Hi, hope you find this thread. The old one was too big.
Varifocals eh? Not sure I'd fancy that.
DP took me out to lunch today, to The Ivy. Twas really nice, good food and service, great decor, lovely stained glass windows. I only saw one sleb - Trisha Goddard with (I presume) her daughter.
I had seared scallops with bacon, followed by the rib-eye with chips and creamed spinach (with too much nutmeg in it).
It's been a funny old week. The house is a tip because I've hardly been in it (except to catch up on sleep). We're off on holiday on Saturday morning and I've organised nothing. Gulp!

Whooo hooo ???

Who hoo?

oooooooooh

Berrie · 08/02/2010 07:57

Bloody arseing work again today. Back has been killing me since Friday.
What are you two up to?

MattBellamysMuse · 08/02/2010 17:10

Tidying. Serious tidying. Our bedroom was a complete tip with piles of dirty clothes waiting to be washed etc. Did several loads of washing so there's only one (rather large) pile left. I'll tackle it tomorrow.
I spent the last two nights searching online for holidays without too much success. I'll hit it again tonight till I find something perfect.
Did you both have good weekends? Ds1 dragged us to Richmond Park on Sat to take photos of deer with the camera he got for christmas. We found two herds of red deer and a huge herd of fallow deer so he's taken at least a million pictures. I might have to sneakily delete some

Berrie · 08/02/2010 17:28

Yes, our weekend was nice and relaxing thanks. We went out for a chinese buffet on Sunday. They are never as nice as you think they will be. I reckon in five more years we will have forgotton enough to try it again.
We set up a rat cam to watch the rat holes. Dh only shot two. He reckons he's wiped them out but I think that is highly unlikely.

Your deer spotting sounds cold! Brrrrr!

MattBellamysMuse · 08/02/2010 18:45

Dammit! I thought I'd found the ideal hotel but then looked at the reviews on TripAdvisor - . Some good ones but lots of bad ones too. This has put me off. Back to the drawing board...

MattBellamysMuse · 08/02/2010 18:46

I know what you mean about Chinese buffets - the dishes are limited and never top quality.

Berrie · 09/02/2010 07:40

..and cold

Where are you looking?

MattBellamysMuse · 09/02/2010 09:41

Trying to decide between Egypt and Crete.
Crete would be less hot but the kind of hotels we would want to stay in are beyond our budget.
Egypt would be boiling but we could get a luxury hotel and glorious beaches, all inclusive, within budget.
Maybe I should look at some other destinations but I'm not sure where.
We decided on a hotel this year instead of a villa because it would be nice for a change not to have to cook and clean at all for two weeks and have all our meals included in the price.
I'm off to the travel agents now to pick up a stack of brochures.
What are you up to today?

Berrie · 09/02/2010 10:31

Don't know much about Egypt except that my BIL's family all got food poisoning there last year.
I know what you mean about being catered for.
I can't seem to summon up any enthusiasm for holidays this year. I think it is because I was in such pain on each holiday last year. I think we'll do a bit of camping in this country. I fancy the New Forest - you go there don't you? We need to try not to blow so much money on holidays this year.

Today I have cleaned the fridge - by God it needed it and at lunchtime I need to go over to FIL's. Apparently his care services are coming over to assess him. We think they are going to say he is too frail for them to care for anymore and we'll have to find a home.

ghostofoggs · 09/02/2010 12:23

Hotel in Egypt

I've spent the past few days wrangling with the PC. I think we've made the decision to bin it. I've just about managed to keep it running long enough to transfer most of the files off it, but I've had to ditch all the films I had stored on it .
Ah well.
Now I need to find out how to clear everything of it so nobody can recover anything, although I suppose hitting all the gubbins with a hammer, very hard, will do the same job

So much for me having my own laptop

ghostofoggs · 09/02/2010 12:26

Good luck for this afternoon Berrie.

Hope you manage to get something sorted for fil.

Berrie · 09/02/2010 13:39

Pffft!
Spent ages trying to persuade him to have a commode. He wasn't having any of it but has agreed for them to deliver one to store in the utility room until we can persuade him it's either that or a home/hospital when he next falls.

Berrie · 09/02/2010 13:40

I can send you films. Tell me what youn want.

Berrie · 09/02/2010 13:45

Might go to Ikea for tea to cheer us up!

MattBellamysMuse · 09/02/2010 13:56

Do you have one nearby? I'd love to just pop in for tea but our nearest is an hour away.
Well I went to the travel agent. She managed to persuade me that Egypt would be way too hot in summer for the boys (around 40c) and she suggested Turkey, where your £ goes a bit further than Crete. So that's what I'll be searching for tonight.
A friend of DP's got food poisoning in Egypt last year too so another reason to avoid
We went to the New Forest just for a weekend last year and it was lovely. We stayed near Lyndhurst I think. When we were out walking in the bit that I think is a National Park they had some gorgeous looking campsites. I imagine they get booked up early though.

MattBellamysMuse · 09/02/2010 13:57

I got the gas bill this morning
It wasn't as bad as I'd expected considering we had the heating on day and night for about six weeks.

MattBellamysMuse · 09/02/2010 20:08

FGS, another one I was on the verge of booking (in Turkey) has even worse reviews that the other ones. Basins falling off walls, electric shocks from light fittings, food that's cold and undercooked, one woman being hospitalised with food poisoning, Russians everywhere, rude staff. I could go on.
Back to the drawing board (again).

Berrie · 09/02/2010 20:08

I was looking at Turkey too yesterday but still too expensive for us.
Ikea is about 20 minutes away if the motorway is not too busy. Managed to spend £60 though which is not as bad as you but then we are not redecorating.
I bought a shopping trolley to save my back lugging my school stuff around. I got some mugs and some bowls, some scissors and some daffodils. A bedside light for Ds and a cat puppet for dd. Dh bought two oven gloves.
I had meatballs, dd had pasta and the blokes had fish.
Going to watch the new Lost now.

ghostofoggs · 09/02/2010 20:57

I'm totally lost with Lost I can't remember where I got up to.

ghostofoggs · 09/02/2010 20:59

Pc is now dead, deceased and done for. I've removed all three hard drives and the two memory cards and will be binning the carcass.

Bloody lucky we got the laptop and I managed to save most of the files.

MattBellamysMuse · 09/02/2010 21:12

RIP PC.

Berrie · 10/02/2010 07:34

Dh loves Lost but I am totally ...er lost with it all. It was a double episode too so it went on a bit!

Poor old PC Oggs!

MattBellamysMuse · 10/02/2010 09:06

I used to love Lost too but I kept forgetting to watch it last season and now I'm a whole season behind.
Same with Desperate Housewives. I'll have to have a catch up session soon.

Berrie · 10/02/2010 10:44

Yikes have booked a Tesco order within a time slot where I have to get dd from Pre school. I did that last week too! Hope it comes before. I had to leave a note on the door last week but they didn't come until I got back.

MattBellamysMuse · 10/02/2010 11:34

I find I can wait in all day for something to arrive and it always comes in the 10 minutes I'm out of the house picking up the boys. But that's just my luck. A note should be fine if you can be back quickly.
What's the weather like where you are? It's snowing here again, quite heavily. It snowed on Monday too but it only settles for a couple of hours.
