Ciao, hello, welcome!

OP posts:
PippiCalzelunghe · 01/11/2008 20:24

rosa second pg is rubbish for that. dh/dps think that because you've done it once you're fine and there's no point in fussing over you ! tbh it lasts even after. I felt all upbeat like hothell till now. now I am exhausted and lots of fights with dh who thinks 2 dds are a ride in the park. anyway dh had what I thought was man flu as well ... now in hospital with collapsed lung ! a bit worried tbh.

Hothell!!!! Great news!!!! keep it up!!!

Rosa · 01/11/2008 21:21

Oh heck Pippi - hope that he is ok and he gets well soon - Rosa rushes off to check on dh ......I have looked in dh throat and he has white bits so have dug out the antibiotics and said just take them its either that or the guardia medica domani as I am not taking any more.
He did say he was hot then cold a bit like being pg - I replied well if you were pg then you a) can't complain that you feel rough or b) you suffer in silence .
Nostalgic moment with pg 1 - back rubs, foot massage - this time nothing and I am 10 time worse off!
Well off for another nights great sleep ( not)
Pippi keep us update on dh - do you have anybody who can help you with the 2 dds?

Sputnik · 01/11/2008 21:52

Pippi, I hope your DH is ok and recovers quickly. It must be tough on your own. That is so true about the second pg btw.

Keep an eye on your DH too Rosa, mine came down with suspected pneumonia the day I came out of hospital with DS and was in bed with fever for 2 weeks. I was very put out as I'd been expecting to be the one in bed all day, but it wasn't to be.

Maybe your DD is sensing your tension over the arrival of the baby, hope you can sort things. I had terrible problems with DD too, but seems to be sorted now.

gio71 · 02/11/2008 06:50

Pippi hope your dh is ok. How is dd Rosa?
TBH knowing that DP would be totally useless if I was pregnant again (and probably afterwards as well) makes me think twice about having a second. He is driving me insane at the moment with no comprehension that just because he goes to an office everyday doesn't mean he works harder than me (he doesnt!) AND he has no ds around. If I say I have had a hard day he responds with "me too" and if I get snappy I get "it's not just you that works." No idea of reality, he would last 30 seconds of one of my typical days! He expects constant recognition of the fact he baths ds a few times a week and loads the dishwasher at night! Bloody men!

hothell · 02/11/2008 07:58

oh dear, you are all going through a rough time. quickly read your poo problem rosa, can you bribe your dd rosa? if she poos in the potty she gets a sticker and when she has 3 or 5 or whatever she gets a treat, a little toy or something. Worked with ds. when she poos in her pants say nothing, ignore, pretend nothing happened and quickly change her. And lots of prunes of course. You must absolutely not stress at all, because it will worry your dd so much. I do think she probably has it worse because you are about to have a baby. My pregnancy, the second, was so crap that to be honest i would never have another baby again, and it goes on forever....
Pippi do you have my number? Hope your dh is better, if you need any help we are here, far away but if you don't have anybody to help with brood we can come and help. Awful to have partner who is not well, and little kids around....Honeymoon period still on here, though have to sit down with dp and explain there are some things i do expect him to do in the house, clear table, wash the odd effing dish, will need to draw up a rota, otherwise i end up doing evrything, i am very happy but i am not stupid!

Rosa · 02/11/2008 08:18

Thanks guys - This morning she did say ( and I feel so guilty) mummy not to be sad today as I had a bit of a crying breakdown with the last hr of mummy mummy male last night. I just said to make mummy happy we can do a poo in the toilet or potty then we will go to the shop and get something nice .....
Spoke too soon - its started again .
Dh throat worse found some anitbiotics that expired in June but asked him to look in his throat he says he can't look on his own and when I look its pathetic he sort of half sticks his tongue out ...Oh well onwards and upwards - to the washing up / washing / ironing .
Hot will try the stickers - in fact will try anything !!
Good idea with the rota but dh will wash up but he forgets to check say for the pans on the stove . Or he will hoover but not dust first !
Buona Domenica tutti !

PippiCalzelunghe · 02/11/2008 09:49

'Nostalgic moment with pg 1 - back rubs, foot massage - this time nothing and I am 10 time worse off!' yes Rosa exactly!!!!

Gio you must have my dh. we have been fighting/arguing/not speaking for a few weeks because of this - luckily we ad pproperly explained yourselves and made up the morning he was taken ill. The bad thing is not the hard work but the bit where this it not recognised and we are treated as if we are on the sofa/having lunches/doing our nailsall day!!!! All this is putting me off having another child tbh.

