Poo updates - Doc suggested a syrup to give her for a week makes things easier.
Nursery she was fine kept saying she wanted to poo but then when they took her it was no thank you .At home we reached screaming point ( her) she was in a state so we gave her the supposta/ oil / cammomile thing - and had 15 mins of no no mamma mamma before she did a hard compacted poo - I was in tears - Thing is I have been giving her prune juice ( she likes it !!), veg soup , etc trying to avoid any refined sugars - nasty fats etc just to try and help her. Anyway we will try the syrup in her juice this pm and lord I hope it works!
Francas English is Excellent so don't believe it when she says its bad !! I hope you did not get too wet and how was Palazzo Grassi ? and don't forget to let me know what the places you ate were like - good bad etc.
Gio maybe we can get Franca to teach us better Italian ????

francagoestohollywood · 03/11/2008 15:36

Oh your poor dd rosa, brings back lots of memory (I remember I gave dd fig's syrup). She used to cry every time she had to poo and wouldn't poo for days on end.

Did your paediatrician give you lactulose (sp?) syrup? My friend in Exeter used it give it to her ds and it helped. Mind you it takes a few days before it works.

Dd is here next to me saying "sono bellissime queste matite" of the big matita you gave me .

Thurs me and sil went to the scuola di san rocco which was overwhelming!!! Mind you, we stopped en route at do mori so we were a bit drunk... It was rainy, but we even stopped in coin for a while

Saturday we went to Palazzo Grassi, I really enjoyed it, there were 10 pieces which I really loved. We had lunch in san barnaba, stopped at a trattoria called Barnaba, if I remember well, where the food was fantastic, imo, really casalingo, but great. We then went to peggy guggenheim, so it was arte moderma all day long!
Sunday we managed to find space at anice stellato, which was v. good, but the coniglio we had at Barnaba was one of the best thing ever, I think.

I loved the chiccheti at do mori, you were absolutely right!!!!!!

Next time we come we have to go together to vecio bragozzo, darling

It was very good to meet you, very impressed by your veneziano

Glad that your dc liked the pencils .. I have never been to the Trattoria off San barnaba will remember it as I like casalinga food.
AM impressed that you did Pgug as well would have been far too much for me mind you if I went to the Do Mori first I would probably enjoy the lot !!!!!
How long did your dd go on with this poo thing As it is so frustrating? Doc has given her prontolac 1 1/2 coffee spoons with abondante acqua for max a week. Thing is yest she drank a cup of juice and said yummy - so I put it in that today - today she drank a 1/4 so watered it down and tried to persuade her to have more and against all the rules she had juice with dinner but she hasn't finished it so tom will put in small cup of water then try and fill her up afterwards. She is grumpy and obviously uncomfortable oh well domani is un altro giorno !
Off to hosp for check tom am so will fill you all in !

Rosa, we went through that kind of thing with DD too, the actual refusing to poo at all didn't last that long, maybe 4-6 weeks, at which point we encouraged her to poo in a nappy as it was far preferable to her not pooing at all. It then took maybe another 9 or 10 months for her to poo on the toilet.

hothell · 03/11/2008 21:02

Another tip for pooing is to put a nappy in the potty, worked for my friend's ds. Have taken lactulose myself ,and it really works, fantastic stuff!
I remember the ombre i had at the 2 mori, brings memories back.
pippi, don't have yur number, we should meet up though, feel very organised these days but feel the honeymoon is over, sick of washing, cleaning, blah blah, love my beautiful kids though....Glad your dh is feeling better, sounds scary a collapsed lung, what hte hell is it in italian? Big wave to Franca, envy your freedom to travel, and me tied to kitchen oven..

happychappy · 04/11/2008 07:25

It was just us being silly. Because I have avoided Italian lessons for such a long time I have picked up some very bad habits plus I am dyslexic so learning language in general difficult and in a very formal way is very difficult for me. The teachers insist on repassing the grammar in the io sono, tu sei etc way. I know it in constructing a sentence but making lists like that are almost impossible. I'm lucky if I get to egli without giving up. Last year we thought my son might be dyslexic so I was so worried for him because here they don't make life easy for us thickos. It turns out its bilingualism that is causing his problems and although he is strugging to remember and stay with one language when writing. I haven't done anything with written English as yet we are waiting for him to be more secure in his Italian, which obviously more important as we live here. I am so realived.

Rosa is DD perhaps picking up a little on your stress. Its horrible when your horrors are so upset and frightened.

Franca what a lovely day

Pippi I'll be thinking of you and your family. Its must be so difficult to cope with everything and be so worried.

francagoestohollywood · 04/11/2008 09:49

Had just written a long post and it got delated while I was sending it as my connection died when I pressed the post message f**fnjkgnmgsfnmsdfg!

Anywya:

Pippi, hope your dh is better today. let us know how it goes.

Hot, get back on MN and stop being so organized

Happychappy, I think you teacher should adopt a more modern method to teach you Grammar. How old is your son?

Rosa, dd had problems with pooing for a few months, but fig's syrup really helped with softer pupu' (I bribed her with caramella to get spoonful of syrup).

