My mum often put my hair up with elastic bands and it hurt like hell getting them out....................and awful cheap plasters that became part of your skin, could only be forced of after a long soak in the bath while painfully peeling them off with a knife.

I do the hand clapping with DD, she loves it. We do "oh little playmate" and "I went to a chinese restaurant" and her fave "a sailor went to sea, sea, sea".

Gingeme · 18/06/2006 16:42

Mrs Noah I have to confess I have rang my sister my Mum and my sister in law and we could all only think of those 3 songs I gave you. The hand clap songs are in about the same league too.Can remember the ones crazydazy said. I do pat a cake with my ds and a sailor went to see see sea. I remember one about Popeye the sailor man who lived in a caravan. When he went swimming he chased all the women, hes Popeye the sailor man. toot toot! But I dont think thats very pc these days Grin.

Doing lifesaving badge in the local swimming pool wearing pyjamas.

Royal bue or red Ladybird fleecy dressing gowns with ladybird buttons down the front . Sweet! And Ladybird clothes were considered quite upmarket then.

Black and white booklets of orphaned children called "Sunny Smiles". You were supposed to sell pages to adults to raise money for children's homes.
It makes me want to weep to think of them now Sad

2shoes · 18/06/2006 21:52

can enyone remeber when we only had 2 chanels. then bbc2 came. remeber watching the waltons on it. loved that programme.

Lemmingswife · 18/06/2006 21:55

What about the Natwest piggies??!
I only managed to save enough to get the one in the nappy!

Gingeme · 18/06/2006 22:22

Oh yeah those poor children. Didnt actualy realise what it was about at the time but it seems so sad now doesnt it? Think I only got the piggy in the nappy too. Do you remeber Buzby? and Chrystal Tips and Allistair? Getting on a bus for 2p and making a phone call for 2p! Never quite getting the money in before the pips run out.

theshrimp · 18/06/2006 22:27

Chrystal Tipps was very acidy wasn't it? Ds watched recently and seemed fascinated that this is what I watched in the "olden days"

Gingeme · 18/06/2006 22:35

Acidy?! I remember my sister putting my hair in lots of little plats when it was wet just before I went to bed and it used to stick out like Chrystal Tips the next morning. Toyah Wilcox now theres a bad hair day.....

2mum · 18/06/2006 22:59

I used to watch the Ateam and knightrider and eat sherbert dips and i used to wear jumpers with elbow pads and awful skipants.

sweetmonkey · 19/06/2006 08:48

2shoes sorry only just seen your question. im 24. Smile

Furball · 19/06/2006 09:45

I remember the sunny smiles - again, I had no idea what they were for at the time.

I also had a dressing gown with ladybird buttons and I also remember swimming in my PJ's - my problem was that my mum gave me short sleeved pjs and I couldn't knot the arms easily!

What about Whimsies, those little china animals, I think they were about 19p.

wanderingstar · 19/06/2006 10:17

Played in half built houses too ! or at the park all day.
parma violets.
walking to school aged 7, by myself or with a friend.
house with no central heating.
Morris Minor estate - no seatbelts of course.
Blue Peter.

themoon66 · 19/06/2006 11:30

Parma violets. Food made of perfume. Sort of nice, but not really edible all at the same time.

SaintGeorge · 19/06/2006 11:36

I love parma violets. And floral gums. And real turkish delight made with rose water.

pops3 · 19/06/2006 11:46

Spacedust. Anyone remember that? it would explode really violently in your mouth. I think it was banned in the end. Shame

wrinklytum · 19/06/2006 12:00

what about those "spaceships" made of wafer with sherbert in the middle? You used to get them with a 10p mix with fruit salads and blackjacks.Oh and particularly additive laden brightly coloured ice pops when it was hot and sunny

themoon66 · 19/06/2006 12:02

Space dust isn't banned. DS used to get it regularly. It has a different name now, but I cant remember what it's called.

SaintGeorge · 19/06/2006 12:05

Called Fizz Wizz now.

themoon66 · 19/06/2006 12:09

Fizz Whizz - that's it!!

Gingeme · 19/06/2006 12:15

Disco crisps. The salt and vinegar one were realy strong! Plastic see through umbrellas. When it was trendy to wear designer gear cause it was so expensive.

Furball · 19/06/2006 12:29

Plastic see through coats as well, you could get different colours - blue, pink or clear!! Very fetching
