Sputnik · 23/11/2009 13:32

Are you guys serious?
Or is it just his Guardian photo that looks like a jerk?

Sputnik · 23/11/2009 13:35

Actually I would go as far as to say his photo puts me off reading his column.

Francasaysrelax · 23/11/2009 13:40

Sputnik .
I don't really think he is good looking, no. But his column used to make me ROAR. ANd I loved his tv programs as well.
You should give the column a try, imho

I just did in fact, he is quite funny. I suppose I shouldn't judge by appearances!

Francasaysrelax · 23/11/2009 14:02

He used to have the same pet peeves (is this the right expression? boh!) as mine!

LOL at Charlie Brooker you are all mad !!!And anybody will do a better job of Pm than GB ......
Still no idea on if we will be in the Uk for Xmas the commune will not give out the December turni until the end of this month they really are the limit - I cannot book anything even doctors/ optician visits etc as I don't know if he is working or not . PLus we had a Huge argument as they wanted dh to take a days holiday for a specialst medical appointment ( requested by the GP). The GP only had a form for if he was ill - he is not he is having follow up tests etc. We got there in the end but they are a bunch of tossers .......

AntonioGramsci · 23/11/2009 15:19

Oh, sorry, I know I am maybe a bit over the top about CBrooker being hot, hot, but any man who makes me laugh out loud can have my body, simple as!

Rosa, but if you book your flights at the end of the month they will cost you a fortune!

Dont;w worry about boasting about the weather, I am happy if you are happy. Tbh the older I get the less I seem to feel crap about the weather, I would have killed myself by now living in England.

AntonioGramsci · 23/11/2009 15:22

Franca, do you remember studying a book at the elementari, the story was set in the Italian countryside, a family was at its centre, and the vendemmia was a big part, I often think about it, the cover was brownish....

Francasaysrelax · 23/11/2009 16:29

Antonio, no I don't think I've ever come across that book. Sounds like a lovely book !

Oh yes Rosa, che peccato you have to wait so long before booking your tickets...

Let me investigate this Charlie Brooker ... I did a Sputnik and never even bothered to check him out. How did I miss his articles. Let's have a look and give him a chance.

Bought DH Lawrence Son and Lovers from charity shop. Why oh Why if I have a massive pile on my desk?!

AntonioGramsci · 23/11/2009 18:52

I could never get through a DH Lawrence, well except for Lady Chatterley's lover which I looooooved as a hormonal teen.

It is very good of you Pippi to give CB a chance!!!

SuiGeneris · 23/11/2009 19:53

Hi guys, what a mixed bag of a weekend we have all had. Have not caught up properly yet- I have a 32-item to do list (prioritised too) and are not being very disciplined, since, despite having 2 items due tomorrow I am playing on MN instead of getting on with it or cooking dinner...

Pippi: how was Stabat Mater, please? I was going to read it this summer, then forgot it in Italy before starting it. Is it worth asking for it to be brought over at Christmas?

Weekend was a mixed bag for me: it started very well with a relaxed Friday with a good friend and delight at the quality of the stuff brought by my new internet grocer. Then we had in-laws staying for the weekend (major honour, they are always too busy- in fact the only reason we could be fitted in was a swine flu epidemic that meant their other plans for this weekend were cancelled) and it turned quite stressful. Cannot pinpoint why, perhaps it is pregnancy hormones making me overract (never thought extra-stoic marble upper lip me would say something like that) but even a short chat with the suocera over breakfast made blood pressure skyrocket and triggered a Braxton-Hicks-fest that made me wonder whether I'd spend Saturday afternoon strapped to a monitor. Which fortunately was not the case, but you get the idea.
Sunday was better- in-laws left and, after managing to ruin (almost) a cake that I have been making with my eyes shut since I was about 12, we spent the afternoon with some lovely friends, but somehow I feel cheated out of my weekend- which is selfish and unreasonable, given it started and finished well and 48-hours with well-meaning suoceri are hardly an ordeal, but there you go...

