaGio · 08/03/2010 13:33

Oh poor you Sputnik being on your own at the moment and having to deal with this. Agree with going to see paed just to get ball rolling. However don't assume the worst- it may be autism but it may also be that he is just developing at a slower pace. The tantrums may have been because the fact his language hindered him expressing himself so it was just frustration for example. I know my DS has done this because he has been slow to speak (even compared to other bilingual friends). I am not an expert on autism obviously but isnt the fact he is openly affectionate for example is a good sign? My parents work with autistic kids and from picking up on what they say the lack of expressing affection easily seems to be one of the characteristics they share? As I said though I don't actually know if this is a characteristic or a stereotype as am woefully ignorant on it. It looks like you are getting some good info on your other thread anyway from people who do know about autism. Keep your chin up, don't assume the worst and if you ever fancy a glass of prosecco and an offload then let me know.Am only a few stops from Ostiense on the fs train so could easily meet up half way.

Thanks everyone. I am so disorganised I haven't actually changed pediatra for the ASL yet as only recently sorted out our residence, wil be doing that. There is meant to be a very good pediatra all the FAO people go to who know lots of specialists, so I think that will be our first port of call when DH gets back. We are lucky to have health insurance so hopefully something will be covered.

Of course you are right many of the specialists will speak english, I am being a bit too doom and gloom over this. MM thanks for the offer of help, will let you know if I draw blanks and need to take you up on it.

At some point in the next couple of days I will phone DD's school to ask about a SALT and get that rolling, can't trust myself not to burst into tears face to face. I feel very emotional just thinking about this.

TheMysticMasseuse · 08/03/2010 13:39

I agree with Gio that slow speech development and tantrums on their own are not necessarily red flags.

dd1 used to throw the scariest, most violent tantrums when she started nursery- at home though. Some children are just more tantrumy than others.

Anyway, not wanting to belittle your concerns. If i were you I would try to write down a plan of concrete actions you need to take (ie change pediatra, call FAO pediatra, call school for SALT referral etc) and focus on ticking them off the list one at a time. If at all possible... try to stay away from google.

lots of love!

Sputnik · 08/03/2010 13:52

Yes you are right MM, I will feel better with a plan.

It is true that typically autistic kids have problems expressing emotion, I am taking some comfort from that. But the fact that he is not really pointing and doesn't seem to understand a lot of what we say is really worrying. I'm pretty sure he doesn't have a hearing problem, he can hear the Shaun the Sheep theme tune start up from several rooms away.

Francagoestohollywood · 08/03/2010 13:57

How was the old pediatra like? Trustworthy? Would it be useful to discuss your concerns with him/her?

Francagoestohollywood · 08/03/2010 13:59

I remember him loving Shaun the Sheep .
Has he ever had a hearing test though? I'd check that out nevertheless. You can have a hearing test done with the referral of the pediatra.
