Property Ladder - anyone see it tonight?

Just had to post something about this programme. I watch it every week, and love the fact that Sarah is always right, and the "amateur" is always wrong. But tonight's programme was a classic - did anyone else think "personality clash"? And did anyone else think that Sarah went out of the way to show that she was right? They don't normally show people viewing the house, and they also seemed determined to show that the estate agents were concerned about the roof.

Great prog - I love it! (yet another one! )

Isn't Talut a Turkish name?

SoupDragon · 18/12/2002 17:17

I must say, he's the only one so far who seems to have had the sense to learn from what he's done. OK he was niaive about doing the building himself etc but he freely admitted this at the end and he seemed the "most likely to succeed" out of all the ones I've seen.

And he was likeable, not a complete a* like some of them have been.

aloha · 18/12/2002 18:45

I thought he was a sweetie. Obviously loaded though. He should have sold, and yes, I agree it was a very masculine flat and I hated the radiators that everyone raved about. Still, a nice bloke who listened to advice for once.

megg · 18/12/2002 20:43

Crunchie I wasn't getting at his colour its just that Asians tend to be more family orientated and look out for each other.

Tinker · 14/01/2003 23:14

I missed the beginning - what exactly did those 2 women do to earn £50k per year each? Did they live together? Woudln't it have made more sense for one to give up or both go p/t (may not have been possible, I realise)?

Didn't like that dark green carpet upstairs, the kitchen didn't feel like part of the house.

Tinker · 14/01/2003 23:16

Oh, and is SB pregnant? She gets very proprietorial (no pun intended) whenever anyone else wants to do property developing full-time. Plus, she always has to nit-pick doesn't she?

emsiewill · 14/01/2003 23:19

Thought tonight's property was rubbish - that kitchen was awful, and how would you stop your kids playing on the kitchen roof? I wondered if SB was pregnant, too, there was one shot of her whoch set me thinking. I, too, would love to know what those 2 women were doing in Swansea to earn £50k (and it was each). Apart from the obvious, that is.

Oh, Emsiewill you are so right about that roof and kids! I never thought of that. Why, oh why don't they LISTEN!! BTW those women didn't live together the marginally less unattractive one (ooh, you bitch Aloha) had a boyfriend she lived with. The one with the 80s poodle perm lived on her own. God knows what they did for a living to earn 50K each in Wales. And they didn't spend much of their money on clothes did they. Short sleeved jackets and Primark style gypsy tops alert. (Why am I so bitchy tonight? Completely sober too). It was so weird in the middle room to look out of the window and see....the kitchen! Just madness. They should have put the kitchen in the back living room and made a family room with french doors onto a little decked area outside. So obvious!

Janeway · 15/01/2003 05:34

If you had to build the kitchen there, you should have done a flat roof with turf or paving stones on it - made it into a usable "patio" area accessed from the garden and new french windows from an upstairs bedroom - you could still put bubble rooflights in it to aid lighting the other rooms.
The workmanship was shocking - they should put themselves into classes for tiling, decoration etc if they're going to continue doing this.

SoupDragon · 15/01/2003 08:07

They were in "sales" or something like that I think.

Agree wholeheartedly about the kitchen & playing on the kitchen roof. They should have shoved some furniture in the house to detract from the less-than-professional decorative finish. And wasn't they guy they sold the garden to meant to build a dry stone wall? He put up a seriously unattractive fence instead! Or was this simply to hide from the camera crew as I thought I saw him gesturing at them to go away at one point.

DH was more obsessed with the size of SBs breasts and the way (in his opinion) the camera kept focussing on them.

The more I watch this program the more I want to have a go at property developing myself.

jasper · 15/01/2003 10:11

It's addictive but it is the same every week with SB bleating about people not following her advice then them making a huge profit.
And she enunciates her sentences in the voice over like all the blokes on Top Gear, with that weird hesitation near the end with the words going up, then a pause, then down at the end of the sentence.

Enid · 15/01/2003 10:24

Poor SB. She looked as rough as hell this week, especially with that massive cold sore on her lip and those TERRIBLE clothes. Trinny and Suzannah need to get hold of her. And a bloody good hairdresser.

Bitchy, moi?

gosh2 · 15/01/2003 10:55

Yes Emsiewell DH and I couldn't believe they earned £50k each, and in Swansea. What DID they do?

somebody tell me, I will be awake for another night wondering!

sis · 15/01/2003 11:24

My sister, dh and I also spent a long time trying work out what exactly they did to earn £50 each - no idea...

JaneyT · 15/01/2003 12:40

It said on the programme that they were 'sales managers' but not the co. they worked for - there was also a comment about returning their flashy company cars !!

Tinker · 15/01/2003 12:55

I just can't work out how they could make a living from this. If they got a mortgage for this, then obviously they couldn't get another without an income. If they paid for it out of savings, they would only have that amount again, plus their profit which would need to be ploughed back into the next project. This house increased in value due to the marker but so will the purchase price of the next one. How do they make a living from it?

Bozza · 15/01/2003 12:57

The finance didn't add up to me either.

janh · 15/01/2003 13:30

Tupperware?

jasper · 15/01/2003 13:34

Kleeneeze?

Scatterbrain · 15/01/2003 13:35

Jasper !!!! Perish the thought !!!

CookieMonster · 15/01/2003 14:18

If they were in sales, then it is likely they're on commission, so I reckon the 50K was a figure they earned once in a good year ... I mean, you only had to look at the clothes and the hairdos and the fact that one lived in a semi (and not a large semi at that - can't remember what the other lived in but nothing flash) to see that they couldn't have been consistently earning that sort of money .... surely?? Or maybe I'm just feeling a complete b*tch today !!
And what about that fireplace they put in?? Looked like a little pimple on that huge wall ...

gosh2 · 15/01/2003 14:27

I have to join in the bitchin'

Yes Cookiemonster the fireplace was a pimple - it looked ridiculous

Anyhow back to them, one of them had a hair "style" that wouldn't look out of place at an 80's party. Sorry I am so London that perhaps that is what goes "on" in Swansea.

That is why I almost choked when SB said 50 - EACH. I thought no way, maybe she said 15 and I didn't hear her right. Anyhow they are so uncultured they could start with a make over. I think it is too big a job for S&T as someone suggested. Anyhow could you imagine S&T in Swansea??!

bells2 · 15/01/2003 15:37

Steady on gosh2, the most stylish woman I know in London hails from Swansea!

SoupDragon · 15/01/2003 15:43

Why did they simply not do the same with the rear fireplace as they did with the front? It would have looked better. Still, I'm sure that fireplace will look fine once it grows up.

Bozza · 15/01/2003 15:48

I think that the fire was basically the product of them running out of money (I'm assuming that it came under the decoration expenditure and every time they overspent they cut the decoration budget) because it was a very small fire with no fire place surrounding it. If they'd put in a fireplace/hearth of some description they might have got away with the fire.
