I just wanted to say I love Uwila and her straight talking honesty. If you don't like butt out! If you do, join this thread in praise of her.

seems a bit cliquey to me

Live and let live for goodness sake There have been plenty of "don't go XXX" threads before.

mears · 25/02/2005 12:32

Or here. I'm in Scotland too but it is chankin here Brrrr...

expatinscotland · 25/02/2005 12:33

Aye, lockets, there's many a fine hotel here in Embra. I've not stayed in any, though. Heehee. Stayed in a lovely B&B in Newington once, though. No place like home!

dinosaur · 25/02/2005 12:33

Oh blimey. Now they're lapsing into dialect!!

mears · 25/02/2005 12:33

raining I mean

expatinscotland · 25/02/2005 12:34

Mears it's dreich here the day as well. As my dh says, 'It's BALTIC!'

dinosaur · 25/02/2005 12:34

Oh, you mean it's pishing down!!!

PiccadillyCircus · 25/02/2005 12:34

I meant the starting of it .

of course, the fact I can't understand what is being said is a different matter

mears · 25/02/2005 12:34

LOL

dinosaur · 25/02/2005 12:35

dreich I do understand

my Ulster kinfolk say that

mears · 25/02/2005 12:35

chankin(g) = freezing cold

Toothache · 25/02/2005 12:36

It's offy cald here, but it's no stoatin aff the pavements yet!

expatinscotland · 25/02/2005 12:38

Dreich is just a nasty day. It's also Baltic as in freezing cold or chankin. It's not pishing down the rain or 'chuckin' it', but it looks like it will any minute.

expatinscotland · 25/02/2005 12:40

Dino,
DH has a very, very broad East Coast Scottish accent, and his dad is a Fifer, so there's no end to the dialect he throws out from time to time. Took my poor dad ages to understand dh. My alltime fav is when we were giving the 'windaes' a clean and he said, 'These windaes are mocket.' Or when he told me, 'Don't be so shan.'

dinosaur · 25/02/2005 12:41

Blimey. I'm completely lost now!

TinyGang · 25/02/2005 12:42

Brass monkeys here..this thread has evolved into a weather forcast?!

Btw I'm great too - think we should each have our own 'fan club thread'

expatinscotland · 25/02/2005 12:43

Quite right, Tiny. But I'd like my fans to be of the fan heater variety, it's baltic here.

RTKangaMummy · 25/02/2005 12:46

OOOOOOOOOH Tiny Gang that would be fun

If there are more than 50 members with fan clubs

We would fill up the active convers

What fun !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

JanH · 25/02/2005 12:47

You can change that 50 at the top into a 200 though kanga...

Lucycat · 25/02/2005 12:47

Like the way this thread has turned!!

Us oop north(ish only Manchester!) says it's bloody freezing here, can't feel my fingers, hence any typos! (any excuse )

i'm gonna have a website like britney spears.

JanH · 25/02/2005 12:48

Don't you love Baltic though, lucycat? very expressive (esp the first part) - think I will adopt it - it is Baltic in Lancs today!

RTKangaMummy · 25/02/2005 12:48

Would you have to nominate someone to start one for you if you then do one for them?

Would you have to be invited to join

Or told to butt out if not a fan

What fun
