Number 13?

OP posts:
ZebsRoomofHerOwn · 14/06/2009 10:49

They did. They tied me to a chair and forced it down me.

Re ipods. I got a '3rd generation' ipod off ebay, which cost just under £50, but you can probably get one cheaper. They're 4gb, which holds 1000 or 2000 songs (can't remember), but they've been superceded by the next generation, so you should be able to get one second hand. I've copied all my cds onto it, which is pretty cool.

My mac is a MacBook Air which I understand inspires lust in many a hear! Now I just need to sort out the sync thing!

Lyra, is DH ok or now feeling awful? My ex-DH is off to Guys on Wednesday for tests on his heart. They'll operate once they get the medication right, but at least they've identified the problem (arrythsomething) and it's fixable.

oggsfrog · 14/06/2009 12:24

Arrhythmia - irregular heartbeat.
Bil has this and is treated with medication. It can be very scary.
I've had it on a couple of occasions - a funny fluttering in my throat and breathing disruption.
My mum had it and had to have ECT to shock her heart back into the correct rhythm.
Hope it all goes well for him.

Is dh feeling any better Lyra?

I've downloaded itunes and it has converted all the music I had stored on the pc. Just need to decide what to get.
I'm always wary about buying 2nd hand on ebay or amazon. I'll have to have a look what's available.
Will probably just end up with a shuffle though.

LyraSilvertongue · 14/06/2009 21:00

I bought my iPod (the one I killed by dropping it in the sea) on eBay and it was fine.
DP (your last two post have us married off ) is much better today after a long sleep and is planning to go back to work tomorrow, the idiot. If it was me I'd have at least a week off.
I'm starting to suspect that I've had this arrhythmia thing. Can it just come on suddenly and then go again really quickly? occasionally I get the fluttering in my throat, which feels like it's coming from my chest, and it makes me cough, but not like a real cough IYSWIM. It's quite alarming but it never lasts.

oggsfrog · 14/06/2009 21:15

Oops. Sorry Lyra

I think everyone form time to time can have a little flutter when their heart can miss a beat or speed up briefly, but it passes.
The problem is when the irregular beat is a long term thing. Depends also on what has caused it.

Lyra do you use peerguardian 2?
I saw it mentioned somewhere as a useful thing to have if you regularly download bittorrenty things.
I want to try to get the Twilight soundtrack and found it on mininova.org. Is that one you use?
What bittorrent client do you use? It was saying I needed Vuze to be able to download it...

ZebsRoomofHerOwn · 15/06/2009 08:11

Sorry Lyra , won't happen again!

Saw DH yesterday for DS's birthday 'party'. I think he's terrified and can't wait for the op. He's refusing to have it done in Cornwall, and I can't say I blame him - even my mum thinks medical care down here is diabolical and thinks he should have it done at Guys - and she hates him!!!

Re music downloads. Someone from work has downloaded Spotify (Sportify?) onto my puter. I haven't tried it yet but she swears it's both free AND legal.

Right. Back to work.....

oggsfrog · 15/06/2009 08:55

Happy Birthday to small Zeb child! Was it his 5th?

I've heard of Spotify.
You have to receive an invitation token to access it (hint. hint. nudge. nudge.).
It is free and you can listen with virtually no streaming but you cannot download the music at all, only listen to it as you request it, so no use for MP3 players.

Has dh got any dates Zeb?

How's DP Lyra ? Has he gone in?

oggsfrog · 15/06/2009 10:34

AArgh! I've spelled Dh's name wrong on DD's passport application so I need to do a 60 mile round trip to go and get a new sodding application form.
Then I'll have to bring it home to get it countersigned by my neighbour, then take it all the way back again to be checked.
Fuck. Fuck. Fuck.

LyraSilvertongue · 15/06/2009 11:59

Can't you cross it out and write it again? Really Oggs, you should be able to spelll you own husband's name after all these years

ZebsRoomofHerOwn · 15/06/2009 13:08

She probably spelt it Robert Pattinson by mistake.

LyraSilvertongue · 15/06/2009 13:11

Lol Zeb

oggsfrog · 15/06/2009 14:40

I phoned to check and no you can't cross it out, you need to fill in a new application form .
Just got back. Was actually closer to 70 miles round trip . I did get a spare this time just in case .

So who do you use to download music from Lyra. I'm figuring that I can start downloading now. No need to wait until I get a player. At least I can listen to it at home.

LyraSilvertongue · 15/06/2009 14:46

Limewire. A friend tried to use them but I think now you have to pay a fee. Google it.

oggsfrog · 15/06/2009 15:23

I'm just downloading the basic version which is free. You have to pay for the Pro version.
I'm going to load Peerguardian 2 too.

LyraSilvertongue · 15/06/2009 16:12

My problem is my mac is not compatible with most of the torrent sites.
I could use my work laptop but it dosn't have a CD burner so getting music from it to my ipod is pretty impossible.

oggsfrog · 15/06/2009 17:45

I'm downloading the Twilight soundtrack now. It has estimated that it will take 3-4 days

oggsfrog · 15/06/2009 17:58

Do you have to burn to a cd to get it on your ipod? Doesn't it just plug into the usb port and get them that way?

LyraSilvertongue · 15/06/2009 18:08

With an iPod, it will only synch with iTunes on one computer. That's the mac, where I have the majority of my music. I downloaded the Twilight soundtrack on to he work laptop and tried to get it onto my mac, but it wouldn't let me. If I'd synched with iTunes on that computer, it would have wiped everythin else off the iPod and left me with just the Twilight soundstrack. Does that make sense?
The obvious solution would have been to burn it to a disk, load it onto the mac and then synch the ipod with the mac (vis USB) but as there's no DVD writer on the work laptop, it was impossible.

LyraSilvertongue · 15/06/2009 18:18

via USB and CD writer, not DVD writer. My brain's fried after a long day at work (which isn't over yet - I finish at 7).

oggsfrog · 15/06/2009 19:05

Hmmm. I think I understand. Is that not a bit of a pain ?
Would it be easier with a generic MP3 player (still not sold on the ipod )

LyraSilvertongue · 15/06/2009 19:25

Not really because I tend to download everything straight to the mac, so easy peasy.
I'm not sure if it's the same with a generic MP3 player.

LyraSilvertongue · 15/06/2009 19:28

This is turning into a tech thread

oggsfrog · 15/06/2009 19:58

Yay! My Twilight soundtrack has just finished downloading . This is ace.

LyraSilvertongue · 15/06/2009 20:14

It's a very good soundtrack (especially the Muse bit).
Where did you download it from? I thought it was going to take four days.

oggsfrog · 15/06/2009 20:40

PirateBay. It actually took about 4 hours.

LyraSilvertongue · 15/06/2009 22:12

Four hours isn't bad considering your slow speeds. A few months ago it would have taken a year to download a whole soundstrack.