Hot I don't think I do anymore, have you got mine? Must come down soon and see you all if you like. The honey moon period is great as it's full of energy and strength but like you say oh wise hothell it's better not to overdo it or the dh/dp think that it's business as usual. (will I learn for 3rd time?) Having said that, one is so happy not to feel so heavy that will do anything with the rediscovered freedom.

DH still in, lung had not inflated as it should have done. maybe back today, awaiting x-rays. the more is in the more we all worry. Thanks for all your offers of help but we are doing brilliantly. tbh not one bit of differenc from normal (dh leaves at 7 and comes home at 7) except after kids in bed I have nothing else to do. so in a perverse way I'm enjoying this two days holiday.
To add another chapter on the wicked (will say this in italian just in case) cognata: da venerdi ancora non si e' degnata do telefonargli! Vile!!!!

Rosa it'll be so lovely to see you.

DelGirl · 02/11/2008 09:54

just popping in to say a quick ciao . Up to my eyes in 'stuff' at the mo. Hope you're all ok. I may be back in December for a couple of days but staying south of Rome this time. My bro wants to look at some property and i'm never one to turn down a trip to Italy

bfn

Rosa · 02/11/2008 13:07

Hi delgirl - lucky you zooming round !
Pippi - just think if your dh was in Italy then he would be in anyway today as they don't to anything non urgent on a sunday here !!!
I have dh at home officially from Nov 8th for about 40 days but we have a few services the week after that he will do and then there will be a bit of coming and going to the boat yard. I just want to get things clear for who does what after grandma has gone - and it sounds like I should get things clear. He has just eaten something which is good but now waiting for pills to kick in.
Still no poo from dd today but took her out for a walk ( waddle) so pm we wait and see.
Made a prune / plum crumble ( it was sooo good with custard !!!!!!!)

Brangelina · 02/11/2008 14:47

Yum at the plum crumble. I really fancy a crumble right now but have no fruit (don't think 1 manky banana and 2 festering plums will suffice).

Rosa, I'm a bit at your DH taking unprescribed out of date anti-bs. Doesn't he worry about creating drug resistant bacteria? The pills will probably be at half strength by now, much much better to avoid than create a possible long term problem. Give him antiseptic lozenges or one of those horrible throat sprays until he can get to a doc. Better still, colour in a paracetamol tablet with non toxic felt tip pen and tell him it's an anti-b. The placebo effect works wonders with men.

Pippi, poor your DH, one of DPs friends was hospitalised for this earlier in the year. Apparently it's quite common, especially in taller men. I hope he has a speedy recovery. One good thing that came out of it for DP's friend was that it stopped him smoking, as he was on a pneumo ward along with terminally ill long term smokers. Not nice at all.

Gio, I hear you re levels of DP uselessness. When I do have flickers of broodiness for a second child I just remember his total uselessness with the first one, coupled with the probable "helpful" comments along the lines of "well, you did want 2". As if he had not part in the decision.

Brangelina · 02/11/2008 14:52

Sorry Rosa, I didn't want to come across all admonishing and schoolmarmy. It's just it's a subject close to my heart as someone I know got very ill from catching a drug resistent infection.

Is it still raining down your way? Maybe I should have lent Franca my wetsuit. Here it's a beautiful day at long last.

Rosa · 02/11/2008 15:54

Its ok Brang and thanks for your concern. I did actually check with my sister who conveniently is a gp before letting him take them.
Basically he is not a drug taking person - none of us are ( apart from the ibroprofen / paracetamol - as and when needed.) I was on rebellion with UTI with this pg as after 3 sets of antib I said enough is enough. However he does have a tonsil weakness and when they get inflamed - last time 2 yrs ago then its antibiotics . The guardia medica despite a 38.5 temp said go to pronto soccorso (!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) on a sunday in festa .
Yesterday 9mth pg woman waded through acqua alta to farmacia to get antiseptic sweets did not work. I will call his doc tom anyway and she can shout at me - he can't talk back atm!!
WHatever illness he is still being a man about it!
Sorry finished the crumble but am going to have to make another it was sooo good !
Franca I think is on her way back - yesterday was a nice day and today foggy but no rain.

happychappy · 02/11/2008 17:36

Gio71 I sorry, my sons like that about my nephew when he comes. My family aren't close so generally feel releaved its all over!!!

