Hi, hope you find this thread. The old one was too big.
Varifocals eh? Not sure I'd fancy that.
DP took me out to lunch today, to The Ivy. Twas really nice, good food and service, great decor, lovely stained glass windows. I only saw one sleb - Trisha Goddard with (I presume) her daughter.
I had seared scallops with bacon, followed by the rib-eye with chips and creamed spinach (with too much nutmeg in it).
It's been a funny old week. The house is a tip because I've hardly been in it (except to catch up on sleep). We're off on holiday on Saturday morning and I've organised nothing. Gulp!

We did but it was bloody freezing. Took the dc to Borough Market, out for dinner and the British Museum the next day. DS2 was a bit :-S over the egyptian mummies.
Can't chat - I'm compiling question for a local quiz night. I've got the music, food and drink and local history rounds.

Berrie · 11/01/2010 21:30

You social butterfly you!
Glad you had fun!

MattBellamysMuse · 11/01/2010 21:42

Music and food done. Local history (boring) to do.

Berrie · 12/01/2010 11:34

Morning!

What's going on today?

oggsfrog · 12/01/2010 12:46

Learning about the 5 K's in Sikhism, drawing birds and writing instructions. Perhaps a soupcon of maths later

Windy and sort of sleety. Snow is wet and mushy. Very cold.

You?

MattBellamysMuse · 12/01/2010 18:19

Spent the day restarting the DIY regime. Almost finished the upstairs loo (separate from the bathroom). Another coat of paint, fit light fitting, put up shelf and loo roll holder and mirror. Just got to paint the inside of the door and the floor and then I'm done.

MattBellamysMuse · 12/01/2010 18:20

Snow wet and slushy here too. Might be gone by the end of the week.

MattBellamysMuse · 13/01/2010 08:27

Spoke too soon. Huge amounts of snow overnight. It's like a winter wonderland! And school is open.

Berrie · 13/01/2010 11:18

Boooooo
Snowing here too but only lightly.
Well done on the DIY. We've bought some paint!

Berrie · 13/01/2010 11:29

Been to work this morning and had a meeting.

I boo hood at the physio yesterday and so she didn't do anything with me physically and I had some pulsed short wave something or other.

I went to my first meditation class. I'm not really sure about the extra stuff, talk of auras, angel cards and passing energy around the circle (to me as it happens!)We'll see, I've paid for it now!

Berrie · 13/01/2010 12:25

Oh yeah and we've got no water today. There has been a big leak in the road so they've turned us off. I feel like Oggs.

Berrie · 13/01/2010 15:49

Ok so the water has come back on while we were out fetching ds from school. However the taps were left on and the plug was in upstairs for washing hands after using the loo. The bathroom was flooded and when I got back downstairs it was coming trough the ceiling. I drilled some holes so that it didn't bring the plaster down and it is currnetly pouring out of my holes into various pans. Sigh...

Berrie · 13/01/2010 15:55

...feeling a bit pissed off.

MattBellamysMuse · 13/01/2010 18:56

Oh dear Berrie. How is it now?
I'm freezing and exhausted, not sure why. I spent the afternoon sweating buckets over a difficult light fitting. I hate doing electrics. Early night tonight I think.

Berrie · 13/01/2010 19:08

Electrics is Dh's job - except when it comes to drilling into a dripping ceiling willy nilly. Dh told me it would all trip out if I hit a wire - oh that's ok then!

All is almost back to normal. Don't know if it will be an insurance job yet. The floor is chipboard so we need to see if it dries out. We are planning to do a big redecorate anyway so the holes in the ceiling don't matter.

The physio said I'd got to lower my standards housework wise and start to live a differnt way from now on. Oh how I chortled inside!

MattBellamysMuse · 13/01/2010 20:24

No more immaculate house then?
The goddamn light is all wrong. I've discovered the switch in DS1's room also switches on the bathroom light, both on half power so really dim. And if the bathroom light is already on DS1's doesn't come on at all.
Groan. I'll have to take it down and do it again.

MattBellamysMuse · 13/01/2010 20:45

Looking online but I can't figure it out. There are three black wires, two twisted together and one on its own. I connected the one on its own to live and the other two to neutral. I'm sure this is right so why is it not working properly?
Could you ask your DH Berrie? Mine is useless at electrics so it's not worth asking him.

oggsfrog · 13/01/2010 22:56

Oh! (((hugs))) to both of you.

Dd been on here all day and dh all night. I don't like having to share my laptop

Lyra, dh says 'All that goes on with a switch is that it just breaks the live wire. The one black wire is probably a live wire and the two going out will be going to each light', but then again we're not sure which wires you are talking about .

Berrie, , how is the ceiling looking now? Heed the advice of the physio.

Have had shenanigans here today with neighbour trying to get out but simply polishing the ice to ultra-slippiness, cars in ditches, husbands going arse-over-tit, inebriated 80 year olds, and dogs hiding dead birds and shrews in it's bed.

Berrie · 14/01/2010 07:43

Morning.
Will ring Dh in a bit. He might know, he rewired our first house.

Ho ho ho Oggs, there is no room for my standards to go much lower!
The ceiling no longer drips.

No work today but I need to do some preparation. Tea with a friend this morning then I'd better do something about the living room. before Christmas I got arsed off with all the toys with pieces jumbled up broken and missing. I bundled the lot into 6 binliners. Yesterday I emptied them all and sorted it all out for throwing away, giving away and keeping(God knows where) Anyway the floor is covered with beads, jigsaw pieces, lego. bits of I don't know what. So that needs to be done. Better do a Tesco order too.

Berrie · 14/01/2010 08:30

DH says it's not wired up in a standard way. He thinks there should be more wires. Did it work in the way that you wanted before you changed it?
He asked me to e-mail him the text so he can think about it I'm taking ds to school now so I'll be back later.

Berrie · 14/01/2010 08:59

Dh says sorry, he would need to put his meter on it to figure it out.

MattBellamysMuse · 14/01/2010 14:06

There are more wires, three reds which are sealed up with tape. The instructions said not to connect any reds anyway. It's always worked fine before. From looking online it may just be that one of the two twisted black wires isn't connected properly. It was a bit of a job getting them both in the little hole while holding up the heavy light fitting at the same time.

MattBellamysMuse · 14/01/2010 14:07

Thanks anyway to both DHs.

MattBellamysMuse · 14/01/2010 14:15

Check this out ladies. It was filmed in Lisbon but essentially the same as the one I went to.

MattBellamysMuse · 14/01/2010 20:04

Madrid even.
I am freezing my ass off waiting to buy tickets to see Vampire Weekend in a tiny venue in my home town. Been here an hour already. Was sold out but there are 100 tickets on the door and there are only 10 in front of me so should be ok. Brrrrr!
