Number 13?

OP posts:
ZebsRoomofHerOwn · 20/05/2009 16:56

Middlemarch Berrie. You know you want to.

Actually, I do recommend The Polish Officer by Alan Furst, or anything else written by him. They're sort of spy stories with a bit of romance thrown in, and quite good. Well, I enjoy them anyway. I'm half reading Mrs Hislop's new book, set in Spain. I think it's called the return. That's also pretty good.

Lyra, I saw the film. Very freaky.

And I've broken my laptop. How long have I had it?

LyraSilvertongue · 20/05/2009 17:06

Oh, I just read The Woods by Harlan Coben. It's a thriller. The mystery of what happened to a group of teenagers in the woods 20 years ago, two of whom were found dead, two of whom were never seen again, is about to be solved...
All his books are excellent.

oggsfrog · 20/05/2009 19:03

The film 'Interview with the Vampire' Zeb? That's really old isn't it? Tom Cruise, Bradd Pitt, Antonio Banderas, Kirsten Dunst. I quite enjoyed it .

oggsfrog · 21/05/2009 07:21

Morning

How have you managed to break your laptop Zeb?

Lyra, hope your heating engineer shows up today and fixes your boiler.

Berrie, when have you booked your tanning session for? Do you have any Burberry accessories? Is it a spray on or a booth thingy?

I managed to nearly brain myself yesterday and am still feeling the effects this morning...
I walked at quite a speed into a brow level concrete lintel. Full whack.
The noise it made was sickening and I nearly simultaneously fainted and threw up.
I also bit the side of my tongue.

It was so painful that I was expecting copious bleeding and leaking brains, and at the very least a huge bruise.
I've only got a lump and a bit of a dent to show for it, but it's still bloody painful now.

Berrie · 21/05/2009 08:16

Oooo Oggs that sounds horrible. Tell DH to let us know if you get a blood clot.

My tanning session is booked for the Saturday before we go on Monday 8th. Apparently it only lasts about 5 days so I shall be untanned by the third day! It also says that swimming pools bleach the tan so since we are hoping to get the dc swimming confidently while we are there I guess there isn't much point to it....but I'm doing it anyway! It's not a booth.

ZebsRoomofHerOwn · 21/05/2009 10:08

Owwwww Oggs, I'm cringing just thinking about it. Have you got a big bandage wrapped around your head to ensure full family sympathy?

Berrie, along with the Burberry gear you need to get a status symbol handbag and skyscraper heels. No, you can't have my Louboutins.

I have no idea how I broke my laptop, but it was right after I downloaded some Microsoft updates. However, I spent last night re-building it - so am now having to reload everything. Fortunately, as I've had it less than a week I didn't lose much and it's now up and running again. It's just annoying. And I'm now waiting for BTman to come and sort out my broadband properly. I've got it set up with the cable, but need the wireless bit etc.

On a cheerier note, I had a VERY dirty dream last night about DT in Dr Who mode. Hehehe. Don't know where that came from

ZebsRoomofHerOwn · 21/05/2009 10:11

And not wishing to be morbid Oggs, but thinking about blood clots, check your pupils and make sure they're ok. I just read a story this am about a kid in Oz who bashed his head, and developed a clot - the doc realised because of the size of one of the pupils and saved his life. Please please go to a doctor if you are AT ALL concerned.

Berrie · 21/05/2009 10:49

I took some wedgey high shoes last year...I didn't wear them once! I had this image of me sitting glamorously in some french cafe with a glass of beer, a french cigarette and some seafood. But I was camping with 2 kids so...flip flops and slobbing about the tent!

ZebsRoomofHerOwn · 21/05/2009 11:56

You'll miss them when they're all grown up and refuse to go on holiday with you. Then you'll be sat outside your French cafe with your gauloise and coffee and posh shoes feeling all sad and lonely.

oggsfrog · 21/05/2009 13:26

Pupils duly checked.... they're both there .

