What pointless one woman/man boycott are you staging?

Here's my one woman boycotts.

I have boycotted Wadebridge because they elected a total wanker to the town council who said that disabled children should be culled to save money. I rarely visit Wadebridge anyway.

I have also boycotted Dartington Hall Estate for unreasonable parking fines. I park outside the grounds. Nobody cares.

And lego minifigures as DS2 always ends up with a frigging princess or mermaid or something and we have to deal with the tears. I'm sure their sales figures are unaffected.

None of my boycotts will make any difference whatsoever. I realise this.

So what are your pointless boycotts?

Minmooch, I think I love you!

I boycott an Indian restaurant in Swindon which gave me food poisoning in 1997. Luckily I haven't returned to Swindon since, so it has not been too onerous for me.

mampam, the boycott of wadebridge has been called off as the offending councillor died. however the people who voted him back into the council after his awful opinions were made public, well they are all still there. i haven't decided if my boycott is off for that reason.

and the dartington parking charges makes my blood boil. they treat the parents from dartington school horrendously and throw £75 parking fines around. not as community spirited as they'd like to make out they are.

I boycott Greggs cos my bil works for a local bakery. Judging by the queue snaking out of the door, they haven't noticed I don't go in there!

Flybe, for several years now. They used to offer complimentary drinks on their flights, changed it without me realising and I travelled fairly regularly at the time. The Air stewardess asked me if I would like a drink I said yes. She opened the mini diet coke can and then asked me to pay. I refused to pay as she hadn't asked if I wanted to BUY a drink and didn't mention they were now charging for things that had previously been complimentary.

I did get to keep the drink though Grin

Monsanto

We don't hear much about them here but they are trying to get the world to eat their GM food they are also putting third world farmers into penury because if you grow their crop, you cannot save any seed, you have to BUY your next year's seed from the only supplier who is...yes you guessed, the frankenfood fallacy-mongers themselves.

"March Against Monsanto On May 24, 2014 a protest was held in over 400 countries with an estimated 2 million people attending worldwide ."
I've never seen this in our popular press. www.march-against-monsanto.com/

If I was a teen now, I'd train to get the right qualifications that with drive and ambition would see me become a partner in their firm. Then I'd amass as much evidence of dirty deeds as i could, then take the whole company apart piece by piece, by doing nothing else but telling the world the truth Grin

Tesco. I used to work at a law firm they instructed. I REALLY disliked what I saw of their business approach - flouting planning rules and licensing laws, taking an anti competitive stance, structuring v complex tax avoidance schemes and avoiding millions in tax. They haven't had a penny out of me since 2006.

My boycott is working too, judging by their figures. I boycott them to the extent that when my old firm gave us Tesco gift vouchers as a Christmas bonus, I gave all my vouchers to the tramp who begged outside the Tesco Metro in the City. I do still worry that he bought 2 litres of vodka and died as a result of me refusing to spend even free money there.

I won't watch a Woody Allen film or a Polanski fil again.

I refuse to listen to that Chris Evans or Steve Wright on Radio 2. They are prize berks.

Nestlé.

Our corner shop cos it's filthy and the owners are surly.

Tesco's and Sainsbury's for selling substandard products and service for inflated prices and bitching when they only make 1bn per quarter.

I'm sure there's lots more that I boycott without even thinking about it.

Trebor softmints for disregarding standard accepted colour coding in their packaging. I once bought a packet of spearmint softmints or so I thought, having picked up the pale green packet instead of the dark blue packet. Well, jumping Jesus on a pogo stick when I put the little bugger in my mouth if it wasn't a bloody peppermint softmint. I am not accustomed to the hard stuff in the world of mints and it did not improve my day.

Having undertook my own survey of flashing the packet in front of everyone I met for the rest of the day & receiving affirmation that it should be a packet of spearmint rather than peppermint sweets, I wrote them a strongly worded but jovial complaint letter.

They responded & sent me a £5 gift voucher, however their response lacked a jocular tone and more or less said, 'well that's the way we've always done it'. Truth be told, I don't even think they considered changing all their packaging for me. I was disappointed & in the last 15 years not a softmint has passed my lips since. All this talking of them makes me want one but I will continue to resist.

A caravan park because the manager was unbelievably rude to my mum. I don't suppose they've noticed!

CheerfulYank · 02/10/2014 00:00

Winky I won't watch Polanski (bloody rapist coward) or Allen either (I believe her).

ArcheryAnnie · 02/10/2014 00:22

Alicebannedit I, too, boycott Giraffe. I used to be a semi-regular with my kid, but then they fed me something i was allergic to, even though I had asked, and the waiter had agreed, that it would be left out of my drink, I noticed, and asked for the bill so I could leave instantly to get home (knowing I'd have to spend a further £20 on a taxi as the bus wouldn't cut it before the reaction kicked in). Instead of the bill I got a manager coming over and explaining, patronisingly and slowly, that I'd have to pay for the dishes I'd ordered but which had not yet been served. I had been expecting to pay, and not asked otherwise, so that pissed me off - but I think if you have poisoned a customer, however unwittingly, then you probably shouldn't be quite so keen on charging them for the experience. I was desperate to leave, so was just saying "yes" Sure! Anything! Whatever!" to what the manager was saying, paid, and then dragged my poor, unfed child home pronto, where I could be sick, in pain, and prone in peace.

I emailed Giraffe afterwards, pointing out the managers priorities were a bit off, and never heard nothing back.

RonaldMcDonald · 02/10/2014 00:43

Also,Polanski and Allen

ArcheryAnnie · 02/10/2014 13:11

This one is going to hurt, but decided this morning that the Rolling Stones are off my menu. I'd read an article about how Mandy Smith is now (Wyman started "dating" her when she was 13 and he was 47), and she's still messed up. I had known about this for an age, but only in a distant way. That article really brought it home to me, what he'd done.

I've also once been to Sticky Fingers, the west London burger joint he owns. Never again.

HeeHiles · 02/10/2014 13:50

I remember all that Archery - it was horrible! She was just a child Sad
