heard two crackers while out in Zimbabwe.

firstly we arrived at our Lodge in Vic Falls and were greated by

"Fatnass" (that's the spelling DH says they probably used - but pronounced Fatness)

and on the list of contact at the Hwange safari Lodge was a

"Whatmore"

OP posts:
lorina · 05/09/2006 16:13

Oh I think Whatmore is wonderful ! For a man ? Not so keen for a lady.

Can I get your honest views on Summer for a girl ?

Carmenere · 05/09/2006 16:14

Nope Suzy I was in Mayday in Croydon.

lorina · 05/09/2006 16:23

I think Summer is a bit chavtastic. But tell me if I'm wrong

Pinotmum · 05/09/2006 16:25

I like Summer but wouldn't pick it as I am in an area which cultivates chavs. In the right area it would be fine I'm sure

YellowFeathers · 05/09/2006 16:26

When dh and I were looking round Nurserys for dd there was a little girl at one of them called Loveday.

Pinkchampagne · 05/09/2006 16:28

I have come across many bizarre names in my time!
I have known of a little girl called Leah-Jet, another called Addy-Blue. I have also come across a little girl called Charlie Brown & a boy called Ronnie Mc Donald!

LaDiDaDi · 05/09/2006 17:18

I know that there is a Pocahontas in the north-east and there is a rumour about a little Chlamydia too.
I've met a baby Ebeneezer and a baby boy called Happy. Twins called Blaze and Storm; individually i could probably quite them but together, no way!

JennT · 05/09/2006 17:23

My friend's daughter is in the same class as a Sky-Bleu

ruty · 05/09/2006 19:07

sorry, pmsl at Sky Bleu.

LiliLaTigresse · 05/09/2006 19:09

not exactly a baby name thing but just noticed today that somebody at the company I work for is called Joy Zone
mmmmmm

LiliLaTigresse · 05/09/2006 19:11

there was a Byron trying on shoes the other day at John Lewis

SSSandy · 05/09/2006 19:13

Biff is a cleaning liquid here

dmo · 05/09/2006 19:15

do these parents never think their child will grow up
how much piss will everyone take
if i had those names i'd be embrassed when applying for a job or going on a date
knew this lad in our year his surname was bennet and they called him gordon, we loved ripping into him

dmo · 05/09/2006 19:16

my boys read the oxford reading tree books at primary and there is a biff in them

eemie · 05/09/2006 19:32

Agree Medusa is verging on child abuse - what awful associations for her to grow up with.

But have heard worse - child at dd's playgroup was called Cain.

Love Comfort and Happiness - names of nurses I work with.

SSSandy · 05/09/2006 19:35

Met a baby called Education. The mother was from South Africa and she said it was common to express your wish for your child in the name

ruty · 05/09/2006 20:24

well at least he can shorten it to Ed. My dad knows a woman named Happy. He says the problem is she isn't very happy at all.

nooka · 05/09/2006 20:26

I was on the train with two little boys called Robson and Beckham... Lovely

SSSandy · 05/09/2006 20:29

Maybe it just sounds so strange because it's in English? To me Happy just sounds daft. Russians have lots of names like that Lybov (Love) Svetlana (Light) etc and Italians have Allegra which doesn't sound so bad, probably because it's in a foreign language, but it always makes me think of music lessons!

scotchick · 05/09/2006 20:34

Knew a Jamesina (no kidding!)

Know a Catalina so that doesn't sound odd to me.

The woman/girl in the bed next to me when I had my ds2 called her son Denholm - thought the midwife was going to die from keeping from laughing, she thought it was Denim. Her ds1 was Chelsea.

SSSandy · 05/09/2006 20:41

I had a Chinese woman sharing with me. Midwife asked her the name of the baby and she said "ei-a". Finally we figured out it was Reinhard (after the paternal grandfather) but she couldn't pronounce r or h or the final d

Think you need a baby name you can pronounce really

Kidstrack · 05/09/2006 20:56

I went to secondary school with a Diana Ross who now has 5 kids and she is same age as me (24)

Once met a lady on holiday called Glee - she was the most miserable woman I have ever met. Moaned about everything and went home early.

hulababy · 05/09/2006 21:00

Todays class list for DD's Preprep class are all very normal girl's ames. One Indian name, but rest are all Ellie, Emily, Katie, ...type names. A couple of slightly more unusual ones but still pretty conservative.
