Hello, welcome, benvenuti

OP posts:
Rosa · 26/11/2009 20:46

We can't watch the i player over here...its a bummer !!!

Been downloading pics for christmas lessons!!
lots of santas to colour in !Notte tutti

PippiHasALifeOfRiley · 26/11/2009 20:49

Has she really said that? She was never my favourite tbh.

AntonioGramsci · 26/11/2009 20:57

oh, bum, forgot about iplayer not working in italy.
yes, she did, i like her because she came from very little, and has done well for herself, and she is witty, and she is an eastender like me, though nicer house.

The programme is good fun, whether you care or not care about art. Have a look.

AntonioGramsci · 26/11/2009 21:19

It is like the Apprentice but without the horrible contestants, here they are really sweet and young and innocent. I loved it!

Camomilla · 26/11/2009 21:22

hello penthe! and bucharest! missed the deep south grezzi stories

DD was Lola for a few months before she was born, when DS was really obsessed with C&L and was adamant his sis was Lola!

we had our first pandoro for breakfast today!! yum yum (no, can't stand panettone either)

AG, I'm really trying to remember villette, so I guess it wasn't that memorable (and remember, bronte obsessed here, did theses on the 3 sisters and I even had to get my very own Heathcliff). Don't think it was bad, but not the best. and now feel like re-reading JE, but still on W&P for the next 10 years at this pace... guess you're done with that.

my eyes are really hurting now, too much reading for work these last couple of weeks so have to love you and leave you, night night

PippiHasALifeOfRiley · 26/11/2009 21:22

sOUNDS good, will try and watch it tomorrow.

Have you been an eastender all your life AG? I thought it was just a recent thing. I have lived everywhere in london but east. chance only rather than planned logistic tbh.

Camomilla · 26/11/2009 21:26

sorry, my post sounds really brusco (is that a real word, i tell you, sometimes I forget my own mother tongue), but really wnated to have a conversation with you but can't look at the screen

AntonioGramsci · 26/11/2009 21:28

More than 10 years now.

I am now watching the programme on A Kapoor, Pippi you will see the link straight after School of Satchi, amazing piece of art at the beginning. Check it out.

No, I am not done with W&P, 100 pages to go, funnily enough I found the war chapters actually more interesting than the non war ones, but deffo harder to read at night...

AntonioGramsci · 26/11/2009 21:28

not brusco at all, buona notte..

AntonioGramsci · 27/11/2009 11:33

Good morning, freezing today. Did my volunteering and now cannot wait for dd's nap so i can put my feet up.

Francasaysrelax · 27/11/2009 11:48

Ciao a tutte,
I wasn't around yesterday night, as I was at a meeting of ds's school "comitato dei genitori", to try and organize the Christmas party. Think PTA, but with fierce Italian parents and no cups of tea (but a ciggy, which is nicer )
Anyway, we might be able to organize a small play for the children, though the head teacher might turn it down for bloody health and safety reasons.

Really cold here today and the caldaia is broken, so I'm writing wearing my hat and giaccone.

AntonioGramsci · 27/11/2009 11:56

Goodness, that was a long meeting you were at. I am knackered, I need a cuppa....

Francasaysrelax · 27/11/2009 12:06

yes, nearly 3 hrs
I have to pick up ds and friend in 10 mins, so I'll have to wait a bit before making myself a nice cuppa. Much needed, given that we have no heating at the mo

OP posts:
Bucharest · 27/11/2009 12:32

Oh deary, dd back from English and the maestra has told them that "mistress" means signora.

minervaitalica · 27/11/2009 12:34

Argh, heating tends to break on the day it really gets cold...

At least you seem to have survived the parents' mtg Franca - I am dreading those things. My mum said that the biggest fights were always for the food in the mensa - with people literally shouting, crying and storming off - apparently there was a strong north-side divide in terms of what food should be served!

