coby · 23/11/2007 17:52

hello all,

Can I ask your opinion???

People keep telling me my children should be modelling. I think they are just being polite but I just stumbled across this thread and thought I'd ask your opinions . I've only got photos of my oldest on my profile right now.... will have to get round to putting DD2 on soon

Thanks to nayone who takes a peek

ellesmum · 23/11/2007 17:57

dancerdeb - your ds is doing really well, lol at the ted baker casting that must have been awful! did your ds do the kids london model book? we didnt get a letter about it so i didnt bother wishing i had now as my dd is due to have her pics updated and its a nightmare for me to get a good pic of her!
hopefully things will pick up in the new year, we joined kids london in august last year and was quiet busy at this time but this year its been really quiet.

betho - your ds is a real cutie, lovely smile! apply to the smaller agencies for him first like bruce and brown, kids london and urban angels. good luck!

BOGI - BIG WAVES!! hows your ds?

bogie · 23/11/2007 18:12

coby your dd is a stunner she would get work imo

ellesmum
he is fine hasn't been very busy for us he had a huggies job about 6 weeks ago but nothing since hows your dd has she been busy?

dancerdeb · 23/11/2007 19:44

I second Bogie, Coby, your dd is lovely, and would definately get an agent, what are you waiting for

coby · 23/11/2007 21:02

Thanks bogie and dancerdeb - I don't know where she gets it from!

Would like a couple more opinions if anyone else doesn't mind looking.

Is there a website somewhere that explains how all the modelling agencies work etc? We are on the Cornwall / Devon border so not sure if that might be a problem if we decided to go ahead.

nittynora · 24/11/2007 05:33

can someone advise please if they know. Got a call from agent yesterday to say we got a job next week and its photographic. They said its 55 an hour plus useage??? anyone know what that is ;please. I just went along with it and didnt want to sound stupid like i didnt know what i was talking about. thanks

Onthebeach · 25/11/2007 15:36

Hi,
Is anyone going to dfs casting on tues?

lyndall · 25/11/2007 18:12

Hi Onthebeach,
No we are not going but good luck! Which agency are you with and how old is your DS / DD? Hope you have a nice day on Tuesday.

Onthebeach · 26/11/2007 08:57

Hi, he is nearly 3 1/2. We are with ts, have had waited nearly a year for something to come up!

julie4travel · 26/11/2007 16:04

hi everyone - noubt for us on casting front

nittynora they will negociate a useage fee for the material ontop of the normal rate, we had one of these last year and it worked out a bit extra, depends on what they are using the pictures for, they could have only gave the set hourly rate so thats good news for you.

lyndall · 29/11/2007 09:38

Wigglesmum, have you been to the UA consultation yet? If so, how did it go and what did it entail?

wigglesmum · 29/11/2007 20:19

Hi Lyndall

We had our 'consultation' this morning and it was a bit of a disaster! (on our part anyway!)

Basically it was a photoshoot and I quickly met Rupert- he gave us some forms to fill in and then we were called through to 'hair and makeup', had a quick chat with the hair and makeup lady (don't know her name) and then photoshoot. Then we left. In the email it said we would have a chat about the modelling industry- that didn't happen. Although I'm beginning to think that maybe other people had that chat but we were so bad they didn't think they needed to bother!

At hair and makeup the lady asked me what DS was called- (what's HER name?). Now he is 'pretty' and gets mistaken for a girl a lot but I had his beautiful wavy hair cut for the first time yesterday to help stop the girl thing! Also I think the haircut wasn't the best thing because it made his face look too round. Then during the shoot- it was a nightmare because as anticipated he didn't want to cooperate and wanted to wander off and look anywhere but the camera. I was signing loudly in an attempt to make him smile. Oh dear! The first lot of photos were v bad and the makeup lady asked the photgrapher how it was going and he grunted! I was mortified! The photographer managed to get a few nice ones with him smiling to the camera second time round but there's no way they'll want us on the books.

How many good shots are there in an average shoot? Is it normal for there to be loads of bad ones? At the SW shoot- we had 4 nice pix.

