sorry, they were babies and pre-schoolers

had not had kids at that point either so idiocy of missing school for castings hadn't really sunk in

hahahehe · 24/11/2005 15:13

Enid, a lot of schools see it as a school acheivement (a child doing well in something they are good at!) Its the same as a kid who is good at football/athletics/sports taking part in an event during school time.

marymay · 24/11/2005 15:13

hi all. has anyone whos children got a contract from urban angels october intake received their password to view their photos on the website.i havent heard anything yet.cant wait to see my dd pictures .hope this makes sense

mykidsmum · 24/11/2005 15:15

Marymay pics aren't up yet, e-mail the agency if you want the password, pics will be done in dec or janI think.

perfumelady · 24/11/2005 15:55

marymay. i emailed alysia she told me the password would be sorted shortly. the two photos will be posted out in december. did you receive a photo by email a few days ago?

perfumelady · 24/11/2005 16:01

ENID i don't think anyone has said that they take there kids out of school to do a casting, most people have said that they didn't bother with castings, and i just wanted to know what happens at a casting.

tinkerbellchelle · 24/11/2005 16:27

Enid, am I missing the point here ( cant be bothered to read thru the whole thing ) have you worked in modelling before in front or behind the camera? Who did u work for?

sh11 · 24/11/2005 16:34

it seems to me that enid does not approve of child modelling! if that is the case what is she doing in this discussion as I suppose it was meant to be for people to share and discuss their positive experiences with others new to the field, remarks such as hers suggest that she is trying to stir or is genuinely against the idea. Then why doesn't enid come up with better comments such as who to avoid who to go with - unless she worked for a dodgy agency herself.

rosesarered · 24/11/2005 17:22

Hi I am new here, but had a look and you all seem to be pretty honest. My D has been offered contracts by, bizzykidz, models direct, little acorns and childs play. BUT now really confused about which one to go with. Any opinions would be great. thank you x

tinkerbellchelle · 24/11/2005 18:16

Hiya Welcome
My advice would be firstly to AVOID models direct they are a scam. Bizzykidz we are with and I think there are a few mummies on here who are also.. we've yet to have a job only been with them over a month. There are mummies who have had work.
Little acorns and childsplay Im afriad I haven't heard anything from so cant help there.
Were these the only agencies you applied to? Just wondering if u have any others to consider as well.
My advice would be research as much as possible xxx we're pretty new to it but Im sure there are other mummies who can help xxx good luck xxx how old is your little one? x

2ManyPimms · 24/11/2005 18:34

Roses - I am currently with BK but haven't had any work since joining in September. They are very good about getting back to you when you have a question and many mums have had excellent experiences with them. Good luck!!!

Enid - No responses to our genuine questions? Not surprised.

rosesarered · 24/11/2005 18:37

Hi tinkerbellchelle thankyou for your comments, have applied to norrie carr, got told to re apply too many children on their books my D's age, and also MOT got turned down by them
am really interested in scallywags and urban angels but niether are taking on any more until May. Will apply to Elizabeth Smith soon too, heard they are really good, trying to do my research before I part with any money. Why are models direct a scam?

tinkerbellchelle · 24/11/2005 18:41

Oh there is loads on various websites about models direct taking the money and then requesting more and doing NOTHIN to get child work and they basically take on everyone that applies ( no reflect on your LO )
I thought when I looked on scallywags website that in january they are opening there books I may be wrong.
If you do a search on here with models direct you will find some posts.... please dont do it xxx
there are many other top agencies out there xxx
p.s good luck xx

marymay · 24/11/2005 19:14

perfumelady.i havent received a photo by email yet.our computer wasnt working for a few days so maybe i will get one soon.was you pleased with yours?

perfumelady · 24/11/2005 19:21

hi marymay, the photo was fantastic, i would say its one of the best i have ever seen of her, if they are all like that then i know your be over the moon with yours

sh11 · 24/11/2005 19:27

Hi everyone, I recently wrote to Mamas and Papas, regarding whether they use Models direct or not - Laura from MD said they had a photoshoot a few weeks ago. Apparently they did!!!!!

This is the reply I recieved:

Thank you for your enquiry regarding Models Direct.

We have only recently started using this agency and are very happy with the service and babies they have provided so far. Some of the babies they represent have attended a couple of our photography shoots.

We also work with some other agencies which you might like to consider:

Eurokids ?

Kidz National ?

Tuesdays Child ?

DK Models ?

So what I think is they do take on nearly everyone that applies but also do get some babies/kids jobs. Its a matter of taking a chance with them!?!

tinkerbellchelle · 24/11/2005 19:36

Well thats good news then. They were investigated by watchdog, so to me that makes them fishy.
I personally wouldnt use them not when there is some top top london agencies out there who have a MUCH better reputation.
I think they do probably find work for people but it seems that they take on everyone who applies takes ther money and hardly any get any jobs?
Maybe they are changing?

crunchie · 24/11/2005 20:02

In Enid's defence, she did definately work casting babies/taddlers as she said. She has said theis on many occassions over the years and not just on this thread.

My understanding about her reservations of teh whole industry is that there are

  1. so many scam comapnys around (inc MD)
  2. there are so many mummies trying to get their kids into modelling
  3. said mummies 'appear' to live through their children. (NOT ALL MUMS DO THIS, BUT I HAVE SEEN THEM AT EVERY SHOOT I GO TO)
  4. kids are taken out of school
  5. behind the scenes it is quite horrible with nasty comments about our 'beautiful' children beng made
  6. the whole business of choosing on e'prettier child' over another

Enid if I am wrong about some of these points, I know you'll feel free to correct me.

Enid is just being blunt and honest, but because it was a while ago (before children) she may not have up to date info on good/bad agencies etc. If you all actually READ this thread you would find almost all answers to your questions, about good/bad experiences. I know it is a long thread, but keeping it all on one means the info is in one place.

Some of you know my kids do model, and I am happy for that, but they do it for a bit of fun

tinkerbellchelle · 24/11/2005 20:12

crunchie, well said I think you answered a lot of questions.
I know SH11 said models direct are doing ok BUT when we first looked into modelling they guaranteed they would get reece work and NO agency can do this. Also they kept pestering us and surely if they are SO busy they wouldnt have time for this.
Im just saying I really would be very WARY of them xxxx

marymay · 24/11/2005 21:12

hi perfumelady.glad to hear your dd photo was great.they asked my dd too pull some funny faces angry sad etc.which she really enjoyed doing .they also clipped her hair back not at all like she normally wears it.still they must have liked the photos to offer her a contract.it will be interesting to see her photo when i get it.

tinkerbellchelle · 24/11/2005 21:20

Marymay... which agency is this?
x

perfumelady · 24/11/2005 21:23

marymay, it's such a close up photo you see every feature so clearly, let me know what you think when you get yours. what did you think about the set up? i loved the photo shoot studio with the on suite make up room.

marymay · 24/11/2005 21:30