Trattoria san barnaba in calle lunga san barnaba behind the accademia (dorsoduro?). I loved it. Very casalingo. We tasted coniglio, polpette al sugo con polenta, baccala alla vicentina, tagliatelle ai porcini. He seems rustego but was actually really nice. Found the ven iziani really nice, tbh.

Where do I get fig syrup - in a health food shop ??? As I would really prefer something more natural .
HC the method of learning is the one I could never do - Let me listen and learn but not sit and recite verbs and it just does'nt go in and I get even more confused!!
Hot- get a cleaner !!!!!!!
Well I am 2 cm dialated but doc said it could be passive. He was di turno so did not have time to do an eco as he had to rush up to surgery but he said rest ( mmm) and put feet up esp this pm as he had a prod - and we wait and see !!!
SO that is what I am going to do!!!!

francagoestohollywood · 04/11/2008 13:28

Yes, bought it in a health shop (in Exeter though), name is Califig. Hope it's on sale here in Italy as well.

Well, 2 cm is a good starting point. But get some rest, your mother won't be here until tomorrow !!!!

Am sitting on bed with laptop as I am bricking it ( scared) as think I might be loosing waters . WIth dd1 lost in one big go but here seems to be loosing something every time I move NOt a massive amount but enough to be concerned. I have just posted asking for advice. Think is have a massive urge to pee as well.
Dh is on the mend but dd napping and I don't want to go to hosp alone ~ am I being silly ????

Brangelina · 05/11/2008 13:25

OMG poor you Rosa. Do you also have contractions? If it's just waters and small amounts then maybe you could stay put until your mum gets there (she is due today, right?). I think they worry about infection problems if all your waters go but if you don't have a bath/sex/whatever then you should be OK to wait for a while longer.

Sorry, don't have any useful advice. Will hold hands virtually if you like.

Sputnik · 05/11/2008 13:26

Rosa hope you are ok, do you have a gynae or someone you can ring? Sounds like something is hapenning, have you had contractions yet?

Sputnik · 05/11/2008 13:27
Rosa · 05/11/2008 13:40

Thanks guys I am just trying not to panic - but have posted on 3 threads !!! Mum at LGW and I could spend £150 and put her on an earlier flight. I am sure if and when my gyne answers _ I know he was on night duty last night as I saw him yest in hosp he will say go to hosp for check - I don't want to go alone. My best mate is in N York , others all have children Dh needs to stay with dd Oh I hate being here at times like this.

Brangelina · 05/11/2008 13:45

I'd spend that extra £150 to get your mum out earlier, if only to put your mind at rest. You may be OK for hours, but you don't need to be panicking. Did you have a really fast labour last time? How sick is your DH? Could you not wait for your DD to wake up and you all go together to the hosp?

Rosa · 05/11/2008 13:48

Yes and no - last time waters broke and then nothing happened until next day - they kept me in . I was seen at 6.30 am and all was quiet then at 8.20 contractions started mega slow and then went like a rocket and dd born at 10.30 am !!!!

Brangelina · 05/11/2008 13:51

Blimey.

What time does the earlier flight get in? Would your DH not be able to take you and DD to the hospital then take DD back to grandma when she arrives? If your waters have gone they'll def keep you in.

I don't know how practical that is, just trying to find a solution.

Sputnik · 05/11/2008 14:04

I think as long as you're not having contractions then you are ok up to a day or 2 after your waters going, but I'm not 100% sure on that.
If you go in now you risk being kept in then nothing happening. Hope you can get through to your doc soon.
And your DH better get his act tgether recovery-wise

Rosa · 05/11/2008 14:08

18.50 against 21.05.....Grandma not hearing cellulare ......
Am going to try sala parto now and see what they say - keep getting huge urge to pee have been 3 times between posting. I am going to be brave and go sola - Am being stupid sitting here and flapping I should go and be checked to get peace of mind and if they keep me in then somebody will have to bring my bag down . Dh and dd will have to cope - but if I do go into labour etc then I want him with me !!!!!!!!!! Hell they can always say silly english person vai a casa vero ???

Sputnik · 05/11/2008 14:09

Rosa, have to go and get DD from school now, just sip that camomilla, ok?

Sputnik · 05/11/2008 14:11

If you're going in then in bocca al lupo Rosa, take care

Brangelina · 05/11/2008 14:15

Aah, I know all about grandmas not hearing cellulari, it must be a common affliction....

Can you not leave DD with your SIL just this once? Does she have any playmates where you can leave her until your mum arrives? It's a bit of a tall order but it's not every day you go into labour. Tis a bummer not having relatives or good friends at hand.

How will you get to hospital? Is it far? Once you go you almost definitely will be made to stay if it is your waters that have gone and like Sputnik says it may be hours before anything else happens.

[hopeful emoticon] could it be you're weeing yourself, that babe is sitting on your bladder and making you leak? Maybe it's not your waters after all?

Brangelina · 05/11/2008 14:17

In bocca al lupo from me too if you're off.

francagoestohollywood · 05/11/2008 15:47

Oh dear, what have I missed !

Hope everything goes smoothly for dear rosa (makes rosa a glass of vin brule', as suggested by my swedish midwife... ).

I'm very tempted to text her, what do you think?
