Hi sh11 we also got the email to resubmit details for Bright Sparks. We have also received an offer from another agency -kidz, based in Manchester, has anybody heard about them? We are very new to this and to receive 4 out of 5 offers from various agencies makes me a little dubious about the whole thing. All advice kindly received.

mythumbelinas · 23/11/2005 13:54

Hi Yackertyyack - my little one is 21m. Sorry, but we weren't at the catalogue shoot u mentioned.

tinkerbellchelle · 23/11/2005 13:59

Loopyredangel what are the agencies you applied to?
To have a good response is a good thing I would think u would need to be more wary if one said yes and the rest said no
xx

yackertyyack · 23/11/2005 14:01

my thumberlinas, was interested because all of the models there were from Kids london and all of the mums were really nice. These were all babies (under a year) Must say was hearing excellent things about them - one little one had had 4 jobs in 2 months!!! We had only been with them 2 weeks when they called!
Good Luck

Hi sh11
I got the message from Bright Sparks too. We have now been offered another place with kidz based in Manchester. All advice would be kindly received, we are very new and to be accepted by 4 out of 5 agencies I am a little dubious.
I am steering clear of Models Direct, but info on Eurokids, Kidz Ltd, and Bright Sparks would be great to hear any of your stories about these agencies.

trace2 · 23/11/2005 15:16

loopyredangel my ds is withkidz of manchester, also dk of sheifield, not had work yet from kidz but had loads from dk, eurokids wanted him, but i had not heard much about them, but still thinking of going,

sh11 · 23/11/2005 18:02

eurokids seems to be excellent, heard from friends manchester based so all us londoners dont get a chance, cant complain though loads of agencies up here!!

sh11 · 23/11/2005 18:05

bright sparks is around manchester as well, we got accepted but i have not paid the £60 yet -i asked whether there was any chance of work as we are based in London, the lady was very to the point, i did not feel comfortable within the 2-3 min' conversation, theres really no point for us!

tinkerbellchelle · 23/11/2005 18:08

SH11 made any decisions yet which agency you are going with?
xxx

sh11 · 23/11/2005 18:26

well, already paid bizzy' see urban in jan - will let them know and see what happens, decide then on the spot. Will see if we get any work in the next 6 weeks of this year

perfumelady · 24/11/2005 09:15

morning everyone, i see that a lot of you say you turn down castings, we have never been to one,so could someone explain exactley what happens at a casting, is it just photo taking, does the child have to say lines? thanks

Willow2 · 24/11/2005 10:34

Anyone care to comment on my lengthy post?

tigeryuan · 24/11/2005 10:46

Willow2 - my son hasn't started school yet, so, no idea how to deal with it at the moment. But, thanks for sharing your view with us! I think education def. come first!

hahahehe · 24/11/2005 11:09

Morning all,
Willow2......sorry can't comment as my little one is not at school but I can see where you are comeing from.....with most castings etc its not even a few hours off it takes most of the day - I know a lot of people do tend to give up when the child gets to school age.
Perfumelady..... I can only comment on castings I have had with my baby and luckily the ones we have been to have been well organised and we were seen on time. One involved my son having pictures of his eyes taken, and another was a measurement taken and poloroid. Both a maximum of 10-15mins!! I can see why people don't do castings as if it takes you a while to get into london, the costs and with no guarentee of the job plus taking time out of school - it can be hassle! BUT it is part of the business!!! - However, we have been lucky enough to get a few jobs without castings (We like these ones!)
Tigeryun.......how easy is it for you to get time off work???? only ask because all of our castings/jobs so far, we have been called the day before!
Anyway, hope everyone is well and getting stuck into christmas shopping.....this time next month will be christmas eve!!!!!!

perfumelady · 24/11/2005 11:15

Willow2 very interesting point, both my dd's are at school both dd's are with differant agencies dd1 has had one job from bk and luckily that was in the summer hols (had nothing since.) dd2 has only been set up with urban angels for just over a week, so early days.

i wouldn't grab every job that might come our way, i wouldn't want it to take over our lives, i certainly wouldn't keep taking them out of school, maybe on the odd occassion if it was a big job.

i guess i will have to cross that bridge if i come to it, but i am totally with you that modelling is secondary to there education with out a doubt.

luckily for me i work from home so i would not have a problem getting off work, but i bet for some mums that does pose a problem when you get such short notice. how many of you have pulled sickies!!!!!

totallyfloaty35 · 24/11/2005 11:17

Hi Willow2, what agency is your child with? My DD's are 10 & 7 and there schools dont like them having any time off, even when they're sick i get a leaflet home about " the importance of full attendance". At the moment we have not had work or castings so not had to deal with the school about time off, also not sure on our agencies views on turning stuff down. However some of the mums have agencies that dont seem to mind them refusing castings etc-MOT JUNIOR i think is there agent.

tigeryuan · 24/11/2005 11:38

hahahehe - if i'm not that busy, should be okay to take half day off with short notice. also, depends whether i still have any hols left!!

Willow2 · 24/11/2005 13:24

Totally - he's with Bruce & Brown... or was!

MUM007 · 24/11/2005 14:05

Perfumelady: Acasting involves travelling half way across London to be seen with other kids for about five mins. The ones my DD has been one has involved pretending to make a daisy chain! and measurements and photos taken. Pretending to be dead!!! for a road safety advert campaign and just having a screen test to see what she looked like on TV. Depending on what it is for the child may be asked to do a number of things. A friend of mines daughter was asked on a casting to do a cartwheel (which she couldnt do) so its a bit difficult as you never know what they are expected to do. I know with BK they are 'casting your child all the time'.Meaning when they are sent the brief by the casting agent of what they want they send all the children they fit the bill and the casting agent will just pick a few faces they want to actually see.I think this is better because some agencies just send loads of kids up to London and many of them are not even going to have the slightest resemblance to what they are looking for.BK just send the selected few so there is more chance of them actually getting the job.I know from my experience with BK that there has not been loads of kids on our castings. I think a casting director knows as soon as the child walks through the door whether he or she is what they are looking for. Hope that helped.

MUM007 · 24/11/2005 14:07

Sorry for double posting very impatient with the fingers!!!!!!!!

Enid · 24/11/2005 14:08

do mothers really take their kids out of school to go on castings

sh11 · 24/11/2005 14:23

theres an agency in romford called plain jane if anyone wants to have alook
www.plain-jane.co.uk/

sh11 · 24/11/2005 14:42

they have recently launched and from the website seems that they need more models in all categories especially babies girls and boys.

sh11 · 24/11/2005 14:47

it seems enid was not running castings as she claims, if she was booking children, maybe she would realise that some school age kids may have missed school on that day, unless her agency only worked evenings and weekends?
