Hi, hope you find this thread. The old one was too big.
Varifocals eh? Not sure I'd fancy that.
DP took me out to lunch today, to The Ivy. Twas really nice, good food and service, great decor, lovely stained glass windows. I only saw one sleb - Trisha Goddard with (I presume) her daughter.
I had seared scallops with bacon, followed by the rib-eye with chips and creamed spinach (with too much nutmeg in it).
It's been a funny old week. The house is a tip because I've hardly been in it (except to catch up on sleep). We're off on holiday on Saturday morning and I've organised nothing. Gulp!

OP posts:
MattBellamysMuse · 06/01/2010 14:51

Its been snowing all day here but it's quite wet so it'll be slush in no time.
I've just sat down after spending the entire day cleaning and tidying and putting away the Christmas decorations. Phew! We've got people coming round after school so that gave me the motivation to get on with it.
I had an audiobook of The Kite Runner for company. Good book. I've just discovered audiobooks and they're wonderful - I can get on with stuff and read at the same time.

Berrie · 06/01/2010 14:52

Do you use and Ipod?
I enjoyed Kite Runner.

MattBellamysMuse · 06/01/2010 14:52

No sign of a thaw then Oggs?

MattBellamysMuse · 06/01/2010 14:54

Yes, downloaded it in about 2 minutes and put it on the iPod. Brilliant.
What I don't understand is why it takes only 2.5 hours or so to listen to a book but much longer to read one.

Berrie · 06/01/2010 16:09

I can't believe it, they've closed school tomorrow in case the roads are too icy with frozen slush.

MattBellamysMuse · 06/01/2010 17:38

Our school closed tomorrow too. I'm quite glad because the snow is 3-4 inches deep now (and it's still snowing) so they can go out and make a snowman.

Berrie · 06/01/2010 19:02

La la la la Laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

Not.
Listening.

MattBellamysMuse · 06/01/2010 19:36

Sorry. This is supposed to last a week. Surely you'll get your share.

oggsfrog · 06/01/2010 20:04

Fed up with it now.
Fed up with it now.
Fed up with it now.
Fed up with it now.
Fed up with it now.

Have ordered coal delivery for Monday. They will deliver just off the main road (4 miles away).
Dh and a friend will walk one of the ponies over the hill and drag the coal back, a couple of bags at a time.

He can't wait . He even asked me where the hip flask was so he could take a nip with him .

MattBellamysMuse · 06/01/2010 20:06

Do you have enough food left? Has DD got school work to get on with? She must be bored rigid by now.

Berrie · 06/01/2010 22:04

Just like thut old days!

Can you not get someone to drop you some supplies in the ditch at the same time?

Berrie · 07/01/2010 07:41

Morning!
On to my fourth day of withdrawal headaches today. Dh isn't having any and he drank loads more than me!

What time is dh setting off Oggs? How long will it take do you think?

oggsfrog · 07/01/2010 08:13

Morning

Well done Berrie. Stick with it - you are a shining example. Wish I could get my act together

Coal delivery not until Monday. There was a rumour yesterday that the council had gritted the furthest part of the track on the other side of the hill, so I think neighbour and dh might trundle off to investigate in neighbour's car today.

We aren't actually short of supplies, although chicken food and straw will be running low in the next few days.

Dh ferried water for a few hours yesterday and we managed a hot but very shallow bath. Yay!

Lyra, dd is bored, and I'm tearing my hair out with trying to amuse her. It wouldn't be so bad if we had tv.
The school said to practise mental maths with her and polish up times tables. I'm hoping they will be able to email some work for her.

Berrie · 07/01/2010 08:34

Practise times tables? Is that the best they could come up with?

I can set her some work if you like?
Does she go on educational websites?

Berrie · 07/01/2010 15:08

......tumblesnowball.....

oggsfrog · 07/01/2010 15:26

Hello

Head Teacher sent some stuff through so dd has been busy making a powerpoint presentation on Tsunamis for most of the day
She has also written a small item on being stranded that will be published in the local gazette

Ominous rumblings from on the hill so dh and dd have gone to investigate.... could it be a snowplough??

MattBellamysMuse · 07/01/2010 16:18

Oh good, DD has something to do at last.
We went out to build a snowman this afternoon but the snow is crumbly and icy and won't stick together. We can't even make a snowball with it.
I'm guessing this means there's no sign of a thaw on the way.
Don't know yet if school is open tomorrow. The pavements are all covered in solid ice and some of the roads too.
Karate classes still on though so I'll be off to take DS1 in a minute. DS2 is at his first class now. He looked so sweet in his tiny white kit.

Berrie · 07/01/2010 16:19

Ooooo that would be good! About time too!

MattBellamysMuse · 07/01/2010 16:22

School closed tomorrow.

Berrie · 07/01/2010 16:36

The school I am due to work at tomorrow has been open today. The main roads are fine. Can't seem to find anything out about DD's preschool or Ds's school. Won't know until last minute then I suppose whether I start back tomorrow.

Any news Oggs?

MattBellamysMuse · 07/01/2010 16:56

Do they not have websites?

Berrie · 07/01/2010 18:40

Yes I've been checking all day. They finally have a message up on the school one and are expecting to be open. Don't know about Pre School though.

MattBellamysMuse · 07/01/2010 21:56

I don't think our school should have closed. They should be open for those who can safely get there, which is nearly everybody since the catchment area is so small.
I reckon the staff just fancied a day off.

Berrie · 08/01/2010 07:47

I think it's ridiculous. It's the individual teachers call whether it's safe to drive, not the Headteachers. If they can't get there and there is a teacher or two down, you stick the classes together in front of a dvd. Non teaching staff usually live locally and can help supervise bigger classes.
