I just wanted to say I love Uwila and her straight talking honesty. If you don't like butt out! If you do, join this thread in praise of her.

no Edinburgh is Auld Reekie

Toothache · 25/02/2005 13:07

RTKM - For some reason although it's part of Scottish dialect it's still viewed as slang. Well around here it is.... so we are encouraged as children to speka 'properly'! But then that's all out the windy when you get a bit aulder.

My Orcadian ex-boss used to day he hated visiting friends in Edinburgh ("down south") because they always opened the door with the saluation, "Ye'll have had yer tea". Or maybe they just did that to him.
It's old, Toothache . From The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie I think...

RTKangaMummy · 25/02/2005 13:09

so is AYE for "common" speech

Like Yeah rather than Yes ?

Or what my nephews say EEAR OR URGH [grunt, which I can't spell]

RTKangaMummy · 25/02/2005 13:11

Don't this thread has anything to do with Uwila anymore Socci. She hasn't even posted on it!

It was a bit of a naff thread to start in the 1st place.... but hey, we've detracted it from the subject well have we not?

You know what this reminds me of? Sitting in a classroom when I was about 13, and other girls passing around a note that you had to sign if you had any chance of being accepted by the in-crowd - "Sign here if you love the Bay City Rollers/Osmonds/David Cassidy", and you were treated like a leper if you didn't sign it. What a shame that people really seem to think that they and the people they chat with are somehow more important than the rest of us. It would be nice if some of these posters actually bothered to come away from their cosy little haven and speak to us mere mortals every now and then, they'd realise that MN is actually quite a supportive little community in its own right.

Fimbo · 25/02/2005 18:52

Haven't read all this thread, but have cottoned on to the Scottish dilect bit. Where I am from originally they say David as DaviT. Also we have an Inging Bridie which is a meat pie with onion. Hope Nailpolish comes on soon as her and I are from the same area and she will probably remember a lot more.

RTKangaMummy · 25/02/2005 18:57

WWB

Well said, You have worded it so well.

I notice that not many are here saying how wonderful she is.

I declined the invitation to join her supporters

So I suppose I should butt out

Shouldn't I

RTKangaMummy · 25/02/2005 19:07

Inging Bridie

How do you pronounce that?

So is it meat and onion pie?

expatinscotland · 25/02/2005 20:19

Well said, WWB

Toothache · 25/02/2005 20:50

WWB - Showin yer age there eh? David Cassidy?? Isn't he a TV Chef?

Cannae quite beleieeeeeeve this thread is still goin, but I'm fair chuffed aboot that, coz I'm havin a bevvy and fancied a laugh!

expatinscotland · 25/02/2005 20:52

Same here, Toothache. Heehee.

Toothache · 25/02/2005 20:54

Wonder is Uwila has seen this yet... bet she wasn't too pleased about it being started! I wouldn't have been. I've had many a flounce.... and a "Come back M2T" thread was never popular.

RTKangaMummy · 25/02/2005 20:56

IMHO I think this is very funny too

I know I shouldn't be here and that I should butt out

But hey

I am allowed to post where I like aren't I
