Today on a summer outing at my son's nursery, a mother who had volunteered to help lit up a cigerette at lunch at a picnic table with all of the kids around. To my delight, one of my friend's sons started yelling "Who is smoking. Is someone smoking? I smell smoke." She babbled some nonsense about grabbing a quick one and put it out.

Right, off to email my son's friend's mum about her wonderful boy.

I want to slap the staff and customers of my local pub. We went in on Sunday afternoon for a drink with dd. The barmaid and a couple of regulars then started having a very loud conversation about a pub being no place for young children, how they can't stand it when someone's child starts crying or screaming and hate it when parents let their children run around the pub. We felt awful as we were the only ones in there with a child and felt that the conversation was being directed at us. We have been there on several occasions with dd and she has always been as good as gold, we have never let her run around the pub, not that she would anyway, and once she starts getting bored, we leave.

Anyway we drank up and left, but now I feel that we should have said something. If they don't want kids in, they shouldn't have a licence for them!

Feeling v grumpy so too many to list but the top ones are:

  1. the lady in the post office whom I paid to check my passport application has sent it off with there being an error; we travel in just under 3 weeks and now may not be able to go

  2. whoever decided that 22 month olds need a separate passport and therefore a passport photograph

  3. ds for waking up at 6am and being a grumpy sod until we got to nursery 3 hours later (there are days when I am so glad that I work...)

  4. too tired and pg to function in brnad new job with lots of people with stupid questions who think that I will do everything for them...

  5. dh's employers and his last minute rota which meant missing the meet-up yesterday (and the hen night on Saturday)

Sorry for being so moany.

Harrysmum - if you're absolutely desparate, you could make a trip to the Glasgow Passport Office and you'll get your passport within a few hours. It'll cost an extra £45 - plus of course your trip down from Aberdeen and your time - but at least you'd get your (well deserved!) holiday.

But first, I would ring the Passport Office help line: you may well find, given the fact that you'd done the "right" thing in getting it checked, plus the fact that you're off on holiday soon (did you put the date on the form?), you'll get it on time anyway. The lead times at the Passport Offices are much improved - and even though it's summer, 3 weeks may be OK.

My brother found out the night before he was due to fly out at 8.30am on a short break to Bilbao that his passport had expired a month earlier. He was at the Passport Office at 8am, seen at 8.30 and had his passport by 12.30. OK he missed his initial flight, and it cost him £180 to organise new flights out at short notice (his wife went on on her own) - but at the end of the day, he really only missed a night, as after spending a night at Stanstead he was on the first flight out to Bilbao (instead of a mid afternoon flight the day before). Silly - but lucky - sod!

A little revenge is good for the soul every now and then.

Afer finishing my weekly shop in the local Sainsburys, I was feeding DS in my car (parked in a parent & child parking space...the rare occasion I actually got one). When an empty airport taxi pulled in beside me and the driver got and sauntered of into the supermarket.

The phone number of the company plus the taxi number was writen in large writing on the side of the car so I phoned them and very politely said ' Please inform the dirver of taxi number whatever that parent and child spaces are in a carpark for a reason and not for his convenience'.

The lady who took the call then agreed with me how annoying and inconsiderate it was and it really annoys her when people do that as she has children. She said she would make sure the boss was informed and the driver is told in no uncertain terms not to do it again.

I then drove of very quickly before the driver appeared again!

Hey - Good for you Eve !!

I hate it when "non mums" park there - round here it's always well-to-do middle aged couples who strut about like they own the supermarket !!

Bs I say !!!

I would like to give a HUGE slap to three absolute imbeciles in a truck today who harrassed me because I wasn't going fast enough for them. They all looked about mid-twenties, you know the type, lots of attitude and no brains. I had my two year-old in the car and they screamed at me because I obviously wasn't going fast enough for them, then they proceeded to drive right up my backside while blaring their horn at me. I got out my mobile phone and waited for them to catch up, hoping that there was some company name written on the side of the truck, so I could ring up and report them... no such luck. It made me furious to think that they could harrass a bl**dy woman with a toddler in the car!!! Like I said - no brains whatsoever.
