Where are you????

OP posts:
PippiTheWarGoddess · 03/11/2009 20:57

Sorry SG I have put some italian words on the other thread. forgot where I was.
Yes I guess it is a similar environment.

Do you remember 'Le Pinelle'???? God how much I can LOL when I hear this word. We were obsessed my DB and I.

TheMysticMasseuse · 03/11/2009 21:07

LoL at SG's dh plucking out his eyebrows!

thanks for advice on sf vaccine, will pass on. must say your mw sounds particularly awful. the mws i saw were all a bit scatterbrained but generally sympathetic (although there was one who kept losing my blood samples gggrr)

I too want to spend more time with dh and less time on the PC. problem is, now dh is away during the week i pretty much am on the comp all night, no tv, no books etc. i think i need a detox.

we used to be quite into scrabble, in fact our last ever game was when i was in labour with dd1 to while the time before going to the hospital (i spelled a 7 letter word between contractions, very proud!). we haven't played since

the wire has really been a relationship blessing, really need to do more of that sort of thing, watch stuff together. might try the sopranos next.

well actually what i really want to do is start a blog to mark my change in lifestyle. i know how cliche'. any ideas for how to call it? Lost in Fondue?

Francasaysrelax · 03/11/2009 21:10

Yo!
Have just watched the second episode of The wire. Me and dh are getting addicted!

Glad to hear there are other puzzles lovers. Our flat is too small at the moment for this hobby, I miss our big house in the uk!

SG, great post.
You can have monthly visits from ob/gyn for free in Italy as well, either at hospital or consultorio. Three scans are free, blood tests (every month) and strep b swab are all free (and the visit with anestesista for epidural).
I'd say that the visits are always very accurate, obviously there are some doctors/midwives with better bedside manners than others.
I once panicked when I was at around 6 moths as I kept having BH and went to the Pronto Soccorso of Mangiagalli (Milan's university maternity hospital) and they were absolutely fab (and me and dh laughed at the expense of "l'abbronzato" a young ob/gyn who - we thought- was the typical Santa Margherita type )

I also would like to add that my midwife in the UK was absolutely lovely. And the one who was present at dd's birth was fantastic.

Francasaysrelax · 03/11/2009 21:12

Lost in Fondue, very good

See x posted MM: the Wire is a bonding experience

Francasaysrelax · 03/11/2009 21:13

Games I love:
Il paroliere, Trivial pursuit, Scopone scientifico, Whist and Machiavelli

TheMysticMasseuse · 03/11/2009 21:20

btw strep b test a good example of a test which is apparently rather useless, i tried to get it in my second (private) pregnancy but consultant and mws told me it's very unreliable and leads to a lot of false positives with associated unnecessary medication....

oh enough.

what d'yall think of a LI day off, as a challenge? say, no-one posts on LI for 24 hours. i know many of you can manage perfectly well, but i am getting dangeroulsy addicted...

Sputnik · 03/11/2009 21:25

Lost in Fondue made me smile. Or how about Pane e Cioccolata?

Maybe you could play scrabble online with your DH MM.

Camomilla · 03/11/2009 21:25

evening ladies! so much to catch up, always miss good convos when I'm in the office (I do try to check mn, but don't like it, especailly when the DM is there, she's lovely but I'm sure she'd recognise the big mn logo

SG, very good posts especially about MW. and GPs a part from one. at 5 wks I went as I was bleeding, obviously knew that could be implantation etc but had cramps too so she was "so, what are you here for, your stomac or the bleeding?" both? and MW not very helpful, actually, no, with DS, the surgery "forgot" about me so had nothing a part from routine hosp apt (booking in, 12wk scan and 20 wk scan), so when they found out at the 20 wk scan, as I needed another scan as ds had an enlarged kidney they said not to worry, they;d do my antenatal care, and had good care. with DD, I thought I;d go for surgery MW care as it's down the road. exactly as you described! I suffered terribly for month 2 and 3 with both (hardly any vomiting, but as I'm a talasseamia carrier I was quite anaemic), but the worst was the joint pain/failure with DD. I used to literally crawl on all 4s by evening in the last 2 months, but when mentioned to MW "it's part of being pg"

Rosa, at violet movies!

yes, too much pc. I used to complain to DP, now I'm worst! but it's only cos you're so lovely... we watch tv together, if I don't have the laptop (which it's his fault for getting this little thing, I'd never used the other one on my lap as it's big) we just cuddlee up on the sofa. but we don't go out for lack of trusted babysitters (last time was over a year ago when MIL was here) and we keep on pormising ourselves we should make more of an effort (DS's got more social life than us with all these bloody birthday parties - one on sat, another one on Moday, good in a way as I'd never realised it's inset day, one in 2 wks, one in mid dec )... but never manage. we used to be more romantic, now there doesn;t seem to be time, though we do love each other. we used to play a dice game (no idea the name) or scopa, I'd still do but he can't be bothered. he normally gives in around xmas time for a few weeks

gio, glad ds is well and you don't have to spend so much time at hospital

SuiGeneris · 03/11/2009 21:25

Lost in Fondue sounds good- let us have the link when you start!