I'm just so disappointed. I really wanted to DS to join UA- but it looks like it's not to be. Maybe I'll try again for their next intake in May. Might try KL in the meantime. Lyndall you're with them aren't you? Are you going to the UA consultation? Are you happy with KL or do you want to move?

Sorry for the long post. Feel a bit glum. And although DH was there he doesn't really want to chat about it.

lyndall · 29/11/2007 22:07

Wigglesmum, would you mind emailing me? [email protected]
I can then reply to you - too much to write on here!

Onthebeach · 29/11/2007 22:26

wigglesmum, my ds was invited for a consultation this time last year with ua, but we got a no through the post, dont be disheartened if you get a no, I knew of quite a few other people who got invited for consulataion but then got a no, so they definatly dont take on every one they see. However im sure you thought it went a lot worse than it actually did, if they dont have any similar looking children of the same age, you may well get accepted, they must be very interested to see him in the first place.

wigglesmum · 29/11/2007 22:31

Hi Lyndall
Have emailed you

lyndall · 29/11/2007 23:19

Wigglesmum, I have replied!

dancerdeb · 30/11/2007 09:21

Wigglesmum,
Id wait and see, as obviously your emotions were running high as its something you want badly, as onthebeach said you never know, you might see it as a no, but they might see it as a yes!! Also UA aren't the only good agency, and for UA to be interested in your ds so will other agencies.
Do understand how you feel though, its so frustrating because sometimes you want to step in and take over the shoot!!

altin · 30/11/2007 19:08

Wigglesmum:

I'd go along with others who say not to worry about it, you never know how things will work out.

I took my dd to UA last year for this photo shoot and I thought it went really well, but a week later they sent me a letter and said no. Only the day before I got my no I got a yes from Kids London, so you have two very good agencies arriving at different decisions, and my dd has done well with KL. (you could say that's UA's loss)

The only thing that did nark me was this 'consultation' thing. I didn't notice anyone getting the low down on child modelling and what to expect etc. when I was at the UA shoot, so you weren't the only one. It was all in/out v.quick. Thereagain KL don't meet you for a 'consultation' but to be fair they don't pretend (given my experience with UA) that they will. They either take your kids or they don't.

Anyway, good luck and I'm sure things will work out!

dancerdeb · 30/11/2007 20:24

Hi altin,
I thnk what you said was spot on, as KL arent very 'nurturing' but at the same time, they are upfront and straight forward, and I suppose thats the industry. Which takes a little bit of getting used to!
How long have you been with KL? we've been 7 months.

altin · 30/11/2007 20:42

Hi dancerdeb

about a year now with KL. It's been fun. DD has had a few jobs - the Oli catalogue one back in March/April was one she really enjoyed.

Nothing for a few months but we've been told it's very quiet right now. Fingers crossed it gets busy in 08!

dancerdeb · 30/11/2007 21:01

Altin,
How old is your dd, my ds is 6yrs old and I cant complain either as we've been put forward for a few things and done a couple of jobs.
Did you do the modelbook shoot, we did, but have been told that I will have to wait till Jan to see his promo pics.

altin · 30/11/2007 21:19

She's 7, dd.

No photo shoot this year - we didn't get a letter but I wasn't that bothered, tbh. I understand that KL are v. good at getting work with or without modelbook shoot - they've got a v. good client list. We joined just in time for last year's and they came out well. I wasn't sure how she'd hold up next to the other kids at KL as they're all so good looking(!), but we're happy enough.

lyndall · 30/11/2007 23:08

Hi Altin, is your dd still in the model book or do your have to renew each year? How do you know what the KL kids look like - have you seen the web pages? My DS is with them and I haven't a clue how he is represented or even how many other children there are of his age on the books.

altin · 01/12/2007 13:28

Hi Lyndall

Haven't seen the webpages. We got sent by email the pics as proof after we asked them what was going on, and they looked really good. They appeared from Feb onwards this year. I'd suggest that you chase/ask KL around Jan and they'll send you the pics.

I know what all the kids look like because we were given the print version (think KL have stopped that completely now) of the modelbook to have a look at when we went to KL for the shoot last year.
