Where are you????

OP posts:
Sputnik · 04/11/2009 12:17

Yes, it's the person I know already.
So far I've got a few questions to check how his past and future tenses are, then I've got a couple of pictures to describe. I'll write down what he says and go over it together. Then something for him to read out to check pronunciation. Was thinking about listening comprehension of some kind, and I'm trying to think of some writing to give him, or should I give that to him as homework? At the end we'll play 20 questions if there's time to fill.
Whaddya reckon?

Bucharest · 04/11/2009 12:41

That'll last at least a month!
It's always surprising how long people take to do things- and then if any questions naturally arise out of the grammar checking- tbh, I doubt in an hour you'd get much more done than the Qs and As and the describing pics. I tend to give writing as h/w- for the sole reason that I'm so gobby (no, really ) that I cannot bear a silence void when someone is writing in class and I start chatting and put them off!

Adults tend to like to concentrate on just general conversation I find, so let him do that, asking you Qs and stuff, and then tell him you've spotted a few grammar points he could brush up on (even if you haven't, to make it look like you're earning your money )

Enjoy!

Sputnik · 04/11/2009 12:53

Thanks for the reassurance!

Rosa · 04/11/2009 12:53

Nah sorry no LI strike for me as I need you all just for sanity ..... Mind you its Minirosas birthday domani ...Remember the panic with Brangelina and Sputnik posting every 2 mins as I was in a flap about what to do ? Crikey a year has passed !!!I did lesson2 with the bambini today and it went well how I am going to think up things for a full year I just don't know. MInd you I think we can start on Christmas songs and things soon ....APart from Jingle Bells and We wish you anybody got any other easy ones I could teach 6 yr olds?

Sputnik · 04/11/2009 13:12

Not xmassy, but DD's nursery teacher was telling me how someone came in and did "Heads, shoulders knees and toes", it obviously made a big impression!
Wow was it really a year ago? Well done for surviving!

Bucharest · 04/11/2009 13:46

Oh yes, heads shoulders etc is a sure winner.

Silent night is a good one as they know the tune already.

Little Donkey?

PippiHasALifeOfRiley · 04/11/2009 13:48

At 6 a mother tongue english teacher, who satyed for 2 lessons taught us Ba Ba Blackship and 1 little indian. I loved them and remember them to this day (albeit with some made-up words of my own like "ba ba blackship weny weny wall" ). Also ABCD song goes down well with my italian friends'kids.

PippiHasALifeOfRiley · 04/11/2009 13:50

DD loves head and shoulders. Oh and "wind the Bobbin Up" or "wheels on the bus?" minipippi is obsessed with it.
Silent night definitely!

Bucharest · 04/11/2009 13:54

I just put
esl Christmas worksheets
into google and came up with about a trillion activity sheets to print off- not songs necessarily, but colouring stuff some of which could be adapted for tinies.

Francasaysrelax · 04/11/2009 13:58

, Minirosa is 1 already? Time flies . I remember meeting rosa in rainy venice just a few days before she gave birth . What are you planning for her?

No, I won't go on strike either. Have given some thought, and to be honest, I really enjoy my mn/li time, so I will keep on my bad habits

Bucharest, I'm not a fan of Luca, not when you can use Luke (to honour luke skywalker)

Sput, good luck with the lesson, let us know how it goes!

Francasaysrelax · 04/11/2009 14:00

Ba ba black sheep another firm fav here too. And dd also loved 1,2,3,4,5 once I cought a fish alive and Miss Polly had a dolly (and she used to have this lovely english accent )

PippiHasALifeOfRiley · 04/11/2009 16:10

Oh yes forgot earlier ROSA CANNOT BEELIEVE IT IS A YEAR!!!!
It was great being pg all at the same time, you, JB and me! Hope to be able to meet you soon too and your lovely DDs.

Camomilla · 04/11/2009 16:43

another 1st birthday! yes, time just flies..... another vote for head shoulder knees and toes and wind the bobin up and the wheels on the bus, all much loved here

feeling rubbish, woke up with stomach cramps, so had no b-fast or lunch, then got really cold going to pick DS upa so now after 2 cups of tea and half a pack of macine I'm starting to feel human again. DD's weirdly still off her food, a part from milk and half a banana, all she wants it's biscuits!! she's been such a good eater, hope it's just her cold........

feeling very tired and bored but can't breing myself to do much, also because DD (who's just waking up ) is a bit clingy

back later.......

