francagoestohollywood · 09/02/2009 22:02

Italian teachers are sadists, yes, that is way we grow up so blase'

Well, yes, I was thinking that perhaps he is starting to realize that what happened to littlefood could happen to him

francagoestohollywood · 09/02/2009 22:03

Yes, the little boy and the deer. Sunflower, I used to be able to watch horror movies, but couldn't watch 5 mins of the yearling again!

Penthesileia · 09/02/2009 22:07

Oh, bless him.

Not sure if you read to your LOs in English, but I found [[http://www.amazon.co.uk/Badgers-Parting-Gifts-Susan-Varley/dp/0006643175 this book] really helped me to come to terms with and understand death a bit better when I was little.

I suppose all you can do is explain that mummy and daddy will be around for a long time yet.

Penthesileia · 09/02/2009 22:08

Sorry - this book.

francagoestohollywood · 09/02/2009 22:13

oh thanks, have added it to my wish list.

Yes, that's what I said, and that I really understand how he felt, and how nice it was that he felt sad for littlefood, and all the general crap reassuring things we say in the hope they will fall asleep asap!!!

OP posts:
Penthesileia · 09/02/2009 22:22

Did he fall asleep ok in the end?

I hope so.

Oh well - I'm off now to read a bit.

Night night.

francagoestohollywood · 09/02/2009 22:25

Yes, I stayed by his side until he fell asleep.

I'm going too, notte.

Morning from a grey and spitty rainy aqua alta Venice..DH groaned slept ok last night it is still a bit sore to say the least !
Turned tv on last night and Rete 4 had Fede going on about Eluana - they were doing an edizione speciale..... I cannot turn the news on today I just think it will be too much. So I watched Grande Fratello for 10 mins instead what a load of $$$$$££!
Right morning looms so better go and do something constructive !

Bucharest · 10/02/2009 08:55

I hovered between GF and Eluana.....Messed with my head a bit doing both of those things.....

Feel very sorry for the father....Cannot understand why people need to go and stand outside hospitals when it's nothing to do with them. Griefhags. You want to protest, do it at a more opportune and respectful moment. Ditto some of the tripe Fede was coming out with. Freak artist.

Ah, the things I could tell you about Scamy........

PippiCalzelunghe · 10/02/2009 09:48

ahhhh 'the yearling'... yes that was a tragic one for which I cried buckets. another dramatic one for me was 'the champion' (with the boxer dad and the blond kid, remember)?

DD1 has shown bambi and she's okay, don;t think she undrstand yet. one she cried a lot (like I did) was the fox and the hound.

Bucharest, I am sure there'll be envelopes stuffed with money coming your way soon...

Bucharest · 10/02/2009 09:52

Dd cried lots at Heffalump movie- when Lumpy briefly got lost, and again at Horton.....(now refuses to watch it again) She was OK with Bambi (and Dumbo- which I thought she might cry at given her elephant fetish)

I cry at everything- the news, reality tv.....books, films....

PippiCalzelunghe · 10/02/2009 09:56

yes so do I. Dd1 and I cried together when heidi looks at the painting that reminds her of nonno and peter and the alps!!!

PippiCalzelunghe · 10/02/2009 09:57

seen not shown obviously! damn!

francagoestohollywood · 10/02/2009 11:25

Bucharest, stop titillating us! I know you would never . Though I'm very curious.
Yes, the champion, I remember it. I cried buckets when I watch "L'orca assassina" when I was 9 (as I said, my parents were a bit liberal or possibly it just wasn't a done thing in the 70s to monitor your children's tv consumption ) it was heartbreaking! A male orca getting revenge on the fishermen who had killed its pregnant partner ! Apparently orche mate for life!

Good things or bad things? Morally disgusting things, like he doesn't pay his taxes? Affairs? Misfits in his youth? Manias? Secret child? Bocciature?

OP posts:
Penthesileia · 10/02/2009 11:37

LOL @ "Morally disgusting things, like he doesn't pay his taxes?"

franca, I think I love you.

Brangelina · 10/02/2009 11:54

I haven't been able to watch Bambi since I was 6. The killer whale one got me too. Any wildlife programme where something dies also makes me well up. There was a film on telly about abandoned huskies a while ago and I just couldn't watch it, tears were streaming down my face.

Thank goodness for Eluana, poveretta. The whole thing has sickened me. The comment that really got my goat was that she should be kept alive because she could theoretically still have babies. So, confirmed that the Catholic church and all those who kowtow to it think that all women are nothing but incubators.

Bucharest, please don't tell me that Scamy has fartybreath, or even that he farts after meals. That would be just too disappointing.

Brangelina · 10/02/2009 11:55

I just can't watch Emilio Fede. He just makes me want to shout at the television.

hothell · 10/02/2009 11:59

But is a bocciatura morally disgusting? lol

francagoestohollywood · 10/02/2009 12:14

no, no, no, certainly not, I was trying to cover a wide range of perversions or scheletri nell'armadio.

Penthe , 'love ya too!

Yes, Brange. There is a very good editorial by Ezio Mauro in today's La Repubblica. (I also wonder, what kind of moral highground can Berlusconi take? Somehow can't imagine him looking after a sick loved one every single day for 17 yrs )

OP posts:
Rosa · 10/02/2009 12:52

Berlusconi has a whole nation to look after and he doesn't manage that very well !
Brange watch your post box as have sent MM to you.

I'm appalled at eluana story, which shamefully I did know nothing about.
Rosa you are so right!
To be honest with you I do not know what to say that you haven't said already. It's probably not right but I find it easier to ignore the whole italian political situation as it's 'vergognosa'! Morality or honour are two of the many things that do not feature.

francagoestohollywood · 10/02/2009 14:34

It is totally depressing. I can't ignore it though, as we are here. I wonder what the foreign press is saying about what's going on here. They are probably ignoring it, as usual. Which is sad, really.
