Previous thread is HERE

Five years on from my first treatment, the options have pretty much run out.

Please join us for the rest of the journey. Doom and gloom is absolutely banned. There are still laughs and love to share and celebrate.

And now dear Phalanx I have a question for you. A GIN question, and who better, I ask myself, than you lovely lot of folks to answer it.

What actually is pink gin?

I'm reading Alan Bennett's memoirs and he talks about "Russell Harty when he was at Oxford had invited Vivian Lee round for drinks and she had asked for a pink gin. Only having the plain stuff Russell sent a friend out to the nearest off-licence for a bottle of the pink variety." I take it this is supposed to be Grin but I also think one needs to know what actually pink gin is to get the joke Grin

I could google but somehow it feels more fitting and far more fun to ask here Wink

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 28/11/2016 03:31

And Zombie you definitely need someone on TeamZ (or whatever we are going to call your army of helpers) that you can send out for gin, pink or otherwise, whenever the need should arise. Flowers

IamtheZombie · 28/11/2016 06:13

Brian, please me-rail away. That's always been one of the joys of these threads. They're for all of us.

Hearts, I believe Pink Gin is clear gin with a couple of drops of Angostura Bitters added.

Fiderer · 28/11/2016 06:18

Hearts Pink gin is gin with Angostura bitters, they're dark red I think so just a dash turns the gin pink.

Brian I said the same to Z and she told me I was a "silly wurst" and to "witter away" Grin

Ikl I enjoy reading your SCD blog too.

And Zombie good to hear things are moving in the right direction ... and yes to online shopping, you silly wurst. Am Envy because here in flippin' Forrin there is no online grocery shopping. Amazon.de are OK for some staples (though there's little choice and can be pricey) but nothing fresh.

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 28/11/2016 07:25

Not much online shopping here in The Great White North neither Fids but I'm slowly getting used to it.

Mummylin · 28/11/2016 10:27

Good morning all. Zombie I see you were up with the lark today, was that just a bathroom visit or was that up for the day ? Hope you had a much better night now you have more settled innards !
Ikl, thanks , you know how much I enjoy reading your blog. Ps where is next story ???????

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 28/11/2016 18:51

Brian, as you've probably gathered, we're very relaxed about any sort of diarrhoea in Team DBF, so you me-rail away Grin

So pleased to hear you're feeling better Z and have hit on the right "cocktail".
Good plan for online shopping too, persevere with it, the first time is the most difficult.
Extra pleased to see that you had been thinking of roping in some regular help; it won't take much to make a big difference.

Both Angostura bitters and tonic water were added to gin by Brits living in Asia to help ward off the above mentioned digestive problems!
The bitters are antimalarial too.

You're welcome Smile

Allalonenow · 28/11/2016 19:26

Don't fret Brian this thread thrives on me-railment! Smile

I've got a soft spot for Angostura Bitters, due to historical links with the company, and am a massive fan of Pinkers. Wine
I splosh it on food too, especially fish such as skate or scallops.

You've made me want to dig out my Alan Bennett stuff now Hearts.

Pinkers all round! Clincalissimo! Wine Wine Wine

StealthPolarBear · 28/11/2016 19:40

Ugh at gin.
I don't belong here do I? :o

BrianCoxWithBellsOn · 28/11/2016 19:57

Naw..I like it here

Now. I have a gin question.

Until very recently I could not st and tonic water. So I would have gin and lemonade.

Last Christmas, DP bought me a gin and tonic gift set. There were 6 miniature gins and then Fever Tree tonic.

Oh wow. I love Fever Tree tonic. The elderflower one is a particular favourite. Goes without saying that I liked The Gin.

Any it her tonic recommendations?

BrianCoxWithBellsOn · 28/11/2016 19:58

Apols for numerous spelling mistakes and random words. My kindle keeps stalling and I type away without reading before I post. I swear I'm not drunk!

NormHonal · 28/11/2016 20:01

Wine and Gin for you Zombie. Another delurker here.

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 28/11/2016 20:08

Stealth Z prefers whisky or ale.

I love gin but it doesn't love me, I have to stick to pink wine these days.

That lin doesn't imbibe much I don't think, nor Zing

Hearts and Allalone will quaff anything Grin and Ikl is getting her own still!!!

So Phalanx is alcoholically eclectic!

Fiderer · 28/11/2016 20:12

Oi - and me?

LineyReborn · 28/11/2016 20:14

I have a bottle of Grenadine and a bottle of Galliano in, 'just in case'. For twenty years, they've sat on the Sideboard of Doom.

So I'll concoct a Harvey Wallbanger for us, Zombie Wine It's about time.

I remember the dustbin!

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 28/11/2016 20:21

Beer in a big stein for you Fids

Liney my mum still has a bottle of Creme de Menthe that only my DGrandma used to drink. She died in 1994....

LineyReborn · 28/11/2016 20:24

I feel the Zombie Dustbin Ancient Cocktail Bar is open for business tonight Smile

fruitbats · 28/11/2016 20:31

Just slipping in to send good wishes and gin to Zombie Wine

Fiderer · 28/11/2016 20:33

Hearts Will admit German beer is a fine thing, especially a Hefeweizen (wheat beer) on a hot day.

Am also v partial to a gin & tonic. And Jameson whiskey. Luckily despite the lack of online grocery shopping here in Forrin, my local village supermarket stocks both. And cheaper than back home.

Blimey, that's before I mention I live in a wine village. Wine comes out of the taps.

The tea here is awful, what's a girl to do?

Badders123 · 28/11/2016 21:12

I've got amaretto, port and prosecco Wine
Also some Buck's Fizz but I think it might have turned Confused
The stollen and box of biscuits I bought for Xmas last week are um...all gone Blush

LineyReborn · 28/11/2016 21:14

I'm on the Christmas wine. I thought it might last till at least the 1st December.

Nice enough to buy more of, though. Smile

Susiesoap7 · 28/11/2016 21:21

Gin in the bin!!! (Bad experience) can't even smell the stuff now! Lol prefer , Alan Bennett and thora hird, talking heads and vodka, pork pies, sausage rolls.!!!! Lol 😆😀😀

Allalonenow · 28/11/2016 21:44

Well B3 you've cut me to the quick now, saying I will drink anything. I'm incredibly fussy selective. Wouldn't touch lambrusco style or Moet & Chandon with a barge pole, only drink Zubrowka vodka, only Irish whiskey.....
But I'll forgive you... Smile

Reading these last few posts has been like time travel back to the 70s with Russel Harty and Harvey Wallbangers.

Liney You are doing a fine and noble thing by consumer testing all the Christmas treats.

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 28/11/2016 22:41

Sorry Allalone, I was being flippant and thoughtless SadBlush

I only read foodie threads looking for your post which is always there, a cut above the rest, refined and drool inducing Grin

LIney the Galliano ref. took me back to somewhere I wish I'd never been.

I'll do the Tequila based cocktails, I do a mean silk stocking.

Talking Heads takes a lot of beating, was there one called Cream Cracker Under the Sofa? Julie Walters I think.

originalmavis · 28/11/2016 22:48

l once had a night out and drank the entire tequila cocktail menu (takes a bow). And I still managed to catch the last train home and walk the 2 miles back from the station.

Woke up with my knickers in situ and contact lenses in the correct pots.

God knows how...
