My mum often put my hair up with elastic bands and it hurt like hell getting them out....................and awful cheap plasters that became part of your skin, could only be forced of after a long soak in the bath while painfully peeling them off with a knife.

Furball · 17/06/2006 18:22

Betty - Tales of the Unexpected starts on ITV2 on Friday!

Furball · 17/06/2006 18:24

Armchair Thriller - where the Thames TV Logo was at night and a shadow sat down in an armchair. Spooky even now!! and the one with the faceless nun was really cr@p your pants sort of stuff.

BettySpaghetti · 17/06/2006 18:24

Furball -I won't be here though will I !! Its our meet up.

Must video it and see if its as good as I remember (I take it its the repeats rather than a modern version?)

southeastastra · 17/06/2006 18:28

no not the nun with no face argh!!! that gave me nightmares for years!

i'm pleased to see tales of the unexpected is coming back.

2shoes i can't see your brother, is he in the highchair?

i must switch off my pc and go and do something more interesting instead (why don't you) is that right??

I need to catch up.

Green Shield and Pink Shield stamps. We got loads because mum worked on a petrol forecourt. If the customer didn't want them, she got them. I loved using the stamp dispensing machine.

I actually did part of my Duke of Edinburgh Award working on a ward in the 'mental' hospital. Can you imagine the panic on Health & Safety grounds if that was suggested now?

Remember the cards in tea and cigs too.

Smelly rubbers! I had loads but the smell of them make me vomit now. Not banned because I bought some for me niece recently.

Dior · 17/06/2006 18:31

I used to love the cards in PG Tips! Had forgotten them...

themoon66 · 17/06/2006 18:47

And who's mum used to put their hair into ringlets for parties. Long hair was washed and twisted around long pieces of torn up old bed linen. You wore it like dreadlocks in bed overnight and the next day had wonderful ringlets when it was taken out.

Lemmingswife · 17/06/2006 18:49

Do you remember the Milly Molly Mandy rag dolls?

Blandmum · 17/06/2006 18:51

oh god, every saterday night! Ready for Sunday school the next day.

Saterday night was bath night. Used to have a bath and then eat sweets watching TV. Then the torture of the hair thing (My hair is dead straght!)

Then brushed out in the morning.

Sunday morning was always the sound of mum making sunday lunch, listening to 2 way family favorates, and then sunday school. Sunday tea was sandwitches, cakes and friut salad with evaporated milk and bread and butter (barf!)

themoon66 · 17/06/2006 18:55

Sunday school was lovely. Colouring in pictures of St Francis of Assisi etc. Then home to sunday lunch.

Sunday nights were horrible knowing it was school next day. Sing Something Simple on the radio was my signal to get in the bath.

JanH · 17/06/2006 19:19

Our Sunday School gave out coloured picture stamps that you licked and stuck...somewhere...don't remember that bit! Grin

crazydazy · 17/06/2006 19:28

I haven't read all the thread so forgive me if I am repeating it but does anyone remember "Charlie says....." the little boy with the striped top who had a cat who spoke gobledidook he was used as a warning to kids.

themoon66 · 17/06/2006 19:32

crazydays - yes i remember that. and I was a grown up. You are making me feel old.

Blandmum · 17/06/2006 19:34

my cousin used to call Sing Something Simple 'One septic pimple' The Mike Sam Singers!

Gawd!

And songs of praise on TV

crazydazy · 17/06/2006 19:36

It totally struck home with me.

There was that other advert too with the cloak and the water danger - scared the shit outta me I can tell you.

There are no adverts like that nowadays, can you imagine it???

Gingeme · 17/06/2006 19:36

Oh wow all these lovely lovely memories. Anyone remember Swap Shop? I used to fancy the pants off Keith Chegwin Blush and french skipping at school with about 8 elastics around the foot of the bench in the playground. All bumping in to eache other trying to do all the tricks. The R Whites lemonade advert with the man creeping down the stairs for a glass of lemonade. As if it was something realy naughty. He he

themoon66 · 17/06/2006 19:36

Was it the Mike Sam singers? Are you sure? I thought it was the King Singers.

JanH · 17/06/2006 19:37

Oh god, it really was the tedious depressing end of the weekend, wasn't it?

Sing something simple...just you and I...
Sing something simple...as cares go by...

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGH

themoon66 · 17/06/2006 19:38

And doing big skipping at primary school. A massive long rope with one person at each end 'winding'. Everyone had to 'run-in' as the rope turned. We were a little village primary school and could get almost the whole female population of the school within the one rope.

There were rhymes - one i remember - I know a bubble car, its number's 48, I took it round the corrrrrnnnner, and SLAMMED on the brakes'!!

themoon66 · 17/06/2006 19:39

Right - i'd better get off, much as i love this thread. Am off to a BBQ. Wonder if I should get everyone skipping instead of the karyoke

BettySpaghetti · 17/06/2006 19:40

...those toys that you put round your ankle and jumped over ( a plastic ring with a cord with a ball attached to the end IYSWIM).

waterfalls · 17/06/2006 19:41

Does anyone remember the Daz advert with the guy on the horse, and then what you thought was the next advert would come on, and this guy on his horse would ride through holding a packet of Daz.
