heard two crackers while out in Zimbabwe.

firstly we arrived at our Lodge in Vic Falls and were greated by

"Fatnass" (that's the spelling DH says they probably used - but pronounced Fatness)

and on the list of contact at the Hwange safari Lodge was a

"Whatmore"

OP posts:
Hallgerda · 08/09/2006 09:07

Surname not Pod, fortunately.

BettySpaghetti · 08/09/2006 09:21

Greensleeves -throughout my last pregnancy DD insisted on calling the bump/baby Rainbow to the extent that I was convinced it would be a nickname that would stick (even grew to like it). However as soon as baby was born Rainbow was never used again -probably quite fortunate as I had a boy!!

WishICouldGiveUpWork · 08/09/2006 09:26

I thought the same about Senna, middle name potenitally "Kot"?

I assumed it would be pronounced Seena until she told me it could be spelt with a double nn-very confused.Only got it in a text so guess I will have to speak to her to clear it up once and for all...

louise35 · 08/09/2006 10:20

We saw a child on holiday called Colon!

annieapple7 · 08/09/2006 12:01

I love this thread. I know a couple who called their children Kitty and Teddy. Cute for children, but not so sure about when they are grown up...

MrsBadger · 08/09/2006 12:42

bet they change them to Katherine and Edward...

CheekyGirl · 08/09/2006 13:24

breadandroses - it's Artemis. Geronimo, then Galileo and Artemis. I am a midwife and looked after the family when the twins were born a few months ago!!!

Smurfgirl · 08/09/2006 14:00

Heard a mum telling 'Nivea' to be quiet yesterday in town

lemonaid · 08/09/2006 14:25

Could have been Nevaeh ("Heaven" spelled backwards) which is catching on in some circles...

yeahinaminute · 08/09/2006 16:25

My aunt changed her name to Senga because she hated Agnes so much ...!!

belgo · 08/09/2006 16:30

Senna is a popular name in belgium where I don't think they have heard of the laxative! Also heard of twin girls being called Stefanie and Stefielle. Also heard of Isabeau for a girl, presumably instead of Isabelle.

shimmy21 · 08/09/2006 16:51

I taught a Faye King

and have a friend called Ufuk (fine in Turkey where she comes from but not so good when she moved over here)

bramblina · 08/09/2006 19:14

I know a girl Storm and her brother is Beau. My sister's friend has 3 girls, India Beatrice, Skye Phoenix and Coco -can't remember her middle name but it isn't Chanel. Though my 2nd cousin's dd is Chanel. I over heard a woman shout on her 2 dds in Gyle, Edinburgh- "Kylie, Sabrina, hurry up!"
Canadianmum it's just " aunts ".
peachy, iI think Bono has a daughter called China Blu? Something like that anyway.
A lady in my village is called Lulu, she's German and lovely. She's friends with my MIL though, whose dog is called...Lulu. They often go for walks together .
Friends have grandson called Shay.

mousiemousie · 08/09/2006 19:17

yeahinaminute is she in the Stirling area?

bramblina · 08/09/2006 19:20

Aitch71 it's Pocahontas McGuire I'll never forget it, she was mentioned in the Daily record around the time Romeo Beckham was born, they did a spread on names. Also mentioned was an Iona Wardrobe...
A friend swears she went to school with an Annette Curtain. I know a woman whose maiden name was Hunt, her first name is Virginia.

Rhubarb · 08/09/2006 19:25

Morticia made it onto the home page! Wahey!

Mirage · 08/09/2006 19:37

There was a little lad in our local paper because he'd won a bike. His name was Ghengis Khan.

Whilst out shopping today,I heard a dad shouting 'Beyonce, come back here!'to his daughter.

melpomene · 08/09/2006 19:51

I used to work with a Joe King.

And a friend of mine gave her son the middle name Zebedee.

A bit off topic, but my parents use a plumber called Mr Plumb and a tree surgeon called Mr Oakes.

mousiemousie · 08/09/2006 19:58

Arcadio and Adora
American mother

Albertsmum · 08/09/2006 20:06

A friend of mine taught in Rwanda and she had a 'Gerturd' in her class. She assumed it was Gertrude, but was told quite firmly that it was Gerturd!!

I also encountered a boy called Carver on holiday in Canada this summer whose mother was a very good skier... still that is North America for you

ProfYaffle · 08/09/2006 20:15

I'm currently looking for names for my next baby, one baby name website I looked at today suggested 'Lucifer' as a biblical name!

BettySpaghetti · 08/09/2006 20:22

ProfYaffle -when my friend was in hospital having her DD there was a young girl in the next bed who wanted to call her baby Lucifer. She couldn't understand why people were trying to discourage her until my friend explained it to her.

Gem13 · 08/09/2006 20:42

bramblina - Bono has daughters called Jordan and Eve (sons called Eli and John).

The Edge has a son called Blue.

More useless trivia I didn't know I knew!

ProfYaffle · 08/09/2006 20:42

omg! I don't know much about biblical names but surely everyone knows who Lucifer is?

Lilypie · 08/09/2006 20:58

Used to be a baby photographer and once had newborn nigerian twins, the girl called Ademaya, the boy called Ademayo. How confusing is that?

Also had kids called Angel, Precious and Happy.

The worst was a baby girl called Natalie, fine only for her last name being Slattery.... bad, bad parents for doing that to her!
