Oh wow!
I'm actually in crisi di astinenza, waiting for season 2 and 3 to arrive...

So, are you all having eventful friday nights?

OP posts:
AntonioGramsci · 27/11/2009 20:36

dp snoring upstairs, me downstairs reading the guardian and catching up with what exhibitions are on in london..so in a word pretty eventless, I am only waiting for a decent time to go to sleep...

Francasaysrelax · 27/11/2009 20:39

you do sleep a lot antonio ... I'm envious!!!!

OP posts:
AntonioGramsci · 27/11/2009 20:45

oh, yeah, i can more 12 hours on the trot, looking after the kids is exhausting for me.

actually i was going to go and see a short movie made about the Giardini by a British artist, it is shown near us, but no, troppo stanca...

AntonioGramsci · 27/11/2009 20:47

sleep, not more

Francasaysrelax · 27/11/2009 20:57

I'm impressed!!! No, I can't sleep as much as I used to anymore.
Anywya, I'm at IL, who have sky, will go and look for some trashy program on discovery health!

OP posts:
TheMysticMasseuse · 27/11/2009 21:02

i can't remember the last time i slept more than 4 hours in a row

i would have loved to go to that conference, but i doubt they would have had a session on the subject closest to my heart "Jimmy McNulty- the best glutes on tv?"

TheMysticMasseuse · 27/11/2009 21:02

documentary on Johnny Cash starting on bbc4... do i bother?

Rosa · 27/11/2009 21:25

DOne it ...Booked the flights for the UK.We got Dh shifts at 7pm today . Credit cards in freezer .... COming back it was a silly price so we can't come back until Jan 5th as before it was over £400 from Gatwick and Ryan Air wanted £472 .. Plus we have to get up from the West Country !
It will be worth at as just hearing how happy it made Gps when told them makes you realise what counts in life !
Right off to bed ..
Notte all

Camomilla · 27/11/2009 21:32

yep, 12 hours sleep are a veeeeeeery distant memory... especially since dd...

usual friday night here, ds delaying bed time because he has no school tomorrow (just gone back to bed, he needed some water and as usual just crept up downstairs giving me a heart attack "because otherwise I'd tell him off for coming down" ), and I'm on the sofa watching tv waiting for DP, at least he's finishing at 11 tonight...

Sputnik · 27/11/2009 21:37

Oh that's great Rosa, glad you've got it sorted.
IKWYM, there was a moment I thought we wouldn't be able to go this xmas, everyone would've been gutted, DD already takes it for granted we go over for xmas.
I haven't made much progress on xmas shopping either.
Posting from a cold mountainside here, we've got the fire going. In Rome it is still pretty warm, we haven't had the heating on at all, apart from briefly a couple of weeks ago.

Sputnik · 27/11/2009 21:43

I don't think I'm actually capable of 12 hours sleep anymore! Normally get around 7 (mostly because stay up farting around on the computer til far too late), I think I am slowly emerging from years of sleep deprivation actually, as DD was a really crap sleeper and by the time she improved I was pg again, which was worse for me sleep wise than having a newborn.

Camomilla · 27/11/2009 22:43

very rosa, I sooooooooo want a "proper" family xmas , anyway, if you wave when you're flying above gatwick I might see you

maybe not 12 hours, but I used to go to bed earlier, pre broadbad/laptop... never managed to sleep til late, a part from the odd occasion when I came back from clubs etc at 6 am, so doesn;t really count (thinking now of last time I visited DGP in france, DP and I went to celebrate NY's eve with cousins and came back at 6am as DGP were having their coffee, we went to bed and got made to get up for lunch at 12, we were having our espresso as nonna was dishing out escargots!). otoh, first half of pregnancy I could sleep for days, last couple of months of DD's pg though I was in agony, and now, even if I hate DS&DD waking up ealry I am normally awke before them, I just wish I could stay in bed a bit longer without two monkey jumping on me

SuiGeneris · 28/11/2009 07:22

And on the subject of sleep, here's someone who would love to sleep late these last pre-DC weeks, and instead keeps waking up at 6.30am!

Still, at least I get to catch up. I remember liking Villette, but not as much as Jane Eyre- and while a good 20 years after the event I remember the latter relatively well, cannot say the same about the former...

Has anyone read "A beginner's guide to acting English"? I picked it up at the library completely by chance and am now hooked- managed the first 160 pages yesterday morning on my way to, at and back from hospital (and in between making minestrone and ragu)... Definitely recommend should anyone be stuck about what to read next. It has also solved one or two Christmas present questions...

Franca: Friday night almost eventless for us. DH had booked tickets to a charity amateur dramatics evening in Italian, so we both traipsed off to the theatre, which was mildly amusing, and had dinner in gastropub near it that, according to our guide, was supposed to be rather good. It was ok- we appreciated the open fire by our table more than the food. Still, I guess it will be difficult to do this sort of thing next year... And am proud that DH managed to follow two hours of a play in Italian.

