Criminy. That really looks like a gin smuggling tunnel!

Allalonenow · 18/04/2016 20:03

Oh my goodness, looks as though it's an old cellar, hope they have made it safe now Zombie.
I was hoping for Roman villa, like the chap in Wiltshire found in his garden!

IamtheZombie · 18/04/2016 20:12

It may be a cellar, All, but not for the current house. This house was built in 1799 on the site of an old manor house which partly burnt down in the 16th C. Those ruins were removed when the current house was built.

Blimey Shock

Hope there's no bodies down there (yet) unless there's a certain exh that you'd like to bury in which case it looks like there's room Grin

Any speculation as to what it might have been? My immediate thought was bomb shelter but that's probably because I now live in what was the most heavily bombed borough of London during WW2. My GPs had an Anderson shelter at the bottom of their garden which they wouldn't let us nosy kids near...

What's the plan?

Fiderer · 18/04/2016 20:35

No it wasn't. You just don't want us getting any credit for the archaeological finds / loot /gin stashes / smugglers' tunnels / pirates' treasures that get found.

You want it all for yourself.

Mummylin · 18/04/2016 20:57

Wow, how exciting and interesting. Obviously used for something illegal !!! There may be a stash of something buried down there. I think Lord Lucan may be hiding out there too !! Do I get the reward ? Grin
Have you got to pay for all thus work Zombie ! The gold coins will cover it !

Allalonenow · 18/04/2016 22:10

Wow! How fab to be part of such an interesting bit of history Zombie.

Perhaps it was burnt down during the Civil War? Have you ever checked out the records for the site at the County Archives Office, or run over the site with a metal detector?
At the very least I think you need to run a geo-phys survey (or maybe I've just watched too much Time Team! Smile ).

FattyNinjaOwl · 18/04/2016 23:08

I love time team. Grin
At least the lovely zombie is keeping us updated. Not like the lady with the victorian safe Hmm

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 18/04/2016 23:49

Haha, I like married's idea!

Have shovel, will travel.

It looks like drainage to me, would make a lovely piscine sauvage Grin

Fiderer · 19/04/2016 19:58

FidGirl here, along with the true reason for the mysterious holes- they're superintelligent moles who are coincidentally also gin swilling pirates.
Hope you're well and don't get attacked by freaky moles with eye patches.

Lots of love, FidGirl

Tardis
IamtheZombie · 19/04/2016 20:09

FidGirl, I am honoured. If it is freaky moles, I'm ready for them!

Much love, many hugs and more kisses from your ZombieGodMotherâ„¢.

Brick laying, gin swilling moles, you may have something important there FidGirl

What was the decision on the hole Z?

IamtheZombie · 19/04/2016 21:05

The hole is now an ex-hole.

NOT that kind of "ex".

It's been filled in, gravel raked back into place and you'd never know it was there.

Mummylin · 19/04/2016 22:34

Fingers crossed all will be ok tomorrow Zombie X

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 19/04/2016 22:54

Oh that must be reassuring.

Will be thinking of you tomorrow.

FattyNinjaOwl · 20/04/2016 09:30

How are you zombie?
And how are the rest of you ginaholics? Grin
I'm meant to be weaning DS2 off the dummy, put his big sister is determined to let him keep it

Aw, Owl (can't call you Fatty) - makes me nostalgic for the baby years, lovely small Owl there.

Mind you I think teenagers are toddlers in larger bodies & with mobile phone bills.

FattyNinjaOwl · 20/04/2016 10:37

Teenagers are definitely giant toddlers Grin I have a 14 year old brother and he's pretty much on the same wavelength as DD who's 2. Can be really kind and helpful, but prone to tantrum if things don't go their way.

Allalonenow · 20/04/2016 11:24

Hope all goes well for you today Zombie, thinking of you Thanks

What a lovely photo Owl, and what a fab hairdo your DD has! Star
