I saw mm and penthe on the oddone thread too... she got seriously on my nerves. Is she the one who has a column in the guardian family section?

MI, yes, I can'tybuy clothes from catalogues, though I did buy clothes for teh dc when we were in the Uk, to escape the mothercare purple/camouflage galore...

Bucharest · 25/10/2009 10:45

Here you are! (and here I am!)

Skimming v quickly as dd has finished h/w (and "recuped" another 2 schede from when she was poorly) so have promised her a go on Fish World......

It's Happy Birthday to me today (44- eeek, I don't look it, do I????) so dp has his pinny on and is making lasagne and roast lamb.....(and because he is in bad bad books as I overheard him telling his bloody mother on phone that the reason he wasn't going there with dd today was because he was going to the partita- he wasn't, that's just his stock excuse for them....but I was indeed as surely, my birthday should be excuse enough???????

I did the Yahoo version of Anna's article with my lovely economics graduate student on Friday......

Re: clothes, I love some of the Boden stuff- and think the quality is v good- especially the cotton t shirts etc....you can tell it's that high-numbered cotton (or whatever the technical thing with cotton is!) but some of the designs are horrific (Maria Von Trapp and the Baron's old curtains springs to mind)
Remember to scout round for codes if you order from Boden Minerva- I think there's a 20% ff one about at the mo'but it might be from the Spring preview.

John Lewis is marvellous for customer service, t'is true....always buy everything like cameras/printers/phones/tvs from there...and their own brand children's clothes are v good.

Didn't get into Odone woman as think blood pressure might have hospitalised me. I can't quite believe someone so obviously intelligent and female has such ideas about women.

Dd heard The Madonna in the school toilet yesterday She said, she and her friend were in the loo, and from the spare toilet came the Madonna's voice saying "fidati di me" lolol....d'you think I could get a shrine? And pay people to come and look at dd? We could have a statue! (hmm, wonder if there's any money in miracles.......I have a feeling there may well be.......)

TheMysticMasseuse · 25/10/2009 11:12

penthe was very good on the odone thread, i was just wasting one hour's time while having lunch and resting while the dds slept. i didn't find her too bad but actually i didn't even read her paper. i think she's less reactionary than she's made out to be but quite disingenous in that her arguments will be used by horrid reactionary types to keep us in our place.

i think being on my own with the kids is good and totally doable unless one or more of us is sick, which is only a matter of time as we're entering bug-season. i get a bit irritated when my girlfriends treat the news of me being on my own during the week as if i was singlehandedly taking over the taliban in afghanistan or some such heroic gesture. there's people who're on their own all the time, it's no big deal unless you make it.

can you tell i am in a bad mood today

JavierBardem · 25/10/2009 11:14

lol, they heard la madonna? does she hang out in the loo then?

not sure how intelligent odone is, probably well educated and all that, good network of friends, but but but....still, i see that having a sick little brother is inimaginably painful, so i feel for her.

Bucharest · 25/10/2009 11:19

Leaving aside the religion thing- which tbh, is like someone trying to explain to me how fantastic being a Martian is (I just will never be able to get it, no matter how hard I try, spirituality and morals/ethics yet, but organised church, nope) I just get so irritated by the whole "I can do this, so can you" I mean, where she explains that she does her writing when the kids are at school etc....well, I'm ironing at that point, or in the supermarket, or scrubbing the loo out.....or, erm, MNing.....

I do agree that she says stuff just for the effect sometimes.....

Bucharest · 25/10/2009 11:20

yes not yet.....

JavierBardem · 25/10/2009 11:20

Oh, MM, your girlfriends are "interesting" to say the least. Are they mumsnetters? It always strikes me how little empathy women from different classes have for each other...I agree about Odone being disingenusous, again very little understanding of other people's needs, etc. Still she gets to make a living out of her writings, so good for her.

Spent bit of the morning talking to friend who has been made redundant, absolutely in a state. So the Odone thread did not sit well.

Camomilla · 25/10/2009 12:08

oh, DS woke up at 2am with high temp and cough... just had another dose of nurofern as it'd gone back to 38.5...

will have to go look the odone thread later, when I have more time.

lol at the Madonna talking in the loo ...

