Our dd3's middle name is Scout, dw wanted it as her first name but I reckon Kitty suits her better. Am guessing the parents of little Atticus had the same fave book as my dw

Gem13 · 07/09/2006 20:53

I know a Scout (girl - first name) and know at least 2 families who wanted Atticus for a boy but ended up having girls.

LaDiDaDi · 07/09/2006 21:14

My fave book too wheresmyfroggy.

I love the name Eliana - my friends in NL named their little girl that as a combination of grandparents names ...

My DS is called Rafferty - I get some looks when I say his name believe me .... I love it though - dare to be different that's me!

Xavielli · 07/09/2006 21:43

I love the name Rafferty. Doesn't go with DP's surname though... his name is very Greek.

Beauregard · 07/09/2006 21:44

I like Rafferty too

beautifulgirls · 07/09/2006 21:46

There is a now retired vet - you can look it up on the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons web site - Surname Cock, First name Everard.

justadad · 07/09/2006 21:47

I know of an Arlo Feelan - no prizes for guessing what he's going to be called at school!

Also have a nehpew called Athelstan....

Kirstie76 · 07/09/2006 21:54

Whatever name I gave Rafferty has turned out to be irrelevant as he has ginger hair!!!

shazronnieWEARINGSHOES · 07/09/2006 22:11

DH used to work with a Shadi Carrier

aitch71 · 07/09/2006 22:15

there is a pocahontas mcsomething in the glasgow area, i know her (slightly unpofessional) speech therapist. and according to my godlike consultant at the Princess Royal, there really was a Chlamydia and a Febreze registered from there. apparently they all tried to dissuade the mothers but they weren't having any of it. he is a bit of a joker but he swore blind that it was true. as did the nurse who was there at the time.

Ever heard of girls name "Sena"?

Friend just named her dd,said it could be spelt cena-never heard of it!

lionheart · 07/09/2006 23:01

At school a Vietnamese boy arrived and his surname was Fuc. The teachers would try to pronounce it any way but the way he insisted it should be pronounced. You can imagine the sniggers every time the register was taken and the teasing he endured. When we got to know him a bit better and asked him why he didn't alter it to fit with English sensibilities he said that only he and his sister had survived the terrible journey the family made from Vietnam--his parents and the rest of his people had died on the way. He said it didn't matter how people reacted because he'd always carry on the family name with pride.
That stopped all the comments.

(Hope this isn't a thread killer).

How unfortunate! Senna is a well known laxative!

Whilst pregnant with last 2 bubs I had a deal with DH that if they were girls I would chose the name and if boys he could pick. Imagine my relief when I had a girl each time. His choice of name was Hereward! (Lady Godivas son apparently).

Thought I was a bit clever with DD1-her initials spell RIO. Didn't do so well with DD2, she's ERM!

ruty · 07/09/2006 23:29

lionheart.

CristinaTheAstonishing · 07/09/2006 23:48

I like Attila. We already have Vlad and Alaric as middle names.

shelley85 · 08/09/2006 00:14

i used to go to school with a boy called sonny, his middle name was ray, his sister was called ria, her middle name was light

also a boy called keegan

MrsBadger · 08/09/2006 08:12

2ndTime, you have just cleared up a longstanding mystery!

When we got married DH emailed a friend for the name of her '+1' so it could go on the table plan, and I thought DH was taking the piss when he told me his name was Here Swallow - Here pronounced Herry.
Had no idea what to expect when we met him but were sure he'd be exotic, so were mildly nonplussed to meet a very nice white middle-class boy from Windsor.
Now realise it was obviously short for Hereward and he had Godiva-lovin' parents...

Xavielli · 08/09/2006 09:04

Sure Sena/Cena would be pronounced See-na Like John Cena (the wrestler )

Hallgerda · 08/09/2006 09:06

I know a Senna pronounced as in laxative.
