Number 13?

OP posts:
Berrie · 08/05/2009 13:44

I am off work, in bed, in pain, using the potty at the side of the bed...feeling rather sorry for myself.

MatthewBellamysMuse · 08/05/2009 14:22

Oh dear
Nag that doc for your referral. You can't keep living like this.

Too late for today. I should have rung this morning. I'll get on to him if I'm still this way on Monday.

Berrie · 09/05/2009 13:35

Hello.

All is quiet again.
I am in bed. Dh is riddling with the neighbour in the front garden and the dc are with them. I can hear out of the window that dd is collecting a bucket of worms.

What are you all up to? We were supposed to be in Richmond for breakfast to meet my new niece with cocktails tonight before returning home tomorrow.

oggsfrog · 10/05/2009 01:39

Big Jim were a worm,
were a great big worm,
were a great big beautiful bloody red worm.

Large and fat, and just like picture,
crossed with an eel and a boa constrictor.

Fed on whisky which made him frisky,
and pies and a pint or two.

Big Jim were a worm, were a great big worm,
were a great big, beautiful, bloody red worm.

Morning all. Did you miss me? And more importantly, what's been happening to you guys and what have I missed?

Phew. Back from mostly sunny Dorset and my parents have now left, and DS is with DH. Ahhhh, peace at last.

Berrie · 10/05/2009 12:40

I missed you Zeb,it's been very quiet.
Oggs is busy with the festival I think. Lyra is having bespoke wardrobes and I am laid up again. That's about it I think.

ZebsRoomofHerOwn · 10/05/2009 16:36

Aww, thank you. It's nice to feel loved.

MatthewBellamysMuse · 11/05/2009 11:19

I'm kind of still here. Going through a bit of a tough time in RL so might not be about much for a while

OP posts:
ZebsRoomofHerOwn · 11/05/2009 11:35

I hope things work out Lyra, whatever's happening in RL. Bleuch, RL, over-rated!!!
This is my last week of freedom before I'm back to work next week, then I'll probably get quiet as well. Although. Ha-ha! I'm the boss. Can I sack myself for over-use of Mumsnet?

Berrie · 11/05/2009 11:40

Oh dear. Hope things are ok Lyra.Let us know if we can help.

Zeb what plans do you have for your last week?

ZebsRoomofHerOwn · 11/05/2009 15:06

Gym. Gym. and more Gym. Oh, and I've been invited to the very prestigious Cornwall Business Awards (no, really, they are!) on Thursday. Which will get VERY messy as I know loads of people going, all of whom will want to know about my new job. Fortunately, I also have a bed for the night there. And I've even bought a new posh frock for the occasion.

Berrie · 11/05/2009 15:34

Why don't you want to tell them about your job?

oggsfrog · 11/05/2009 16:53

Hello all .

Busy with Festival and RL at moment so won't be around as much. I will try to check in every day.

Lyra, so sorry you're having a tough time. I'll be thinking of you.
Hope things get better for you soon.
As Berrie says, if there is anything we can do just shout.

Berrie, back still bad? How's the squirrel? Any progress on the tardis?

Zeb, how's the weight loss going? Are you hitting the gym a lot? Have a good messy time on Thursday. You don't have to worry about work the next day.

ZebsRoomofHerOwn · 11/05/2009 18:51

Oh no, Berrie. Quite the opposite. I'll be shouting it from the rooftops. All I mean about messy is that this event is notorious. Note to self. Try not to get too hammered before it even starts.

And this is my first venture into the gym since before my holiday, so it's all gone a bit to pot. So this week I plan to try to go every day if I can, or at least several times, then as of next week I'll get into a proper routine.

Berrie, what's this about a squirrel?

Berrie · 12/05/2009 09:06

One of our next door neighbours is a ranger at Centre Parcs. Someone bought a squirrel to them that had fallen from its nest. She was supposed to kill it but couldn't so she bought it home. Dh made a heat lamp for it and it needs feeding from a syringe. When they are at work we look after it. It is not as flea free as they think it is.

Hope you have a great time...I seem to remember this from last year...I think you were absent for a few days and we speculated as to what had happened that evening!

I read the Philippa Gregory...it wasn't that bad Mrs I've read Middlemarch five times! Actually it was quite interesting for me as Chatsworth, Ashby Castle and Tutbury Castle are all local to me. Anyway I am now reading a 'proper' biography of the two Queens which I had because it was written by an old friend of my Mums so you must forgive me my lack of literary taste.

ZebsRoomofHerOwn · 12/05/2009 09:56

Squirrels? Pah! Vermin. I'd eat them but I've never thought the effort involved in preparing them would be justified by the result.

So does the Philippa Gregory book get better? It's just that I found all the first person fake period speak from each of the characters really irritating. I just wanted her to write the story, like she normally does, as I do normally really like her stuff. She's miles better than most of the other writers of that sort. And 'ere, missus, I won't have you dissing Middlemarch, awright?!!!! I'm now going to send you off to read North & South by Elizabeth Gaskell ('er wot rote Cranford). It's ALL about sex.

So what's the other book you're reading about them? After all that O/Ding on Edward Cullum, something a bit more intellectually challenging might be a good idea.

Right. I'm off to get my eyes tested as I have a hideous feeling I'm now needing bi-focals. . Then I'm going to buy a laptop as my pc just can't keep up any more. I've also signed up for Broadband, which should be installed next week. Hurrah!!!! Busy busy busy....

Berrie · 12/05/2009 10:32

Dh shot and ate a squirrel once! It was very nice apparently. I really don't know what they will do with it as they get nasty when they get older.

MMmm does it get better? Well, the first person stuff continues but you kind of get used to it. I should point out that I was laid up in bed so I had a good reason to persevere. Do you like all of her books? I hated The Wise Woman and the ones based on a country estate somewhere...really horrible.

The book
I'm really enjoying it in smaller chunks! I do like this sort of stuff though.

ZebsRoomofHerOwn · 12/05/2009 10:57

Oh God no! I read Wideacre many years ago and HATED it, that was also really horrible. So I won't go near that stuff. But her Elizabethan stuff I enjoy.

That other book looks interesting though. And like you, I do enjoy all that stuff too, although I prefer the Medieval period, as long as Alison Weir's not writing it.

Berrie · 12/05/2009 11:27

Gregory recommends Wier to a reader in the question and answer bit at the back!

Oggs, to answer your questions, the squirrel has fleas despite the spraying, my back gets better every day but I am still not working and the tardis is coming along very slowly as it's hard to knit when horizontal!

ZebsRoomofHerOwn · 12/05/2009 11:49

Weir's non fiction style is far more suited to fictional romance, IYSWIM. I read her biography of Eleanor of Aquitaine and it didn't impress. If you want to read a decent female historian stick with Antonia Fraser, she's really good.

Berrie · 12/05/2009 12:23

Yep, I've got a couple of hers. I think you'd like Jane Dunn.

oggsfrog · 12/05/2009 16:12

Ooh. I turn my back for five minutes and you've gorn all high brow on me .
I've not read any of those.

ZebsRoomofHerOwn · 12/05/2009 18:17

Would it helped if I popped out to buy Hello to get the latest on Jordan's split with Peter and their request for privacy? Now that's the funniest thing I've heard in ages.
