I'm pretty sure speeding on any type of road can increase your chances of an accident.

secur,

what I meant was that I am very careful not to speed even throught the speed limit thing of 40 mph on M25 I set the cruise control to 38 or 39 and have people speeding past me and get really cross with me but I want to be careful after all there are workmen working on the rad on proctected by cones.

I meant that if I did get some points do they still let you hire a car?

mykidsmum · 04/11/2004 12:51

Completely agree anteater. I live in Northants and as a previous poster said we are literally crawling with speed cameras, but in all the wrong places, ie where they will catch people out, not in areas which are built up, schools etc and where boy racers drive dangerously (and get away with it) all the time. Essentially I think drivers should always stick to limits as they are in place for a reason, however the gopvernment use this as a great way of making money and therefore don't use the equipment they have to serve in the best possible way IYGWIM. Anyway rant over just wanted to make my point, by the way I don't drive and am proud of it!

Ronniebaby · 04/11/2004 12:52

Sally Straw - I think you is right, hung drawn and quartered

hercules · 04/11/2004 12:52

But anteater admitted to being guilty. She wanted to know if she could dodge the punishent.

You can certainly still hire a car in Europe, the US and Antigua with 3 speeding points on your license. It also does not necessarily increase your insurance premiums with just one conviction.

I agree that you just have to pay up if caught fairly and squarely though.

I have no problem with people admitting fault and taking the consequences.

hercules · 04/11/2004 12:59

Going too.

Ronniebaby · 04/11/2004 13:00

Ok lets End it now.

Aneater I think you have your answer, there isnt anymore a way of beating it.

Pay the fine, take the points etc.

KM - you also have your answer you can still drive with points.

Yes Secur I know, she did but SHE CANT. So end of.

Or this will be removed!!!

KangaMummy · 04/11/2004 13:01

I think the best policy is NOT to do it in the first place,

thanks for info but I think I will continue to try to drive carefully.

It is getting a bit heated in here for me now.

puddle · 04/11/2004 13:03

Latest research shows that speed cameras have cut road deaths by 35-40%. So are, IMO a good thing.

You'll have a piece of pasta taken from your pasta jar soon, young lady.

hercules · 04/11/2004 13:05

So someone breaks the law, asks how thay can avoid taking the punishment , some of us think that's wrong and say so, so now we're told the thread may be removed.

mykidsmum · 04/11/2004 13:06

I'd be very wary of government ststs on these things, very easily manipulated and road deaths were up last year. IMO just a very good way of the government making a large amount of money x
Anteater, don't worry about the harsh way you have been dealt with, this is just an emotive issue, where I'm sure many of these posters have been at fault at times, just haven't been caught.
