What pointless one woman/man boycott are you staging?

Here's my one woman boycotts.

I have boycotted Wadebridge because they elected a total wanker to the town council who said that disabled children should be culled to save money. I rarely visit Wadebridge anyway.

I have also boycotted Dartington Hall Estate for unreasonable parking fines. I park outside the grounds. Nobody cares.

And lego minifigures as DS2 always ends up with a frigging princess or mermaid or something and we have to deal with the tears. I'm sure their sales figures are unaffected.

None of my boycotts will make any difference whatsoever. I realise this.

So what are your pointless boycotts?

White Stuff.

I hate their shitey flimsy mimsy stuff anyway but my friend encouraged me to come along into a store with the promise of a free gift, so long as I wore a tea cosy on my head.

Well 'who doesn't love a free gift' thought I, naively, fucking tea cosy in situ.

Tea bag, the bastards gave me a free tea bag.

Well fuck you very much White Stuff. You can stick your Boden-lite wares up your arse. I'll never enter your stores again.

IrenetheQuaint · 25/09/2014 16:38

Starbucks, for serving me the world's nastiest latte in about 2003. It was a massive vat of lukewarm milk with a brown dribble of coffee right at the bottom. Ugh.

Yorkie, for appalling sexist marketing. This one actually hurts as I like Yorkies.

ChasedByBees · 25/09/2014 16:39

Stagecoach buses. I had booked a bus from one town to another but cancelled it as I could no longer afford it and needed the money for food.

I didn't hear from them about my refund so I rang and they had a record of my letter arriving but they'd lost it and told me there was nothing they could do.

I was only 17 and didn't know how to take it further.

It was £26 and ~ 20 years ago so I think that classes a pointless now, particularly as a company they own so many other things that I do use.

Lovecat · 25/09/2014 16:41

I boycott Giraffe and have done ever since I complained about their "Pimp Up Your Pizza" promotion, and the PR woman replied saying that as she was a woman and didn't find it offensive or inappropriate in a 'family' restaurant, I obviously had no sense of humour or youthspeak. Never been back and I used to spend £££ there. They don't care.

Also one of the 2 Costas in our town after the woman on the till let me get 2 words of my order out of my mouth before turning away to chat animatedly to the man standing behind/to the side of me in the queue. I walked off and told her she was "astonishingly rude" when she came running after me to apologise. Now if I want coffee (there are no other coffee shops in our town centre apart from M&S's cafe which is always rammo with pensioners table-hogging) I have to walk 10 mins out of my way to the other branch of Costa. Where the staff have some manners. . As I'm still buying their coffee I doubt very much they give 2 hoots about my branch preference, but having flounced I cannot go back...

I boycott Tesco because of Shirley Porter, who I don't even think is part of them anymore, but I still hold a grudge...

I also boycott the Sun because of Hillsborough - that's NOT a pointless boycott and it warms my heart the more their sales drop :o

Lovecat · 25/09/2014 16:42

Oh, and after that mammoth rant, I forgot to say that I am happy to boycott Wadebridge for you, OP. I have only ever cycled past it when doing the Camel Trail, but I will happily stick my nose in the air and sniff disgustedly when I do so in future :o

0898 · 25/09/2014 16:43

I have boycotted Company magazine since a scaremongering article about the pill in about 1992. Are they even going anymore? (If not my work is done )

nevergoogle · 25/09/2014 16:44

yeah, i miss the camel trail. can i still do the camel trail and boycott wadebridge?

The American Dry Cleaning Company for trying to charge me £25 to stitch up 5 inches of hem that had fallen down.

They are devastated.

ConkerTime · 25/09/2014 16:47

Rupert Murdoch. Ryanair. Starbucks. My local shopkeeper who is a friend of Alex Salmond, only I did have to go in recently as my alternate supply lines haven't yet been fully thought out.

I'll add Wadebridge.

Stinkle · 25/09/2014 16:47

Amazon - they fucked up a delivery and made my DD cry. It's actually a pain in the arse as I live in the back end of beyond so Amazon was my go to for just about anything and everything. It's had more of an impact on me than them

Tesco - my friend worked there and they treated her really badly. Tesco is bloody miles away and I never shop in there anyway

PragmaticWench · 25/09/2014 16:48

My mother is a school governor and they've changed the head teacher title to Principal. I vehemently told her that I would be boycotting any senior school for my child where the head was called a Principal, as it's American tosh. My daughter isn't even two yet, I don't think my protest is having much impact. Grin

Quangle · 25/09/2014 16:48

Am Shock at the "Pimp up your pizza" thing from Giraffe. What were they thinking?

On a similar theme, I sort of boycott WH Smith for stocking playboy stationery in the children's pencil cases section and for sending me a snotty letter when I wrote to complain. But actually I don't need to boycott them because they are so crap these days there is nothing in there that I want to buy anyway. And no I don't want half a kilo of toblerone for half price with my newspaper, thank you.

BitchPeas · 25/09/2014 16:48

British gas for the twat in their call centre who argued with me about snowfall then hung up on me. And for the twat meter reader who whacked on my door at 8:30 in the morning, after I had been on nights and just got to sleep, he didn't knock normally just once or twice, he whacked the glass with full force for a good 10 minutes like he was the police or something. Arsehole.

They keep calling me about getting a smart meter fitted. Then can fuck off!!

nevergoogle · 25/09/2014 16:50

Oh er, just checked, and the wanker councillor has since died.

The people of wadebridge still elected him 'twice' though. (not after he died, after he made horrible comments) That's nuts. Hmm, i wonder if he was ill and that's why he was being awful. Confused

I've been boycotting Tesco for years, for treating their customers like senseless idiots. I thought I was on my own until I saw the news the other morning...

Branleuse · 25/09/2014 16:54

Ryanair as they spent the whole journey trying to sell scratchcards over the tannoy, and then the fucking cabin crew trolly dolly bloke barged into my aisle seat 3 times during my flight to malta. I wont go with them again.

Spean Bridge, because my dad used to take me on hitchhiking holidays as a child, and we got stuck there twice for several hours, so i think its bad luck

Branleuse · 25/09/2014 16:55

and anything rupert murdoch

ClaudetteWyms · 25/09/2014 16:56

I also boycott John Lewis for their appallingly shit customer service, on a total of three occasions - delivering a tv, measuring for curtains, and trying to get out of refunding me for some clothing returns. It is difficult sometimes as they sell a good range of stuff, but I am coping...

I also boycott Ocado no matter how many offers they send me, again for hideous customer service in the past. Rancid butter with refund refused anyone?

They're both still in business, don't think they've noticed!

ravenAK · 25/09/2014 16:57

Oh & a Nescafe mug which we have mysteriously acquired at some point over the years. Because Nestle. If dh makes me a brew in it I pour it into a different cup.

No, no idea why I don't just chuck it out, thinking about it.

ClaudetteWyms · 25/09/2014 16:57

Oh yes I also boycott Ryanair and Asda, after all the horrific stories I've heard on here. Have never flown on them/shopped there before anyway...

Office. They sent me a pair of shoes that had each shoe a different size, then denied it when I contacted them. sent them a pic, they agreed to accept a return, then denied they'd ever received them back. Grudgingly paid up a month later after I'd sent them proof of postage and a copy of the signature of receipt!

nevergoogle · 25/09/2014 17:04

Don't get me started on Renault, we're £600 down so far and still not fixed.

Space NK - the posh beauty store - because they treated my sister appallingly when she worked there.
