Property Ladder - anyone see it tonight?

Just had to post something about this programme. I watch it every week, and love the fact that Sarah is always right, and the "amateur" is always wrong. But tonight's programme was a classic - did anyone else think "personality clash"? And did anyone else think that Sarah went out of the way to show that she was right? They don't normally show people viewing the house, and they also seemed determined to show that the estate agents were concerned about the roof.

Great prog - I love it! (yet another one! )

They could have saved more money by not putting it in

gosh2 · 15/01/2003 16:40

did you see them doing the tiling? HA! what a mess.

Chinchilla · 15/01/2003 20:58

Enid - It's a lump, not a cold sore. And do you know how I know??? Because my dh goes on about it ad nauseum EVERY bloody week!!!

Demented · 15/01/2003 21:44

I was watching this thinking "please give me a brick wall to bash my head off of". Why do they never listen!!!

Demented · 15/01/2003 21:47

Oh yes and the house was horrible. It had the potential to be quite nice if they had listed to SB, but of course they didn't. The patio idea was much nicer than the kitchen extention. The green carpet didn't do the place any justice and they had obviously never done any tiling in their lives. Meiow!

SoupDragon · 16/01/2003 10:25

And they STILL made money!!

cerys · 18/01/2003 10:40

Being a Swansea girl myself, I would like to point out that 80s perms are not the norm here and that there are many stylish ladies to be seen, just like any other city! (I personally am neither poodle - permed nor stylish )
But I too would love to know where they work to earn that money! DH and I were fascinated by the whole programme. We have been saying how silly house prices have gone round here and that house went for c55K and it's not even IN Swansea!

Nutjob · 21/01/2003 21:22

Why oh why oh why oh why do these people NEVER listen?!! I drives me mad!!

aloha · 21/01/2003 22:02

Boring couple, boring house, boring, boring... Even SB looked bored tonight.

kkgirl · 21/01/2003 22:15

Oh I loved the house, it had real character, the location being on that corner wasn't too good, but it was lovely.
I would love to have enough money to do that and try to stay on budget and be very businesslike about it

Tinker · 21/01/2003 22:26

Yes, the house was great but it looked so bloody bleak and every shot seemed to have a lorry turning round the corner in front of it. Pub over the road though! Actaully, I've just described where I live! She reminded me of Shirley Williams.

Hilary · 21/01/2003 22:47

I actually know the people who were on tonight - don't worry whoever said they were boring, they aren't friends of mine. I happen to know how stressed the bloke was during filming and doing up the house etc which isn't surprising I suppose.

I did think the house was a dreadful place to retire, 6 bedrooms, 3 floors, no shop or post office in the village etc. Seemed such an ill thought out project. Still, they were pleased with it so I suppose that is something.

Can't understand why no one ever takes SB's ideas on board, she knows what she is talking about!

kkgirl · 21/01/2003 23:03

Yeah and she's very irritating when she's always saying it. Perhaps they could have someone who takes her advice and makes an absolute mint. I'll volunteer if someone will lend me some money!!!!!

Demented · 21/01/2003 23:12

Tinker, it was the potatoes trundling past on the trailer every now and then that amused DH and I. Great house though, although agree I would lift it and put it in another location and very much doubt I would want to retire to a six bedroomed house.

CookieMonster · 22/01/2003 09:26

It seemed to me as if the programme was cut short - it needed another half hour to see the house completed i.e. with the conservatory built and the front garden and wall done.
I thought it was a fabulous house and would have been worth a fortune if it's location hadn't been so odd (stuck on that corner and in the sticks near Scunthorpe (apologies to anyone who lives in Scunthorpe !!!).
Maybe I've got a thing about fireplaces (after last week's pimple on the wall) but I thought that brick fireplace was SO wrong ...

Bozza · 22/01/2003 09:34

kkgirl - I would be more amused if they took her advice and then didn't make a profit because she always seems so smug and "I-told-you-so" ish. But then, I'm just a cow.

aloha · 22/01/2003 10:39

I was rather upset when they took out the beautiful window at the top of the staircase and replaced it with a monstrosity. Also agree about the location, with lorries going right round the house all the time. I bet that in six years time when their weight has taken its toll on their ageing joints, even they will be having second thoughts about living in a six bedroom house with endless staircases and will sell up and downsize - but at least they house will let them buy something smaller and then have some cash for a rental propery as well, hopefully. I just hate UPVC windows, personally, even though I wish our wooden sashes weren't quite so draughty etc.

SoupDragon · 22/01/2003 11:05

I couldn't believe they took that lovely wondow out Things like that really upset me for some reason - it's lasted all that time and some couple take it out on a whim. Sigh.

Anyway, it wasn't very engaging this week - there didn't seem to be a spark. Lovely lovely house - would have loved to get my hands on it - but c**p location.

Maybe we could all club together and do a mumsnet property development. I've got £100 in loose change I've got to take to the bank... anyone else?

miggy · 22/01/2003 14:39

I'm sure SB must be on medication, she always manages to smile and laugh when people dont take a blind bit of notice, or even worse like last night " we have thought about but we know best" type. How did she manage to not attack them with the power tools when they persisted in taking that window out!

Chinchilla · 22/01/2003 20:50

Sorry, but all me and dh could go on about was how they were such an ugly couple! Oh yes, and...WHY DOES NO-ONE EVER LISTEN???

Tinker · 11/03/2003 22:47

Is anyone watching Relocation Relocation? It just doesn't work does it? Too many 'properties' to look at and it's pretty difficult to summon up any interest in such horribly indulgent couples 'worrying' about finding TWO f*ing 'properties' for their £500,000. What was tonight's all about? Looked at some fab rural places and then ended up with a car park about 2 foot from the back door and a noisy road running past!!!!

iota · 11/03/2003 22:52

I've watched this for a few weeks, seemed OK at first, but tonight's was awful. I didn't like the people at all.
Did you see the one where the couple were expecting a baby, but wanted a pied a terre in B'ham to have a city-based social life at weekends - boy have they got a shock coming.

emsiewill · 11/03/2003 22:53

I agree Tinker - thought that Phil & Kirsty took great pleasure tonight in making it plain how much the country property that they ended up buying didn't fit the criteria they were given at all. And as for trying to buy something in Clapham for £180K. I know I don't live in London (thank goodness), but even I know that you would be lucky to buy a kennel in Clapham for that kind of money.
Did anyone else feel a little bit pleased when they didn't get the chapel?
Or am I just mean & nasty?

OP posts:
emsiewill · 11/03/2003 22:54

Oh, and the one last week was awful - why would you agree to go on with it when you had lost your baby?

Tinker · 11/03/2003 23:02

I'm wondering if it's just designed so we can hate them.
