Hello, welcome, benvenuti

OP posts:
Francagoestohollywood · 02/12/2009 12:41

We still have a bank account in the UK. I haven't renewed my credit card, but I kept my debit card to use to withdraw money in the UK. It expired this month and I wonder if they're sending it to my italian address, where they already send our statements etc.
I really need to ring.

Rosa · 02/12/2009 12:56

Have you had to verify the debit card? thats what we have accounts in the Uk but address here. DH cards come here usually about 1 month before they expire.
We have to call as well to unblock the debit card for the 3rd time I hate HSBC with a passion but we can't change banks as we don't have a UK address ( well Dh )

Francagoestohollywood · 02/12/2009 13:01

I haven't received my new debit card yet. It expired in November. I wonder if they sent it to our old address in the UK .
Do you call on the tel number written on the card?

Francagoestohollywood · 02/12/2009 14:01

They had indeed sent the card to our old UK address. They'll send a new one, first to our branch, then here. Boh!
It was nice speaking in English though

minervaitalica · 02/12/2009 15:36

you all watching the wire and salivating at McNulty. I need to wait until after DH's birthday on the 29th to watch it! And God bless amazon. What would I do without them? Books and DVDs are ridiculously expensive here - and toys too. Do you buy from any UK websites and get stuff delivered to Italy by the way?

Good to see you are having fun with bank cards. I spent the whole day doing Inland Revenue stuff, so I think I have the right to be miserable...

Francagoestohollywood · 02/12/2009 16:11

I use Amazon only to buy English books and dvds. I haven't been brave enough to buy toys off it. Otherwise I buy from shops, I'm not too keen on Internet shopping.
I have a Feltrinelli card and another fidelity card from my local bookshop.

Sputnik · 02/12/2009 16:52

I have sometimes got toys delivered here by Amazon. We always do xmas in the UK, so no problem there. I found a good Italian site for playmobil though, here, they also have sites that do Lamaze, lego and other stuff.

This looks like a nice site, though I haven't used it myself.

With the exchange rate how it is atm though you can get cheaper on Amazon usually.

Camomilla · 02/12/2009 18:05

hi everyone!

looks like I really really need to get the wire..

chickened out of making the star costume, couldn't find what I wanted, then tried the fabric shop, got some silvery faux silk but think DP wasn't convinced and went to get this.

was going to do calendar for PIL, but they're already getting the school pic with both DC so I will do mug with 3 pics and maybe some prints (should really dressed them up and take a decent pic of them for a nice christmassy picture)

franca, will check your thread later - been snowed under with work (really, people expect me to clear 50 page documents on stuff I know nothing about in 2 hours, actually, I received one today at 2.50pm as I was about to go to pick ds from school and they wanted it cleared by 3pm!!!)

better get food ready!

Francagoestohollywood · 02/12/2009 19:11

Sputnik, I've bookmarked the websites, I love the playmobil one.

Camo, oh dear, it really sounds like they are dumping stuff on you at work, I'm shocked that they wanted you to clear docs in 10 mins!
The star costume is very pretty, I'm sure your lovely ds will look amazing in it

Sputnik · 02/12/2009 19:28

That star costume is really cool!
I am thankful though that DD is going to be a singer and will only need school uniform!

Sick to death of hearing her practise though, they appear to be performing something entirely tuneless.

Francagoestohollywood · 02/12/2009 19:32

sputnik!
Ds is learning "Nel blu dipinto di blu" at his choir lessons at school

Sputnik · 02/12/2009 19:38

OMG, is he practising at home? I can only imagine my DD's rendering of Volaaaaaare! [twitch]

Francagoestohollywood · 02/12/2009 20:05

I'm afraid he really likes to sing. A lot. He is particularly deafening enthusiastic in his version of "Born in the USA"

Rosa · 02/12/2009 20:11

Thank god we have nina oh nina oh nina nanna oh and also some other song which neither dh and I can work out the words but it sounds quite nice . DD obviously takes after her mum and can sing in tune !!!!

Francagoestohollywood · 02/12/2009 20:16

rosa...
Off to watch a little of bit of The Patriot on tv... just a glimpse of my dear Heath Ledger.

Sputnik · 02/12/2009 20:26

My parents actually banned me from singing at the table when I was little. I am beginning to see their point

Francagoestohollywood · 02/12/2009 20:35

. We had the "chi canta a tavola e a letto e' un matto perfetto".

Camomilla · 02/12/2009 21:01

Ds is always singing and humming at the table... but yes, it's true, the songs they learn at school don't really have much of a melody, do they? luckily for the xmas play they're not allowed to sing at home because it's a surprise - at least that's what ds says!

had terrible shouty-mummy moment.... but ds can be aaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrggggggggghhhhhh sometimes... he can make me so mad and then I feel terrible (doesn't help I suppose that the 2 of them have been taking it in turns to wake up at night for the last 4 nights). fatto pace now, but aaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrggggggggghhhhhhhh

Sputnik · 02/12/2009 21:08

Don't worry Camo, we all do it.
Sounds like your DS's teacher is being considerate, unlike my DD's teacher who is encouraging them to practise at every opportunity, in the bath etc etc.

Francagoestohollywood · 02/12/2009 21:22

Awwwww Camo. I so see where you are coming from. My ds can be so aaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrghhhhhhhhhhh as well.

Camomilla · 02/12/2009 21:37

thanks, I think now I'll have to go through the Celebrations box to feel better.......

and getting more and more worried about the poor xmas tree and decorations... dd's developing such a mischievious streak, she get the damien look and you know you're in trouble!

franca, what was your thread?

Francagoestohollywood · 02/12/2009 21:48

here camo

Sputnik · 03/12/2009 09:26

I put all the potentially breakable ones out of reach. Fabric ones are good and hard to damage.

Francagoestohollywood · 03/12/2009 14:45

Is everyone detoxing then?

Rosa · 03/12/2009 19:02