Francasaysrelax · 04/11/2009 16:53

Oh poor Camo . I feel a bit rubbish too, nothing major... a bit of nausea here and there... I'm very tired... boh, I wonder if you can have really mild cases of SF. Maybe I'm just bored!

My dc are still under the weather. No temperature, bot totally distrutti.

PippiHasALifeOfRiley · 04/11/2009 17:02

Franca I meant to say this for ages: poor you stuck in the house for so long!!!! I am impressed on the way you kept your sanity!
I felt the same a couple of days and then nothing happened. boh.

Camomilla · 04/11/2009 17:07

DS was distrutto for a few days after the temp went, even though he had 12 hrs sleep. he's still a bit distrutto, hopefully early night tonight. you can have mild SF, franca, that's why it's so difficult to know for certain without a test. I really hope what we had was SF (which I'm more inclined on the yes than no), especially as I still have the terrible cough - 3wks FFS!! actually, you know when you have a bad cough and you get muscle pains like when you do sit ups, do you think it has the same benefits as sit up? that'd be worth going through this stupid cough

need to let DS's friend's mum if he's going to the b-day party on Monday, but it'd mean driving to wimbledon/colliers wood - not far, but very busy place traffic wise and though know the area very well, I've never driven there alone, but DP'll be in victoria picking MIL up...

Francasaysrelax · 04/11/2009 17:27

Pippi, I'm not really keeping my sanity, despite the fact that my mother and my aunt visit us (this morning I managed to evade from 9.30 to 12.30). But I find my patience is wearing thin now. Yesterday I shouted at them and was really cross, for constant bad behaviour.
Until last week I was very happy of my dc's behaviour, happy, lively and kind. They have turned into monsters.

Sorry for the rant, but I'm getting pissed off as I write

Francasaysrelax · 04/11/2009 17:30

I understand they are shattered and bored, but they aren't my usually lovely dc.

PippiHasALifeOfRiley · 04/11/2009 18:50

I'd have lost it a lot earlier. You are doing great!!

Night out for me tonight , do not have interesting convos.

Francasaysrelax · 04/11/2009 18:57

. where are you going?

Sputnik · 04/11/2009 20:51

Yoy have done brilliantly Franca. They are probably suffering from cabin fever, I know my DD is always obnoxious if she is a bit ill, but not enough to be flat out.

Buch you were right about my lesson plan, we didn't even get to my fist question as he had brought stuff with him he wanted to do, so anyway it went fine.

Francasaysrelax · 04/11/2009 20:57

Sputnik, glad the lesson went well! Did you enjoyed it?

Yes, your dd sounds like my dc . I think I'm being over cautious on this. But the pediatrician, who is usually uncharacteristically spartan, advised me to wait as much as possible before sending them back to RL, which made me think.

Sputnik · 04/11/2009 21:05

Actually it was ok. I really need to learn all the grammar though as I never learnt it formally so have no clue what future perfect conditional is, or whatever. Plus a couple of other thins I could not explain other than say well it just sounds right.

Maybe you'd better keep them off school til monday at this point, but take them out for a bit of an airing?

Francasaysrelax · 04/11/2009 21:11

at it sounds right. I do that too .

I was thinking of sending them on friday, as they can both have a short day on friday (ds finishes at 13.30). ANd then hopefully we can go to the countryside for the weekend, so they can play in the fresh and clean (ish) air. Boh!

They have watched lots of tv, which doesn't help, really. But we watched Pingu this afternoon after ages, and they loved it!

TantiK · 04/11/2009 21:46

Evening all, sorry for the lack of contact recently (i.e. since DD was born 7 months ago!) but you know how life is, and I am sure I would become addicted to MN if I let myself. I have been lurking though! Sorry you have all been unwell - same situation here, colds and coughs all around. Luckily DD wasn't affected too badly but DS got earache and was sent home from scuola materna. He seems to get sent home quite alot with illness...is it just me being too English and sending him in regardless??

Well done sputnik for your first EFL lesson - I've just finished an online course which was really good, give me a shout if you are interested in doing it as I think I can recommend a friend and I get some kind of goodie ;-) The company is i-to-i if you wanted to look it up - feel free to contact me for more info. I would really like to start teaching but a bit tricky with the baby these days - there isn't an Asilo Nido around here, and my MIL is also an english teacher around here so I would feel bad asking her to babysit for me to teach. She tries not to interfere with us, but by doing that I feel bad asking her to babysit! No-win situation! Anyway - I'll try not to lurk so much and will pop in to 'see' you all every now and then. xx
