Ciao, hello, welcome!

OP posts:

Franca storm and a half last night crikey - today cool wind , blue skies with a bit of cloud but acqua alta coming up. If its stays like this for your weekend it will be lovely - you just need to hide in a bar for the acqua alta bit or get to the Accademia / palazzo Grassi before it comes up.
DD I think better well I hope she woke 5 times last night - has no febbre , no obvious symptoms so she is off at nursery I hope I have done the right thing!

happychappy · 30/10/2008 09:33

The bread after a day you can use a weapon!! Yes it is nice with oil.
My kids love the rain, They have old clothes to go and play in the field with. They get changed and warm in the house. We've got some great wellie with faces on the front. Kids love them.

Went to school today to teach and had only 2 students. Even my students are on strike. I was sooooo unhappy!

What are you all up to over All Saints. For us more olive picking, Hope the weather stayes good.

francagoestohollywood · 30/10/2008 09:43

oh dear, I'm not equipped for acqua alta!!
Wind storms here as well. I hope I can borrow fil's wellies...

Happychappy my dh's family celebrates the giorno dei morti by having big lunch with a side of their extended family (it's huge), main dish is pasta e ceci and in the afternoon they all go to cimitero.

My own family (parents etc) doesn't have traditions whatsoever . My parents are in NYC at the moment.

We've had 2 nights of storms here too, and now it's getting decidedly cooler. I would be tempted to light the fire only all our wood is now wet.

Is there a holiday for i morti this year as it falls on a weekend? I got caught out last year, turning up for school with DD and it was closed. They'd taken a random (to me) extra day off.

Rosa · 30/10/2008 13:40

Franca I have a spare pair they are size 41 though !!!
So much for it staying nice grey clouds are looming again.
No festivities here for us as we have the festa della salute in a few weeks time - mind you we don't have a big meal for that but we do go and light candles - its become a bit of a tradition !Plus we have San Martino on 11th pasta frolla biscuits covered with sweets!
DD survived the morning but was constipated- I guess being off her food she did not eat much veg /fruit . So this pom if it does not rain it is off to Iana to get ripped off to buy a jacket for dd as this morning I couldn't get her jumper on under the one she has and to stock up on veg for soup , veg lasagne etc .
Happy Olive pIcking hope it doesnt rain on you !

Rosa · 30/10/2008 13:41

Rosa · 30/10/2008 17:18

Pippi no presents needed it would just be lovely to meet you !! DD2 should have arrived by then I really hope so and if you bring your dds down they can play ( I know you can cope with an upside down messy house !!!!!!!)
Dh diddn't like the Iana coat so she is squashed into her old one for now! Temp has dropped here a bit .
BRANGELINA where are you ?????????????

Brangelina · 30/10/2008 21:35

Helloooo. Sorry, I've been really busy with work, which was a shock to my system, I can tell you! I'm exhausted, I had DD at home all day because of the strike and was getting really quite frustrated with trying to work with constant MUMMEEEEs every 3 minutes. Little mite didn't even nap and piped up with "chi è" during a conference call. Ah well, am going to park her with a friend tomorrow in Milan and hope to find a wi-fi hotspot so I can get some work done.

So it's San Martino on the 11th? That's DP's birthday and I have no idea what to get him. Why are men hard to buy presents for? I'm fed up with buying him clothes and he's taking up too much space in the wardrobe as it is. I've done all the electronic items and books too. Sigh, it's so hard. And if that wasn't bad enough after only a month it's Xmas and I have to start again with the brain racking. Double sigh.

I didn't think anyone really celebrated i morti. Well, not my family anyway. The 1st of Nov is usually greeted with guilty communal moaning about how one should be going to the cemetary but no one ever does. Maybe the non celebrations is a milanese thing. Those biscuits they make here are pretty foul anyway.

Rosa, if you're short of a coat I bought 3 off UK ebay recently, got on a bit of a roll and couldn't stop myself. None of them could be called "practical" though, except perhaps the purple hairy one, which has become a firm fave with DD. Mind you, she hasn't seen the giraffe print one yet. Isn't it lovely having a girl, I can work out all my suppressed fashionista urges.

Brangelina · 30/10/2008 21:44

Rosa, forgot to mention I had a dream about you last night - not that I actually know what you look like, so it was a dream about your imaginary persona IYSWIM. Oh, and set in Venice, just for that realistic touch. Anyway, in it you were trying to get on a boat in a long empire line red and pale green dress but there was always some American pillock in the way. The bit in the middle I can't remember but at the end you were wearing a white dress with a bodice and were carrying a huge baby (like when you see newborns on TV, who are actually about 6mo), who had pale red hair.

So, by the powers of my premonitions, does this mean you're going to have your DD2 this weekend?

happychappy · 31/10/2008 08:10

Brangelina and Rosa I hope so.