Though sharing it all with you already makes me feel better- thank you! I wonder whether I can add 30 minutes MN a day to my to do list, under relaxation...

SuiGeneris · 23/11/2009 19:55

Sorry for the repetitions- brain really has turned into a colapasta- I cannot even proofread and edit my own writing...

Camomilla · 23/11/2009 20:58

SG, I understand, I understand...... just the thought of thinking when pil could be coming would bring on bh...

vendemmia, ahhhhhhhhh, the memories, ised to love it...

rosa, candles working then

been busy so avoided MN otherwise would have got nothing done spent the w-end emptying wardrobe, dismantling it, building new one, and filling it up, filling big bag of unwanted stuff in the process... oh, so nice though to have all my hanging stuff hanging INSIDE the wardrobe and not squashed. still got too much stuff, half of it hardly worn but i'm too sentimental... now need to buy dp's wardrobe and do same thing, thne start sorting kids' stuff as poor ds's very crossed with stuff taking over his room while we do all this. keeping fingers crossed dd will be out of our room (ds would love to have her with him but dp not convinced yet) by xmas.

MI, how as the rugby? (btw, found out ds needs to be all in black decorated with little stars or one big one...)

MM, understandable about feeling low, big change imminent , just talk to us and will try to cheer you up... have you finished work yet?

pippi/AG are you meeting s.where central? would love to see you and meet the mini ones (if you'll have me that is)

right, notte as dp wants laptop and need to go to bed early tonight

Camomilla · 23/11/2009 21:01

sorry about bad typing, painted my nails for once a nice antracite/black so trying not to mess it up for once...

Rosa · 23/11/2009 21:01

Sui ...Don't worry about your editing the MI guys have coped with my mass of mistakes for nearly 20,000 posts!!!
Pain about the w/ end I know just what you mean everything said just grates....
Keeping dd off school a bit longer well materna as now there is scarltina in giro there and I just can't cope with that right now.....MInd you she is getting cabin fever and the weather is typical NOvember grey and damp so not as if we can go out for long walks etc.... Vediamo might give in !

Sputnik · 23/11/2009 21:16

Camo, try convincing your DH, our 2 are fine together, keep each other company and sometimes even, play quietly in there together in the morning before coming to bother us.

Francasaysrelax · 23/11/2009 21:53

Hello, have just watched 2 episodes of the wire and gutted that the series will end in just 2 more episodes. Shall I get season 2 asap?

Camo, happy to hear you have your new wardrobe (and I am too unable to get rid of "sentimental" stuff)

SuiGeneris, sorry your weekend wasn't as good as predicted. What did mil say? I think I remember you posting about them not showing much interest towards your pg and the baby, is this still going on?

Rosa, no, not also the scarlattina . I agree in keeping her at home from school if you can..

TheMysticMasseuse · 23/11/2009 22:20

just watched an ep of the wire too.. best line ever "you try getting some clean piss in Baltimore" and a very good McNulty moment. .aaaaaahhh Jimmy Jimmy Jimmy....

SG- MILs do that. my tolerance for my MIL has actually drastically reduced over the years. i am now offended with her for not having ONCE called me to check on me while i have been on my own for the past 2 months. i mean, che ti costa? she's just so wrapped up in herself, and plus she probably thinks i ought to call her. but then when i meet her she always gives me lectures about women solidarity. and she never calls her grand-daughters! and she prefers dd1 to dd2, openly and unashamedly, because dd1 looks like her....

i am getting stressed just thinking of her. off to sleep.

love to all!

Francasaysrelax · 24/11/2009 09:04

- spoilers alert-

Masseuse, I watched the episode in series one where Kima gets shot. How figo is McNulty when he runs to her rescue????? . I'm starting to develop a serious crush on him.

Wow Masseuse, your mil sounds dreadful.