I am continuing with the non-stop cooking here... Made a Xmas cake today, will decorate tmrw (penguins, snowman, igloo that type of thing). And Sunday it's Guinness cake. I really am loving it! Perhaps I shall call myself nigellaitalica from now on

Bucharest · 27/11/2009 13:02

I love parents meeting, I wouldn't have enough material for my book without 'em!
Latest is 3 friends of mine whose children are all in the same Moncler clad class have been having hooooooge problems with one of the teachers (the one who asked what Mummy does to get Daddy to buy her a new fur- remember?) Anyway, these 3 huff and puff and so the rappresentante organises a special meeting with the preside to talk about these issues, and none of the 3 of them bother to go."cosa andiamo a fare?" WTF???

Francasaysrelax · 27/11/2009 13:29

I love parents meetings too... there are always some obnoxious parents, usually those moaning a lot. And they usually moan a lot only about their child's micro needs, when, usually, such meetings try to address the general problems of the whole school or to provide nice things for the whole school etc.
But I usually find people I really like. Not all of them, but some are really nice.

at mistress!

Minerva, I think you should all invite us around for Christmas . You could entertain us nigella style (ohhhh I'd love to be invited at nigella's )

I'm having a proud mum emoticon. On our way back to school ds was chatting to 2 classmates who started to say not very nice things about another friends and ds defended him and told them that he really didn't like what they were saying etc etc. Bravo, bravo, bravo, I was really happy and proud

OP posts:
Bucharest · 27/11/2009 13:31

Nice PM moment Franca!
I want Nigella's basement kitchen with all those lights and candles everywhere. Was going to make Nigella's fudge today but forgot ingredients.

Rosa · 27/11/2009 13:37

I want to get Christmassy here but have to clear space ten to decorate etc. Think we will aim for teh weekend of the 5th - A bit early but Dd is desperate to have the tree up and she has her 1st decoration for the tree made in school !!
We have had 1 parents meeting and it was a bit boring - liked the ones at the nido more fun !
Buch what are those mums like and LOL at the mistress !
Well done Francas ds good boy - thats the way to do it !
Minerva I am so impressed at getting everythig done so far in advance I still haven't tackled the xmas shopping properly and I have the school things to prepare .....

Francasaysrelax · 27/11/2009 13:43

Thanks

I can't wait to start the Christmas decoration. In fact, this weekend we are going to retrieve our tree and decorations from the IL garage...

Rosa, are you still clueless about when you can travel to the uk? This so annoying, I don;t think I could program anything in the uncertainty.

OP posts:
Rosa · 27/11/2009 13:45

No - I saw a colleague today ( of Dh) and he thought that there was news on the shifts . DH is calling the office but on the web it still says nessun data disponibile....It is doing my head in.
Mind you think we have found a hotel in Tenerife in January ...do you think it will be too cold ??

Camomilla · 27/11/2009 13:46

hello! went shopping this morning, just to get a couple of things, or so I thought, as we had big tesco delivery on tue, but I managed to spend biiiiiiiig time. at least I got a couple of dvds and books for stocking fillers (and stockings too to hang on the caminetto). dp gone to work, dd having a nap, so must get some work done before I have to go get ds. I so wish I had all this cooking time... actually, I have to remember to make ragu' later as DP got the mince yest from the butchers. nearly got the full box set of the wire at tesco, the cheapest I've seen it at £60, but ended up spending about £100 over what I thought I needed (really, no idea how , only had 3 big bags!!)

never been to a PTA mtg, as I always see the same patronising mums looking down on everyone at cake sales etc. proper yummy mummies, casual but always impecable.

at mistress! how's your friend btw Bucharest?

Camomilla · 27/11/2009 13:50

go Franca's DS, go!!

Rosa, all healthy in venice? ds's the same, but no time for the next couple of weeks to do any decorating! have to make bloody star costume, could not find black thick tights/leggins in DS's size, so will have to try mothercare tomorrow, and went and forgotten to get a present for his friend on sunday, basically main reason I went out in the first place!

Francasaysrelax · 27/11/2009 14:00

Camo, I think the whole box set is 57 or 54 pound on amazon

Rosa, grrrrrrrr. I hope they'll let you know asap. Not sure how warm it will be in Tenerife in January. Certainly warmer and drier than here . Perhaps around 20 degrees? I would go, deffo.

I know what you mean Camo. Thankfully, not many yummie mummies at both my schools. Mostly over worked and harrassed mothers (is harrassed a word, even? )