DemonBradleySlaysPippi · 25/10/2009 13:21

HAPPY BIRTHDAY BUCHAREST!!! You sound 24 to me !

I have a minute before I take the DD to a party. But I had a revelation, in the loo as well so not unlike minibuch apparizione. I am amazed at the million things I can do with the children and for myself when DH is not around. This morning: I read, had a bath , cooked a lamb roast, did letters with bigpippi and made her write birthday cards and wrap pressies, gave them a bath, obviously gave them lunch, laundry. All this this morning! While I soaked in the bath I suddenly realised that US TIME, often not quality time but just sitting together watching crap sunday tv, eats up all my ME time.

Now I need another bath to work out how I can keep this up when DH is here.

(BTW luckily for us I cooked the roast as boat browk down, LOL)

I have suspicion minipippi is hiding chicken pox!

oh, sorry, missed that ! Happy birthday Bucharest!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (hope all those exclamation marks make up for my svista..)

Bucharest · 25/10/2009 14:00

Thank you!
now nicely full of lasagne and lamb...
Pippi- that is sooooooo true about dhs not being around....my friend's husband is a militare in Napoli all week and I so envy how organised her life is with the 2 children.....(hmm, wonder if it's too late to suggest dp go and sign up????)

TheMysticMasseuse · 25/10/2009 14:09

yes Buch, sorry, i had totally meant to tell you happy birthday!!! dahhhhling, you don't sound a day over 19

(and moreover 44 is the new 34, dontcha know)

JavierBardem · 25/10/2009 14:09

lol, agree, we stopped the US time watching telly cause i find it depressing, and have watched enough crap telly to last me a life time. So we live separate lives most evenings after kids are in bed, and meet up for dvd night 2 or 3 times a week. Works for us right now. [ok, i still watch some crap telly, example the doc on KM and her hairdresser, dp would have never watched it though, too beneath him] We do have meals together most evenings with the kids which we like. We are quite grumpy brontoloni needing to be alone type of persons and we like the net and reading, so that's where time at home goes when the kids are in bed.

happy birthday Buch, fancy pretending he is at the partita rather than cooking your birtday meal.

DemonBradleySlaysPippi · 25/10/2009 16:38

Where is Franca, she is going to have it! Ohhhhh, I had such a good day, lots of chores and time with dd...ohhhhhh. Infact dear Damon, you will be proud of me, I showed dd segments of Pippi Calzelunghe from Youtube. I cannot get the tune out of my mind. [happy] I had forgotten how beautiful her little house is. I want to decorate mine like hers.!!

JavierBardem · 25/10/2009 18:17

Oh, my God! I have just read the comments on the DG article. Absolutely horrid! [horrified emoticon] Who is SorciereAnna by the way? A new name for an oldtimer? Anyway I feel soiled after reading the DG...shudder!

Rosa · 25/10/2009 18:18

Bookmarking so I can hopefully find you all later...

JavierBardem · 25/10/2009 18:19

Hello Rosa, was wondering where you where. Whatever you do, do not read the comments on the DG article...Really disgusting. Make NGriffin sound like PeterPan. [scared]

gio71 · 25/10/2009 18:32

Bookmarking as well. Happy birthday Bucharest! Still ill ds here, hospital said on Fri was on mend but will be off probably for another 2 weeks. Still having breathing issues though and not sleeping so very tired ds and Gio here!

gio71 · 25/10/2009 18:35

Am so tired I have just totally repeated myself on my last post, had already told you re hospital. Just ingore me
Franca re new dog.

JavierBardem · 25/10/2009 18:35

Very sorry for miniGio!

DemonBradleySlaysPippi · 25/10/2009 18:39

what's DG?

Gio what did DS have - cough? Minipippi has had it horrendous for a week. Should I take her do you think?

JB minipippi is absolutely obsessed, as much as bigpippi was at that age. Funny as it is not a cartoon. Yes the house is great. And all the things they do. I remember watching it as a child and sooo wanting to be independent and alone like her. Another book I adored was IslandoftheBlueDolphins again about a girl left to fence for herself on an island: I must have pretended to be that girl a million times.