You know I'd forgotten all about blood clots etc until Berrie mentioned it. Then I remembered Natasha Richardson and had a minute of panic.
I'm sure I'll be fine. It bloody hurt though .

I self-medicated last night by drinking a bottle of wine and drooling over rewatching Twilight. Unfortunately I thought I could knit at the same time and now have a mismatching pair of fingerless mitts .

The madness begins in earnest today so I probably won't be around much over the next few days.

Have good weekends!

LyraSilvertongue · 21/05/2009 13:50

Ouch Oggs, I could almost feel it myself reading that. Hope you're ok. Bad timing what with being so busy, eh?
Have you fllen off the wagon? wine is banned, you know .
Boiler man is supposed to be coming about 3.30 so we shall see...

ZebsRoomofHerOwn · 21/05/2009 16:20

Did your boilerman arrive? My BTman didn't. Luckily I'm not a total muppet and can sort out some of my broadband connection.

Oggs, I'm glad you're not too bad.

Berrie · 21/05/2009 17:51

Zeb the Tech!

LyraSilvertongue · 21/05/2009 18:06

He did. He's fixed the leak but he reckons there's probably another leak somewhere in the system. Oh joy.
Lyra the hypocrite is having a glass of wine as we speak. Three people today asked me if I'd lost weight, so I thought, as I'm doing so well, I'll go and ruin it with large quantities of wine

Berrie · 21/05/2009 19:01

Ah well, sounds as if you need it. I might join you.

ZebsRoomofHerOwn · 22/05/2009 09:22

Morning all. What are you all up to today?

Berrie · 22/05/2009 11:32

Morning. Just been and done 2 lessons. Spent the second on the floor next to the child's desk Luckily no-one walked in. I've one more lesson this afternoon. Dh is coming home in a bit to take FIl into hospital. Am slightly concerned about the holiday...

LyraSilvertongue · 22/05/2009 20:43

DP was home today so we went to watch DS2's class assembly at school, which was about Mr Benn and he was a clown.
After that we went for lunch at Jamie's Italian, our very own Jamie Oliver restaurant. It was good but I'd had higher hopes.
Then I went into town and got contact lenses - speccy four-eyes no more!

Berrie · 23/05/2009 08:59

Are things any better Lyra?

ZebsRoomofHerOwn · 23/05/2009 12:03

Congratulations on the lenses Lyra, you won't regret it! Has it cheered you up a bit?

How are the holiday prospects looking, Berrie?

Oggs, I hope the madness isn't too insane

LyraSilvertongue · 23/05/2009 12:18

A little better, yes. These lenses are making everything look weird. The pavement seems closer so I feel about 4ft tall.
I went clothes shopping yesterday. Why is it that shops put comedy mirrors in the changing rooms that make you look twice as fat as you thought you were? I tried on a pair of purple skinny jeans - no chance. I need to lose another stone first.

Berrie · 23/05/2009 19:28

I can't believe you need to lose another stone Lyra. Where from?

FIL not very well but no idea what is wrong as yet. Poor Dh left at lunchtime. There were no beds in the medical assesment ward so he waited with fil in A&E and got home after 11pm.
The GP had given dh idea that there was something badly wrong inside that he couldn't discover. I can't see us going if fil is on his way out. But...could be nothing.

LyraSilvertongue · 23/05/2009 22:54

Bum and thighs. That's where its gotta go from.
Sorry to hear about FIL. is DH ok? Hope you still get to go on hols.

Berrie · 24/05/2009 06:09

Hope so too but looking a little dodgy.
Off down your way today to finally meet new niece! I'll look out for a lady looking like you only with enormous thighs!

LyraSilvertongue · 24/05/2009 11:25

Annoyingly, my boobs were the first to shrink and my bum the last. Typical huh. Have fun in Richmond. We'll be in Richmond Park today picnicking in the sunshine.