Rosa · 31/10/2008 10:33

Oh Mamma mia - now the red hair worries me and it will worry dh as well !!!! Mind you my sister was born a carrot top and the milkman had red hair as well !!
LOL at American Pillock - we work with groups of Americans so that bit could be right- we have departures sat am and an arrival Sun middayish !!!!
Flowing red and green dress...well now that is a hard one but my wedding dress was sort of a white ish. I hope dd2 stays there a bit longer until I get grandma here then she can come when she wants but also having a baby on morti/santi - poor thing when celebrating a birthday in the future when we should be remembering the dead !
Met Franca this am for coffee- its raining here but hopefully it will get better later on.
Thanks for coat offers - dd also has a purple hairy one - I also got sec hand but it is very thin so she has never worn it. I might sort of wander into a shop and find a complete bargain ( not but don't tell dh !!)

Rosa · 31/10/2008 14:25

Does anybody live near to a universal baby store - Or something that is not Chicco or Prenatal- Am trying to get a universal rain cover for the pram / navetta and I cannot find one here - Can find Inglesina but nobody will confirm that it will fit mine! Found one on Amazon but they don't ship 'baby' goods' Have e mailed a few UK stores to see if they will post overseas. SIze wize should be about 84x 48 - The clippasafe Universal Large is great. Thing is I was so convinced about Amazon that have now left it too late to get it sent to Grandma to get it brought out. And the ones that say delivery in 24hrs doesn't mean to the west country its always 2 and she comes on Wed !!!!
Rosa trots off with selotape to see how she can hold together the old one !!!

hothell · 31/10/2008 20:19

rosa buona fortuna, it is so nice having 2, i am still over the moon, dd is very chilled so far and we are actually full of energy and good humour. havent' read other messages, hope you are all well and getting ready for autumn. halloween here, ds went trick or treating, i feel very happy and blessed.

Brangelina · 31/10/2008 22:21

Rosa, I'm near an Iperbimbo/Tuttobimbo or whatever it's called. I can pop in and have a look if you like, but it won't be until Tuesday/Wednesday as going away this weekend. Otherwise, have you trawled the net for Italian sites? Something like this any good?

Hothell, wonderful to hear from you. I'm glad you're really chilled and things are going so well. Has your DS warmed to his little sister yet? Did you know you were having a girl or was it a surprise?

It's raining here too, absolutely chucking it down. We were supposed to be going castagna picking this weekend but it now doesn't look likely. Well, actually not too , I hate castagne. I'd much rather be picking olives, grapes or just something I find even vaguely commestibile. Am really qite of those of you with your own oil.

Brangelina · 31/10/2008 22:34

Or even this? which looks like the same thing,

In fact, they're all the same. the "universal"" is an Inglesina one. It would be handy if they actually wrote the measurements down as well.

Brangelina · 31/10/2008 22:37

There's also this, though, and it's not Inglesina No measurements there either but you can always contact the seller and ask.

hothell · 01/11/2008 08:31

We knew, and yes ds is warming up. I am besotted!

Rosa · 01/11/2008 11:48

Thanks we have been on the same places - I have in fact sent message to seller asking if it will fit mine - sent measurements as well - Think I will go for the e bay It one if it will fit - it has a zip (!!!!!!!!!!) which I am not keen about but for Eu15 at the end of the day as long as it does its job -
I think the Ingelsina one would fit as well but I need to try and find measurements or find a shop that has mine and the cover and see how we do .
I also contacted a UK e bay seller and asked for measurements and postage costs to Italy !!
Acqua alta today hope Franca did not get wet feet !!!!!
Dd still total poo block 3 hrs of balli / mamma male - no cacca - she is full with prunes, minestrone but a block she is holding it. Even with those oil things she held onto it for another 2 hrs and then did a squit!
Oh and Dh has man flu - temp, aching muscles etc - SO a happy household.
Hot so glad all going well and that you are so happy - may it continue .

Sputnik · 01/11/2008 13:48

Sorry to hear about your poo problems Rosa, hope they sort themselves out soon.

Daisy, my mate from PN thread, had her baby last night, can't be long for you now!

Rosa · 01/11/2008 15:41

I saw about Daisy - I joined the thread and am sticking at it - but its not as chummy as this one to be honest. However could be good for the future when babies all go through the same stages etc. Am about to do a seperate post on dd poo problem as it is really getting to me now - woke form her nap and within 3 mins its started up again. But she is refusing to let go of it...

gio71 · 01/11/2008 19:05

hope poo situation gets sorted Rosa. Brangeina I sympathise working at home with dc, i have ds at home in the afternoons and it is challenging!!
My parents just gone back to UK after a lovely week here, am feeling a bit . Wont be seeing them til feb now and seems a long way off... ds keeps looking for them. He's just been on the balcony where my Dad would retire for a smoke and was most upset to find Grandad wasn't there as he'd obviously decided that was where he was hiding

Rosa · 01/11/2008 19:58

Gio I know when parents go it is like a big hole !!
Poo situation is getting worse - she ate dinner we put her back on potty and the she said no no and 30 secs later she did it in her pants - terrible tears etc .
Just don't know what to do and no advice yet on thread that I started ...
I feel for you working FT at home - I have enough trouble doing dh accounts and other stuff and thats only about 5 hrs a week. Am behind and have not got bills done but it seems to have been forgotten that I am 38 weeks pg ..MInd you it seems to have been forgotten since week 1 !!! ( feeling sorry for myself here !)
