What pointless one woman/man boycott are you staging?

Here's my one woman boycotts.

I have boycotted Wadebridge because they elected a total wanker to the town council who said that disabled children should be culled to save money. I rarely visit Wadebridge anyway.

I have also boycotted Dartington Hall Estate for unreasonable parking fines. I park outside the grounds. Nobody cares.

And lego minifigures as DS2 always ends up with a frigging princess or mermaid or something and we have to deal with the tears. I'm sure their sales figures are unaffected.

None of my boycotts will make any difference whatsoever. I realise this.

So what are your pointless boycotts?

Burgh island hotel for not paying me for a months work when I was a student. Gits. It was ten years ago and I still get the rage whenever I get within fifty miles of the place.

SaskiaRembrandtWasFramed · 25/09/2014 18:03

Oh yes, MacDonalds too. I went to one in about 1995 and had an absolutely revolting veggie burger. It was the most disgusting thing I've ever eaten. Also, it annoys me when people call it MaccyDs. So I never go there.

Ohwhatfuckeryisthis · 25/09/2014 18:06

Yeah Wadebridge-you can just do one! where is it?

Playdoughcaterpillar · 25/09/2014 18:06

Yes to Leicester forest east because a prawn sandwich from there gave me a tummy ache and also because it's horrid.

Lookslikeimstuckhere · 25/09/2014 18:06

The local Children's Centre. The staff annoy me and so do the parents

NCT groups. I'm sure there are lots of lovely groups but they all just seem like such bitchy cliques from everyone I've known who has been part of one (sorry).

Stoke Mandeville hospital.

I have also boycotted John Lewis because they changed mine around and I don't like it. But I do lift the boycott if I need something. Which I think is fair enough, it's the thought that counts.

kickassangel · 25/09/2014 18:10

Using any kind of title. I just use first name last name. I don't think that anyone has even noticed yet.

Most ineffective boycott ever.

ArcheryAnnie · 25/09/2014 18:10

I boycott Cocoyo coconut milk yoghurt because they are sold in 125g pots, and yet the nutrition information on the side for a single serving is for 100g. I asked why and they said that since it's quite rich, some people won't want an entire pot.

Who in the world eats 4/5 of an individual pot of yoghurt? It's just so that when you do a quick check, it looks like it's lower calorie. It's bullshit and dishonest.

I realise this is the most petty, pointless boycott in the entire history of consumer action, but their weasel words made me - disproportionally, I completely acknowledge - annoyed.

SpaghettiMeatballs · 25/09/2014 18:11

Tunip I like to think I helped to cause Tesco's current situation as I have refused to step foot in there since 2011.

In fact they were selling an Emma Bridgewater bag for MacMillan and a friend turned up with one saying 'I know you won't shop in Tesco so I bought this for you'. Obviously I took the bag!

At work I have to cross the road to go to Sainsburys Local rather than Tesco Express. I take my boycott seriously.

MaryWestmacott · 25/09/2014 18:11

I boycott Ryanair, because they once sent my back and forth to Ireland 4 times, before making me to go to Gatwick if I wanted it back.

A really nice American Diner near us for bad service. (this is a bad one in the summer as it has an amazing play area)

I was boycotting the nice organic butchers in our town as they were patronising to me once and a bit leary. They might have offended quite a few locals as they closed recently complaining bitterly that the local area aren't prepared to pay for quality meat, although the other very nice posh and slightly more expensive butchers further out of the town centre (so gets less passing traffic and requires a special trip to get to for most people) is going strong, advertising for Christmas staff, have queues out of the door most Saturday mornings... They are also very nice, great service, know their produce, and don't offend their customers. Sometimes, local boycotts work!

Branleuse · 25/09/2014 18:12

those cocoyo yoghurts are NOT worth the £2.50 per pot that my friend told me they were, and I also noticed the serving size cheat thing

ClaraM · 25/09/2014 18:17

British Gas for complete incompetence and trying to take me to court over a bill I had paid!! According to the debt collectors, I was not alone. Will never use them again.

