Ciao, hello, welcome!

OP posts:
PippiCalzelunghe · 18/11/2008 14:04

re udito, I had it done for dd2 but not for dd1.

Rosa · 18/11/2008 17:56

Thanks guys - took her to be weighed today and she isn't doing that well 35g more since we came out of hospital !!!! Anyway we have til Friday to make things better and then its back to the paed for an official weigh in and if he says formula I will probably crumple as I am trying sooooo hard. Even spent Eu20 in farmacia for fennel stuff / syrup to improve milk!
Pippi - yes to 2nd hand toys I bought a load for Grandmas house some off mumsnet people to be honest. If in Italy they sold more I would probably buy them. I bought some FAB books off another mumsnet person 10 books all in excellent condition for £8 inc postage.
In fact there is a 2nd hand shop which had an ironing board and iron in the window for Eu10 but when I went back it had gone!!!
This hearing thing - I thought it was automatic boh - ignorant inglese I just do as I am told !!!!!

Brangelina · 18/11/2008 18:33

I opened my email just now and found some pics of 2 lovely babies.

Rosa, your litle newborn is gorgeous, makes me want one too. But no red hair! That can't be right, are you sure you got the right baby.
Pippi, your 2 are lovely, both really pretty. They're really alike too. DD1 looks like a good big sis.

Rosa, if you get no support from the paed go to the local consultorio familiare or pediatrico. They have breastfeeding sessions and are a lot less likely to push the "aggiunta". Well, the ones in Milan are like that anyway, very WHO baby friendly. Also, get some curries in, I'm convinced my supply increased noticeably every time I had one. Much more enjoyable than those horrible teas [shudder at the memory].

We had the udito test too, I thought it was routine.

Ebay - I'm the queen of ebay and buy most of DD's clothes on there. I find the UK one much better though - that's where I'm going to sell DD's clothes once I get around to it. Nothing wrong with 2nd hand toys either, at that age they can't tell the difference so make the most of it while you can!

Sputnik · 18/11/2008 20:27

Rosa, I hope you can get going with the breastfeeding, if you don't know of it already Kellymom is a good resource for info on bf and will probably have something on boosting your supply in the early days.

hothell · 18/11/2008 20:45

oh, i buy load of stuff 2nd hand, i think it's great, no shame, italians si fanno troppi problemi.
rosa don't get stressed and do whatever makes you comfortable. dd is on formula and we are happy like this, but don't let them force you to do something you don't want to do, lots of support on mumsnet for breastfeeders.
will send photo of my dd asap, with name, weight, etc, beautiful pics by the way, lovely girls...
maybe i wasnt pregnant when i fancied bannantyne, but now i am a mum of 2 i found him repulsive.
are you going back to work pippi?

PippiCalzelunghe · 18/11/2008 21:05

thanks girls. yes they are great sisters, for now.

hot I find him repulsive too ...I wonder what happened to us. re: work. well I do not think I am going back where I was as far too far (hammersmith). I'll see if I can find smthng nearer in the new year. but to be honest this time the idea of staying at home for a few years seems quite appealing as I find the life of a toddler so interesting and full. and it seems all so very easy this time around. Maybe I'll do a MA if I don't go back.
send pics asap and phone number and meeting point/date [bossy emoticon].

yes italian ebay is rubbish. could not find anything there. I was feeling guilty because of the second hand thing (my house is 90% arredata from charity shops) only because it's xmas... dunno...ridiculous really. anyway I'm over it and think playmobil are an investmentg for future university fees you should see what some things go for.

rosa I am always impressed on how many times babies get weighted in italy. here is every day for the first two days then once after a week and maybe once more the week later then... you are on your own. I remember taking dd1 to the health visitor rarely, dd2 barely seen them.
are you struggling with breast feeding then? I second what hot said, do what you think it's best and works.
RED HAIR???? I want a baby with red hair. I am still praying dd2 will turn out a bit ginger....

PippiCalzelunghe · 18/11/2008 21:28

correction 'I was feeling guilty NOT because of the second hand thing'...

hothell · 18/11/2008 21:29

ohhh, come anna dai capelli rossi....
maybe what attracted me to bannantyne was his big fat wallet (whore emoticon), then i wouldnt' have to trail around bloody charity shops and do ebay

PippiCalzelunghe · 18/11/2008 22:10

'anna dai capelli rossi va, vola come una rondine, na na nannanannan' must rewatch the dvds soon .

tbh even if I were a millionaire i'd still go to charity shops... you find the best stuff ever, and most original.
hot have you sent pics yet? I am free this sat (dh going to see the rugby) or anyday after 11.30.

Rosa · 19/11/2008 08:10

Rosa goes to the bf threads whilst drinking fennel tea . Can't face a curry just yet thinking of my nether regions - getting much better but not out of the wood yet.
I went to the consultorio yesterday It was a bit traumatic as when went with dd1 there was the most fantastic doc but unfortunatley he died when dd1 was 1.4 I went to his funeral - all very sad. However went back as they are fab and they suggested this Lactogal syrup, lots of water , bunging on boob whenever can - However they confirmed that her latch is good and she is taking something off! However her weight gain in 2 weeks is not so good. I had milk probs with dd1 but was / am determined to do better with dd2 but have never had the engorged ( right word?) feeling or massive increased boobs! Last night was traumatic again so have had 3 hrs sleep at intervals - now who wants another new born ????????
Must dash to get washing out and shopping before next boob attack !