Franca: I too love Paroliere- we still play it every evening when on holiday with the Italian family. Does it exist in English? I have found an app on iTunes that is similar in concept, but not as good... Love Macchiavelli too, but again have not played in years.

On Trivial pursuit: it is possible to get an English version that is not focussed on TV/celebrities? We have a particularly bad one where the yellow questions seem to be on who played such and such in Eastenders, rather than on literature.

DH just got home, looking absolutely gorgeous , so off to cook dinner. Goodnight everyone!

Francasaysrelax · 03/11/2009 21:35

Masseuse, I'm not so sure about the strep b. Why are the UK doctors the only ones in Europe with evidence that it is not reliable? Are they the most reasonable, or are they saving money (again) on screening (like they do with smear tests etc?)?
Again, my ob/gyn, who's quite spartana and not ott at all, was shocked when I told her there's no strep b test.

Francasaysrelax · 03/11/2009 21:38

Hello camo!

So, shall we take the LI challenge? No LI for 24 hrs?

PippiTheWarGoddess · 03/11/2009 21:39

Yes LI is addictive because you are so lovely. But it is either chating to you ar dh at times. I can do detox at times, but when you start detoxing it means you are pretty addictive.
Dh calls you my e-friends. Thankfully I, and you, have got lots of RL friends so I am not too worried about addiction. but it affects my reading. Badly.

nive thing to say about your dh SG !

Camomilla · 03/11/2009 21:40

can we have the LI strike on thursday so have less temptation? no, actually, whenI am at home so I get on with the casino, MIL coming on mon and sooooooooo much to do....

Camomilla · 03/11/2009 21:44

lost in fondue gets my vote BTW

Sputnik · 03/11/2009 21:44

What a terrible thought Franca.

Francasaysrelax · 03/11/2009 21:47

I was only taking up masseuse's challenge, I can't stay off LI or even MN for 24 hrs

PippiHasALifeOfRiley · 03/11/2009 21:48

D'ya think my new name is a bit smug???

It is because of the cleaner thread .

Didn;t think the other one was appropriate near Remembrace day either, not on MN for sure.

Sputnik · 03/11/2009 21:51

I liked the war goddess, but I take your point.
Right, I am off to bed, not had enough sleep recently.

PippiHasALifeOfRiley · 03/11/2009 21:54

Oh Sputnik not to worry I'll surely return to it in no time either thanks to DH, SIL, neighbour, children or poor mum coming over soon!

off to bed as well to read this bloody Jane Somers !!

Francasaysrelax · 03/11/2009 21:55

You're not cross with me are you sput?

I get your point pippi, yes.

PippiHasALifeOfRiley · 03/11/2009 21:57

I don't even have a cleaner atm.

anyway I am off to bed.

ciao carissime.

Camomilla · 03/11/2009 22:02

notte, gave myself til 10pm as poor DP getting a bit fed up

Bucharest · 04/11/2009 09:55

Lordy I don't converse with dp.
I get the tv for Grande Fratello and C'e posta and he gets it for all the calcio and political shouting and bawling.

Been for coffee with nice Albanian woman from dd's nursery this morning...she had invited another woman who has an English husband! Here! That was a surprise. (their dd doesn't speak any English )

Franca, do you get the urge to scream "Yes, Luca is effing chav when you lot use it!!"
I do

Although, Lucca would be irrevocably more so

Oops too many smilies....

Sputnik · 04/11/2009 11:15

Buch!
I am giving my first english lesson today, can you send some moral support please!
I am going a bit mad actually looking at all the stuff on the web and trying to make a plan.
I'm sure it'll be ok once I've got going though (hopefully).

Bucharest · 04/11/2009 11:36

It'll be fine!
You'll also find you have about 8 hrs stuff prepared for each hour you need (if you're anything like me!)
Is it the bloke you were talking about? What have you prepared for him?