ArcheryAnnie · 25/09/2014 18:19

Branleuse

AmandaTanen · 25/09/2014 18:20

I boycott BHS after a sales assistant selling £100 worth of makeup for a fiver shouted at me, when I said no thanks to her offer of a makeover.

Our local community centre after one of the play workers made me feel like a terrible mum for not being able to get my 2 year old to sit in a circle singing peter rabbit songs, as she wanted to play on the equipment during mini gym time!

Archfarchnad · 25/09/2014 18:25

We have been boycotting Barilla pasta for the last year because of the chairman's homophobia. He's tried to backtrack since then and set up some sort of diversity committee but it's clearly just a charade.

I wouldn't now go on a Ryanair flight if you paid me, but that's less of a political boycott and more recognition that they're a steaming pile of shite.

soaccidentprone · 25/09/2014 18:27

Maplins - bought an external hard drive for the PC. 2 weeks later it stopped working. I took it back, they wanted to send it away for testing rather than replace or refund.

I was in there a good 1/2 hr before they eventually relented and replaced it. Fuckers.

Whiskers cat food. Someone once told me eons ago it contains msg. I have no idea whether this true or not, but I have not bought it since then (maybe 20 years ago)!

My local bike shop. I once went in, they weren't busy. I was ignored by the staff for the whole time I was in there.

RJnomore · 25/09/2014 18:28

France.

I am boycotting France.

When dd1 was two the bloody French air traffic controllers went on last minute strike the night before we were due to fly out to christmas at eurodisney.

Ended up in st Andrews at the aquarium as everything in uk is shut late November. You try telling a two year old they aren't going to see mickey mouse anymore but can pet a stingray instead.

So for 13 years I have boycotted France and all things French

Viviennemary · 25/09/2014 18:31

I have been boycotting the Sun for years. I think I have twice looked through one in a cafe in all that time. Cheap airlines because I'd rather stay at home. Boat trips abroad because I don't trust their health and safety.

MehsMum · 25/09/2014 18:33

Another keen boycotter of Tesco's here. I walk five mins to another supermarket rather than use the Tesco round the corner because they are shocking neighbours: it took a sit-down protest to stop them sending in about a dozen huge lorries each day and blocking the street for 10 mins each time.

Then they had the nerve to complain that the local council said their refrigeration unit was too loud and they had to change it. I haven't shopped in Tesco's for eight years.

The local staff are fine. The senior management (as recent events seem to be showing) believe in sharp practice all the way.

EvilRingahBitch · 25/09/2014 18:33

I used to shop in the little independent stationers on the High Street because you should support small independent shops obvs.

Then one day they put up a huge rant on their door in intermittent CAPSLOCK about the impact on local shopkeepers of High St parking restrictions [fair enough] and the fact that so many traffic wardens were African [not fine] and concluded by comparing their position to that of the "English" army at Rourke's Drift [as a Welshwoman that was the last straw].

They closed shortly after, my boycott may have been the last straw.

I also boycott an entire European country because I used to work in a UK branch of one of their largest companies, and they screwed us on our redundancy pay off when they closed down the branch.

EvilRingahBitch · 25/09/2014 18:35

DH boycotts BHS because of Philip Green's dodgy tax affairs. I find their kids' clothes and school uniforms v cheap so I may possibly have Ben known to cut the labels off.

stareatthetvscreen · 25/09/2014 18:37

john barrowman

hes bearable (ignorable) when he talks on tv but I have to mute him when he sings

have been doing it for years

dannydyerismydad · 25/09/2014 18:39

Tesco - for doing their hardest to put everyone in a 10 mile radius out of business. I don't want to live in the State of Tescos.

Giraffe, for being owned by Tescos

Currys/Dixons for ripping me off as a child, 30 odd years ago.

Starburst, for not being Opal Fruits

Nestle, for obvious reasons.

And I thought I was boycotting all things Murdoch, until I discovered they own Harper Collins. I do love a good book Hmm

Elysianfields · 25/09/2014 18:39

Kinder eggs. At least 2 children have died after choking on the toys. I would never let my dcs have kinder products, they thought I was a loon, and they would never eat plastic toys.

Oh, and Kinder Eggs because of the stupid boy/girl shite.