Toiletting issues are always a pain. Have you taken her to the dr? What did he/she say?

PippiCalzelunghe · 02/11/2008 19:24

brange 'drug resisting bacteria'! thanks very much. I was just talking about it today with dh, who's an idiot for always stopping the corse half way, but I could not explain myself properly. will tell him off again now. if you can tell me more do so pls.

rosa you were right no doctor came to see him. tutto il mondo e' paese afterall!

Rosa · 02/11/2008 20:55

WIll call dr in the am to see what he suggests. Sister reckons she did a hard poo and so is remembering that it hurt so to continue with the prune overdose and anything else to make it soft- to try not to make a big issue of it and hopefully it will go away !!!!
Anyway will see tom what happens!
Pippi so is dh still in hosp??

PippiCalzelunghe · 02/11/2008 21:17

yes still in. should do another x-ray tomorrow.

all dds in bed - freeeeedom!! will watch 'the family' on channel 4 catch up (please do watch it it's brilliant) and then read in bed ... ahh blisss! (can you tell I really needed some time on my own? maybe dh should take the hint).

dd1 had a terribly hard poo once (she cried) and was scared for a bit. I have got no suggestions though, sorry, as this family is quite good at pooing !

PippiCalzelunghe · 02/11/2008 21:46

Has any of you got an espresso machine? If so which one? and is it any good. can you suggest any?

dh just phoned, the old guy in the bed in front of him is dying... how sad and it reminds him of when he was there wih his dad. shame. hope he comes home tomorrow.

happychappy · 03/11/2008 07:23

We have a classic gaggia. Does great coffee. Through we tend to drink tea at home and coffee out of the house.

Pippi, hospitals are always horrible places full of sad memories for me too. I feel for DH.

happychappy · 03/11/2008 07:25

Off to my Italian class. Should be a laugh. I always learn there just how bad my Italian is!

Rosa · 03/11/2008 09:22

I was going to buy a espresso machine - the one with cialde but as I am anti nestle ( and you have to write off/ e mail for the little things that go in it) - when I looked at the others they seemed fiddly and for the amount of coffee we drink at home it is not worth it ( and teh space they take up) .
Hope your dh comes home soon Pippi ( better) but I know those precious moments to yourself are bliss - No swimming for me today as dh still in pjmas . I must say that the 40 mins I am in the pool have been the best 280 mins I have had in this entire pg..... Well better go off an administer some sympathy.
Auguri with your Italian HC I should do something about my written Italian but I never get round to it !

gio71 · 03/11/2008 10:47

Rosa I am the same with written Italian and I keep saying I will go to classes. Difficult to motivate myself though because I dont need it for work and my spoken Italian is fine so... Perhaps I will learn along with ds as he does
Any poo updates?
How is dh Pippi? Feel for him in the hospital, must be very sad, especially if there are memories like that being stirred up.

PippiCalzelunghe · 03/11/2008 10:55

morning girls. rushing all morning albeit in my new superconfywonderful boots !!

DH might be coming out today. He pulled the tube out of his lung while having a shower though [faint emoticon]!!!!

francagoestohollywood · 03/11/2008 10:58

I'm back, ciao a tutte!!!
And guess waht? Rosa has a veneziano accent !!! It was so lovely to meet her and thanks again for the regalini per i dc! {smile].

Pippi, was talking about St leonards to Rosa the other day! St Leonards is what is perceived as the posh area in Exeter, basically because it's 5 nmins walk from private school and has an "outstanding" primary.
No, we didn't live there, our house would have been 200k more expensive there.
We are 5 mins walk from the high street, 20 mins walk from st leonards, if they are interested let us know. The house is beautiful, if, it hasn't been wrecked by tenants .

Hope your dhs are on the mend, there seems to be loads of bugs around, by dear friend's dd has broncopolmonite . Poor little thing.

Anyway, venezia is magnificent, it is also nice to be away from the traffic and the noise. Rosa, I think I saw your dh's boat the other day!

Have to go and unpack the shopping, tidy up and then I'm out again. ciaooooooooooo

gio71 · 03/11/2008 11:18

at your boots Pippi
welcome back Franca, glad you had a nice time in Venice

happychappy · 03/11/2008 11:25

I am soooo stupid. And I don't know anything. Anyway my friend and I have decided to convert Italy to an English speaking country, one person at a time, starting with our teachers. They have all asked me for English lessons so they are willing participants
