heard two crackers while out in Zimbabwe.

firstly we arrived at our Lodge in Vic Falls and were greated by

"Fatnass" (that's the spelling DH says they probably used - but pronounced Fatness)

and on the list of contact at the Hwange safari Lodge was a

"Whatmore"

I have a friend who worked in A&E in Paisley and said she saw a kid called Pocahontas. She also saw a boy called Nike. There's a woman I've heard of near here called Sue, who married into the surname Siddell. And I know of a toddler called Ptolemy. Mind, my parents gave me a christian and middle name that means my initials are "RC" - how did they know how I'd turn out all those years ago?

mishw · 07/09/2006 15:14

A few years ago I worked as a temp at uni and one of the students was called Wayne King - I always thought that was a Graham Norton joke.

I also once came across someone with the unusual name of Wiggy - thought it must have been a nickname but no on her passport her given name was Wiggy! Why would you do that to your child?

PeachyClairHasBadHair · 07/09/2006 16:00

I feel awful in case his family come on here, can I emphasize that from what I hear he is a nice bloke?

Dh knows a Wayne Anker

often credited in the carnival circle as W Anker

Brief moment of respect due there, I think

3andnomore · 07/09/2006 16:04

OH this thrad has given me some giggles!
I am all for unusual names, but I suppose I always feel you should only take it so far...lol...but I know that some people believe I am off my rocker for calling my boys Sven (swedish, but common in Germany, and I am german), Yannic (french-ish...again a common name in Germany) and Flynn (used to be character in Home& Away and I just loved the name)...well.....I blame my dh I always wanted a Noah, and wasn't allowed!

i work with a guy called freedom, hes from france, i used to go to school with triplets called, Hope Faith and Charity (v.v.religious parents) theres a little boy called Fenton in my girls class,

tessasmum · 07/09/2006 16:45

Have heard of boy triplets called Willow, Oak and Ash!! I think Willow is pretty for a girl and used Ash for DS but Oak

LaDiDaDi · 07/09/2006 16:54

I know a lovely family with the surname Fenton but unfortunately they called one of their dds Ella.

I have also encountered a family with dds called Soya and Coco and a ds called Tarot .

rustybear · 07/09/2006 17:22

One of my friends had twins in the first class she taught called Ribena and Delrosa.
And DD has a friend called Mike Rack.

ZacharyZoo · 07/09/2006 17:28

DH has friend in USA with a daughter called Joey-Jett. My kids names are Evangeline (which she hates!), Madeleine and Zachary. I loved Noah for a boy's name, but DH was having none of it, his kids are Harry & Lucy, so deciding on Zac was quite brave for him!

amc160884 · 07/09/2006 17:28

ribena, you have to be kidding.

Xavielli · 07/09/2006 19:22

Roolie - Our next boy will be Louka Jay, Louka is the Greek varient of Luke.

I grew up with a girl called Gaye, it's ok if thats what floats your boat, but to couple it with the surname Pratt is just plain cruel.

Lady in the bed opposite me when I was having DS called her girl Shakeela. She couldn't get more white trash if she tried!

Also, lived in the same block of flats as a Storm. She had a twin brother called Tempest.

Just because I know how much you all like to ridicule my children's names I'll stick them on here too. Xavier and Eliana.

gingernutlover · 07/09/2006 19:37

i went to school with a griselda

gingernutlover · 07/09/2006 19:39

not quite the same but my initials are RC

or arsey! as my dh likes to say

rustybear · 07/09/2006 19:39

'Delrosa', for the younger ones in the audience, was a type of rose-hip syrup popular in the 60's - so i suppose you could say it goes well with Ribena.

peachygirl · 07/09/2006 19:53

a couple I 've come across are
Shayd - currrently at the school I work in.
Chynna blu - in my last school .
I also ran a course that was attended by a woman called Winsome -it really suited her she was lovely.
Dh and I currently like Nova if we have a girl, in fact the plan is to give my maiden name as a middle name so it would be Nova Peach.. then our surname. She would be named after a an actress who worked with Alfred Hitchcock, but there is the Planet of the apes link.
Go on I'm open to opinions.....

ilovecaboose · 07/09/2006 19:56

I went to school with a Griselda as well.

Can't believe some of the names on here

canadianmum · 07/09/2006 20:20

Woman in bed next to me wanted to name her son Wayne or Jaden. I was sitting there rooting for jaden and of course she chose Wayne - why why why?

Knew twin girls called Destiny and Skye, their Mum was very hippyish or could you guess that?

My boys had a music class with an Atticus.

canadianmum · 07/09/2006 20:22

forgot one - yoga teacher's daughter's name is Delilah Chardonnay

toadstool · 07/09/2006 20:22

Recently taught:

Loulou
Bunny
Went to uni with a Timon, and a China (shortened to Chine)
I've also taught 2 Diktynnas, which is probably a record.
My favourite, Overheard in Liverpool Toys'R'Us [I'm a scouser, don't flame me!]: "Eh, Venus! Put that down!"

Greensleeves · 07/09/2006 20:24

DH and I have decided that if we have a little girl we will call her Rainbow. And you can all go p*ss up a rope if you don't like it

JoolioTooterini · 07/09/2006 20:24

I can SING a rainbow

Gem13 · 07/09/2006 20:25

DH's cousin taught twins in Hong Kong - Healthy and Hearty.

Apparently the wealthy Chinese families (this was a private 'English' school) like to take on Western names. Cousin and his DW joked they had been reading cereal boxes.

lemonaid · 07/09/2006 20:38

Quite like Atticus, actually. I wouldn't dare myself, but I'm glad there are people in the world who will.

nooka · 07/09/2006 20:45

Oh, I forgot, dd has a little boy in her class called Attilla!

canadianmum · 07/09/2006 20:46

Maybe Attilla will have a baby brother called Genghis?