Brangelina · 19/11/2008 10:52

Rosa, I never got engorged either and when I leaked it was only drops, not lakes like all my friends. I never needed to buy breastpads either. I was told it makes no difference. I did have a baby that fed constantly though, and went through the night (not good for bfing apparently). If yours is waking in the night then it's positive for your milk productions.

Like Pippi, I think they weigh too often in Italy as well - can you not leave it for another week or 2 before getting her weighed again? As long as you see she's not dehydrated and her skin is pink and rosy she's OK. She was quite big at birth as well, wasn't she? That'll probably mean she's got a bit of "catching down" to do before she puts it on again. I'm sure you'll get a lot of useful replies on the bfing threads, though.

One thing I'd do if I ahd my time again is relax and not fret about it, as the more wound up I got about possibly not having enough milk the worse it was (that and DD's paed making unhelpful comments. I know it's easier said than done but it's worth trying to go with the flow. Maybe set yourself a time - like a 2 weeks or 10 days away - before you allow yourself to start worrying again.

Good luck.

Brangelina · 19/11/2008 10:55

Lol at the curry effects, I hadn't thought of that! I had the opposite problem, the famous post cs constipation - basically it ensured I got the giving birth experience nonetheless (sorry if TMI).

PippiCalzelunghe · 19/11/2008 11:20

I had both... which together it is really hell as you can imagine (def TMI here )!!

I was one that if forgot the breastpads it would be fontana do trevi!!! I really felt like a cow tbh.

francagoestohollywood · 19/11/2008 11:29

Lol Brangelina!
Rosa, I've never had the "engorged" feeling as well (apart from the first few days when ds was born) nor did I leak visibly and never needed breast pads. So I don't think there is much correlation between massive leaking boob and milk production.

This is the Italian la leche league website with a list of "consultenti" in every region.

To be honest, I think I'd be very apprehensive about the weight gain too (and I think it is quite fair to weight regularly newborns). I'd spend these days before friday app with paediatrician feeding her as often/long as you possibly can, drink as much as you can (included the horrid fennel tea) and lots of cuddling with her in bed etc etc etc ( I know easier said than done).

OP posts:
Sputnik · 19/11/2008 12:48

Try not to worry too much Rosa, it's very early days yet. My DS was slow to gain weight in the first month and then absolutely took off and became huge. I never had the engorgedness either, maybe that's a good sign that they are eating well.

Good advice to feed as often as possible. These early weeks are really intense, aren't they, especially when you've got another one.

I actually got a cleaner for the first 2-3 months with DS, it was a real help.

Sputnik · 19/11/2008 13:08

I never was leaky or used breastpads either. And I've has 2 massive bf babies. I used to get comments basically like what a great cow I was

Brangelina · 19/11/2008 13:36

Lol, I used to get called la mucca Carolina because DD was always on the boob.

Rosa · 19/11/2008 15:54

Big hug to you lot you really are great - Thanks I met a friend who is exp No2 in feb and she gave me a number of this paed who specialises in BF - so I called and she will see me on Friday if weigh in is not good. Just to give me more tips - mind you I used nearly all my ricarica just chatting to her !!!! It seems all I am doing is right however she did say that by friday there should be some weight gain . I saw dd2 paed on Fri last week and he wants to weigh her on his scales a week after he saw her.She is pink and rosy but her skin is a bit dryish more in patches but olio di mandorla seems to work well. She does have a grumbly tummy but I think the fennel tea is helping her to burp
LOL Dh went to mainland to do Xmas shopping ( the xmas catalogues have arrived so he went to beat the rush)- also he said he would be more thrifty than me . He says that the boot of the car is full- We have a big estate car so I am concerned on what he has bought.
Pippi your dds are LOVELY - ( and your house looks nice as well !!!!!!!!)

francagoestohollywood · 19/11/2008 17:07

Oh rosa, great news about the paed. Here's (passes on a big mug of fennel tea) to dd2's putting on a bit of weight in the next few days.

Rather of rosa's dh going christmas shopping, which my dh would abhor (and since we are back to Italy he has also avoided taking me to supermarkets as I go with my mother )

I have more or less sorted the presents for the dc, and will have to think of the adults which is a bit daunting.

thanks rosa. you sound so chirpy and well. I am so glad and happy for you.
how come none of you had to wear breastpads????? !!! Did you not get this tingly feeling when it was time for a feed and the milk would start to come out in full force??? now you know why I am not a big fan of this pgcy business...

as well to dh doing xmas shopping. mine leaves everything to me (even his family, and in a few years time I bet even the one for myself ). but I don't mind really.

francagoestohollywood · 19/11/2008 20:41

Lol Pippi, I also bu y presents for dh's family as well . I'm sure my dh would be relieved if he could avoid the faff of getting me a present... I wouldn't mind either, as I spotted a beautiful bag the other day.....

OP posts:
PippiCalzelunghe · 19/11/2008 20:51

PippiCalzelunghe · 19/11/2008 20:59

hothell · 19/11/2008 21:00
