Hi, hope you find this thread. The old one was too big.
Varifocals eh? Not sure I'd fancy that.
DP took me out to lunch today, to The Ivy. Twas really nice, good food and service, great decor, lovely stained glass windows. I only saw one sleb - Trisha Goddard with (I presume) her daughter.
I had seared scallops with bacon, followed by the rib-eye with chips and creamed spinach (with too much nutmeg in it).
It's been a funny old week. The house is a tip because I've hardly been in it (except to catch up on sleep). We're off on holiday on Saturday morning and I've organised nothing. Gulp!

Swoosh it came!

It's cold, a few flakes this morning and I mean a few.

Spose I'd better go and get DD now. Feeling crap today, an afternoon of 'talky friendly' is sure to make me feel better. I really ought to go and get my LFT done today but can't be bothered. I'm at the hospital for physio the week after next, I'll do it then.

MattBellamysMuse · 10/02/2010 13:43

Ours has stopped too.
Has DD not grown out of talky friendly yet? I don't envy you

ghostofoggs · 10/02/2010 14:16

'Tis bloody cold here too. Lovely and sunny with bright blue skies but freezing.

Dd's 10th Birthday today . 10!! How did that happen?????

MattBellamysMuse · 10/02/2010 14:53

10?! How did that happen. she only turned 9 5 minutes ago.
Wish her happy birthday from me. Anything special planned?

Berrie · 10/02/2010 15:34

Happy Birthday mini Oggs!

Berrie · 10/02/2010 15:35

I was fantasising about an ensuite the other day with a lock on the door and no talky friendly bloody dinosaurs in the damn bath!

Berrie · 11/02/2010 07:50

Morning.

How's things?
I have a meeting this morning then I really ought to have my blood test. I have a pile of ironing to do. How exciting!

ghostofoggs · 11/02/2010 19:31

Did you go for the blood test Berrie?

We didn't do anything special yesterday Lyra. Dd chose what we had for tea - fillet steak with chips, then cream cake.
She only opened a couple of presents in the morning before school and when she got back from school she went out driving with dh and Billie (horse) so didn't open her presents until after tea.
We spent the evening watching Time Team.
Today she had her very first piano lesson and played Beethoven's Ode to Joy.

MattBellamysMuse · 11/02/2010 21:41

Wow, she learns fast

MattBellamysMuse · 11/02/2010 23:33

Holiday booked at last!
We've got two weeks all inclusive in the Dominican Republic in August. The boys will miss the first few days of the new school year but that's not the end of the world.
Now I can't wait but there's months and months to wait.
Oh feck, I just realised I'm supposed to be seeing Muse in Manchester on Sept 4th. Bugger bugger bugger. Now I'm

Berrie · 12/02/2010 08:36

Yep, I had my blood test.
Dh spent the evening in A&E with his Dad last night again. This morning his lift for work didn't turn up (DH's car having work done) so we had to get dressed quick and take him (50 minute round trip.) Just back in time for some toast before school ( for all of us) Thank God for half term!

Wow, from Egypt to the Carribean! That's a long wait though.
Do you have a piano Oggs?

ghostofoggs · 12/02/2010 08:53

Oh dear Lyra. Oops! Can you sell them on?

In my first piano lesson we tapped middle c repeatedly chanting "I am C, middle C, left hand, right hand, middle C".
Dd has done Ode to Joy using both hands

No. We don't have a piano . A friend has given us a small keyboard for her to use to start with. We want to see if she takes to it first without any further outlay in addition to the lessons and the books.

The problem with keyboards is that they don't have as many keys as a piano, and the keys themselves are smaller, making it more difficult to get the finger placement right.

The problem with a digital piano is that they cost hndreds of £'s.

The problem with an actual piano is that we live in a caravan . I didn't even think the floor would take the weight.

Thought about it last night though and I reckon my sideboard full of books etc probably weighs as much as a piano, and if we could get that in through the door then we could get an upright in too.

God knows where it would go though, or where we'd get one from.

Annoying thing is that a couple of months ago our village hall got rid of their old piano. Gave it away. Just didn't think at the time that it was a possibility.

MattBellamysMuse · 12/02/2010 10:06

I told the boys about the holiday and they're very excited. They want to go swimming with dolphins and on a cable car.
I can probably sell the tickets on ebay for a profit and I'll still see them at Wembley the following week.

ghostofoggs · 12/02/2010 10:20

It sounds fantastic Lyra! Roll on August

Berrie · 12/02/2010 12:01

We've been looking at pianos on e-bay. They go for next to nothing. Have you a horse box? If you could collect it you'd just have to pay for the tuning then.

MattBellamysMuse · 12/02/2010 18:39

We got ours on eBay for £41. We then had to pay a piano mover £75 to deliver it but still not too expensive over all. I have yet to organise lessons for the boys.

ghostofoggs · 13/02/2010 09:13

What did it cost to have it tuned Lyra?

Berrie · 13/02/2010 11:01

It's about £30 here Oggs though someone I know paid £50.

ghostofoggs · 13/02/2010 14:49

I reckon it would cost more to get somebody to come out to us... if they even would

We do have a horsebox though so wouldn't have to pay for delivery.

MattBellamysMuse · 13/02/2010 17:03

We haven't had it tuned yet
But as I said nobody plays it yet.
I've just taken DS1 to see Avatar. OMG what a bloody fantastic film! It's one of the best I've ever seen. The plot's fairly simple and basic but it's visually absolutely stunning, esp as it's in 3D. You must go and see it while it's in the cinema. It's the sort of film that has to be watched on the big screen or not at all.
DP and DS2 watched something else as I didn't think he was old enough for Avatar (and it's nearly 3 hours long).

ghostofoggs · 13/02/2010 17:08

We don't get 3d in our local (20 odd miles away) cinema. I'd probably have to travel upwards of 50 miles to get to one that showed it in 3d, so won't be seeing it unfortunately .

What is it about? I don't really know anything about it.

ghostofoggs · 13/02/2010 17:09

What did DP and other ds see?

MattBellamysMuse · 13/02/2010 17:33

It's well worth seeing in 2D if your 'local' cinema is showing it. Really, don't miss it on the big screen. I'll post a trailer (can you watch trailers or is your connection too slow?)
DP and DS2 saw Percy Jackson and the something or other. They said it was good.

Berrie · 13/02/2010 18:07

We'd like to see it. Must try and find a sitter.

Berrie · 15/02/2010 14:46

Lordy, fed up of half term now. Roll on next week...