This might be a long shot, but are any of you familiar with Linux/Xandros? I have managed to uninstall, by mistake, the browser from my rather elderly netbook and the reinstalling is proving to be rather challenging... Will post in the techie section as well, but thought I would ask here first.

gio71 · 28/11/2009 10:09

Hi everyone just checking in. Not been around much as been snowed under with work and work and work . Anyway happy belated birthday Franca! Rosa glad you have booked up for Xmas- we go in 2 weeks as well and am getting very excited at the thought of Manchester Christmas markets. Hi to everyone else and will have a proper catch up with what have missed. After I have cleaned the house... and done yet more work.....I should be rich with all I am doing but nope all i am is still in debt! Debt free by the age of 40 is my new mantra! 2 years to go.
Am off before this post descends into self pitying..........
Buon weekend tutte!
PS You have prompted me-am off to get first pandoro- pandoro for breakfast-yum!

minervaitalica · 28/11/2009 11:18

Hello everyone!

Was not on yesterday pm as I had a last minute job interview - went OK, so pls keep fingers crossed for me!

Jealous of those going to the UK -Rosa I know exactly what you mean by having to go west! It takes us longer to go from London to Penzance than from here to London... There is no way I am going to MIL for Xmas though - she hates Xmas because it is too stressful to organise, while I like making a huge fuss (not for me, for DD of course )

Gio 71 - I like your mantra. I do not see it happening for us though (and it's still quite far away for us!

12 hrs sleep? ha ha ha ....

gio71 · 28/11/2009 12:49

good luck Minerva, what was the job for?
going to buy Xmas tree now

Francasaysrelax · 28/11/2009 14:26

Hello all,

at Jimmy Mc Nulty the best glutes on tv. Perhaps we could organize such confrence Masseuse? It might be succesful you know?

Yesterday night I ended up watching re runs of "no going back" (you know the lovely english family who moved to tuscany and ended up having 4 children, I think we talked about them already ) and "cerco casa disperatamente" with dh's aunt.
Tonight I'll try to drag dh to the cinema...

SG well done your dh for watching a whole play in Italian (and lol at the gastro pub. I was always envious of people going to gastro pubs, as there weren't any in Exeter )

Rosa, well done for getting the tickets. The jouney to see family and friends is always worthwhile. I still remember those long journeys, we often had to wake up at 4.30 in the morning to go into Bristol airport to get the only flight to MIlan (and before then we had to travel all the way to London....)

Gio, hello!!! I like your debt free plan. And I love the pandoro at breakfast!

Minerva, fingers crossed for the job interview.

I usually go to bed at around 23.30/midnight.
When I was pg with ds I fell asleep anywhere/anytime. Perhaps I was storing up all the sleep I lost in his first 2 yrs of life...

No decs on our house before Dec 1st !!
Minerva keepjng fingers crossed for you.
Gio I am not sure how much shopping I will get in before Christmas but am hoping for some post shopping !!! How long are you away for ?
I watched something similar Franca maybe it was last night as well I honestly can't remnember ....No it wasn't as I was on the Pc all night booking flights.
We have quite sensible flight times but if we go to the Canaries then we don't ..Am holding fire on them at the mo mainly due to the timings ..It was going to be Tenerife then I saw that the flight went from Tenerife North and we need South ..So if we are comng back late then we can look at Furteventura and Lanzagrotty as well....( Oh how your holidays change when you have children !!!)
12 hrs sleep...A dream from the past I normally manage about 6 if I am lucky then maye another 30 mins after mr feed...

gio71 · 30/11/2009 07:31

decs up and pandoro eaten so feeling christmassy now . ds humiliated me in Oviesse when we were buying a treee. He was running around while I was at the till, I shouted at him to get next to me, he pointed at me and shouted tu cattiva a few times and then pointed to his eye where he has a red mark from walking into something and said guarda, mamma cattiva. So all the till ladies swung around and looked at me as if I was a child beater and one said (half jokingly)-that child will have you in jail!

gio71 · 30/11/2009 07:32

forgot to say have asked for the wire for xmas from my brother-you guys have convinced me I need it.

Francasaysrelax · 30/11/2009 09:32

Oooooh poor gio... here, have a cuppa of hot chocolate (but at your ds...)

I'm trying to summon up the energy to go out to do various errands. The weather is vile.
At least I'm planning to do the christmas tree this afternoon with the dc and their little friends, so that's making me a little bit more cheerful.

Pippi, I finished reading Home remedies, and really enjoyed it.

OP posts:
PincoPallino · 30/11/2009 09:43

Who is it by again Franca?

I think I put it on my Amazon wish list actually.

Should we do a MN LI Secret Santa? It would be fun wouldn't it?

Wow I am surprised at all these Xmas decs already going up. not before the 8th here and maybe even later. The tree would be all dry and miserable otherwise.

Watched The Green Mile yesterday for the first time and couldn't sleep for ages after.

Gio LOL at DS. Later on in the year I will need your suggestions re restaurants in rome. Dh and I are thinking of eloping for 2 nights !

Francasaysrelax · 30/11/2009 09:48

Angela Pneuman.

I too want to take dh to rome for his birthday in May.

Sputnik · 30/11/2009 09:48

Gio!
Not sure what to do about a tree, we normally cut down a branch but do it nearer xmas as it doesn't last long. DH won't countenance me buying a proper tree and neither of us wants a plastic one. We have some really nice decs though and DD will insist we have one, so maybe we'll have to work out a way of transporting a large branch in the car. She already noticed the neighbours have a wreath over the door.
