YG, thanks for this - we did exactly as you said when I was pg with DD. QUickie in the reg office, lunch in the pub, 5 of us in all. It was lovely and we were very happy. Cost all in about £300.

I have been off MN for a while but have been thinking of you and hoping things are going OK. You are an incredible woman and have enormous strength and dignity. Take care XXXXX

A bump for the most single best bit of advice ever to appear on MN..
Flip this thread ladies and read.
We may well know someone that could do with knowing this...
Well done yorkiegirl, wish I knew you in rl yorkie, you are a fantastic person to think of others...

mrsnoah · 22/11/2006 22:33

Yorkie, good advice. Hope things are ok for you and yours.

CHUNKYMUNKEY · 25/11/2006 00:02

Have just read this thread. Yorkie girl thanks for posting your advice. I would never have known this info. My dp and myself after reading this are now going to get married to protect ourselves and our dd. Thank you.

guyFAwkesreQuiem · 08/11/2008 16:06

have just linked to this on another thread and thought it deserved a bump as many current MMN'ers won't have seen it before.

AuntyVi · 09/11/2008 10:09

Thanks YG and others, some great advice here. I wish this sort of information could be put "out there" more - even included in all the stuff you get given when you get pregnant. It would help so many people if in between all the information about pregnancy, labour etc there were a few pages on how to make sure your family (whether partners or children) are provided for if anything bad happens - wills, marriage, benefits and how to get advice... Of course it's not only needed for people with kids, but that would be one good opportunity to get the information out and parents probably need it more than anyone.
Wonder if MN could put some of this info on their homepage too, either permanently or at least as tip of the day? - not sure how to suggest that?

Just to say that our wedding cost about £100 altogether and I never even changed my name. It was an excuse for v. nice liitle party in the garden, too. Although we did it for practical reasons, we did actually feel quite special and different for a couple of weeks. Gone back to normal now and tend to forget we have done it! It is NOT taumatic.
