Since we have lost our way back to the thread having it posted somehwere other then chat it may hang around longer. So this time our breadcrumbs lead back to Other Subjects, sounds fascinating doesn't it?!

Anyway, NWG, KAQ, TW, and others, all welcome, to loiter and banter, I hope my link works cause they seldom have in the past.

So much going on with everyone! Yes, thank God for google, I always find (although googling medical things scares me [embarrassed] I get DH to do it) going to the gp you have to know what you need, which is ridiculous.

TW, hope my many mistakes here don't make noises on the blackboard! Half the time I can't find my glasses, the other half, well, my typing is just (two fingers only!) awful. So sorry to hear about strange times, hope things get back to normal in oz soon.

Ah, had been looking in the wrong area (Off the beaten track) so am very glad I posted a link to this thread for AmazingBouncingFerret but just caught up with topics and not sure if you are interested, KAQ but someone on geeky_stuff had some problems with some dumb NHS setup...

Anyway, have now downloaded 9 week course of MP3s to play while going "From Couch to 5K" and plan to start running in a month's time, when snow is unlikely and I am feeling keener.

Finally, as no-one else on the net knows, Happy Birthday to Me !!! :)

Doing nothing special but will perhaps have a nice big pizza and a can of cider (would have had a Chinese takeaway, but they are closed on Tuesdays, here - mind it would have been first Chinese in 5 years, at least).

NetworkGuy · 15/02/2011 17:13

Sent a PM to ABF today and had a reply. She has some operation coming up, so I'm definitely wishing her all the best.

(I didn't ask what the op was for, might be TMI but my brother-in-law came through an operation about a year ago and is now considered all clear of cancer, though he will have regular checks, so can only hope that ABF's op will have some beneficial effects, and hope that knowing others care, may help calm some of her concerns, too.)

KickArseQueen · 15/02/2011 23:16

ABF

Thinking of you, fingers crossed for whatever it may be. Hope you are ok, come and chat when you are feeling up to it :)

KickArseQueen · 15/02/2011 23:17

Hi NWG,

Happy Birthday To YOU!!!
Happy Birthday To YOU!!!
Happy birthday NWG!!!!
Happy Birthday To YOU!!!

Grin

Good for you on the running plans, I need to do that... goes off to google...

Oh!! any chance of a link?? I'm not sure exactly what the nhs thingy is but.... might help??

NetworkGuy · 16/02/2011 03:57

Don't want that many bumps but you can guess it is plenty.... 104% x 50% x 100

Will find you the link for the NHS running course (though I fully expect to be just 'walking briskly' the 5K and perhaps getting it to 10K another 9 weeks after the end of their 9 week course).

AmazingBouncingFerret · 17/02/2011 12:00

Aaaaaaaaaand she's found it! She's remembered to actually click on NWG's link aswell!

Woopah!

Thanks all for your concern re my operation. (I'm having spinal fusion surgery and having ribs shortened)

I passed my driving test yesterday!! Freeeeedom!

NetworkGuy · 17/02/2011 13:29

Congratulations on passing your driving test.

Must admit I'd prefer to pilot a helicopter than bother with the roads (at least in the UK, as they are quite narrow around here and few people have enough room to park the collection of cars that there are whenever they have teenagers getting to driving age.

Anyway, my garage has a dozen or so PCs in it, and I have no plans to make room for a car (and passed half way in my life, at a guess, so happy enough to use public transport - has served me well enough in UK, and abroad).

AmazingBouncingFerret · 17/02/2011 19:13

Thank you NWG! I did the school run for the first time today, place was chock-a-block with cars and I'd only ever done a parallel park in my instructors car which is a diesal. Mine is a petrol so I was left wondering what the fuck? when I had it in reverse and it wasnt moving backwards and cutting out Blush finally realised I should give the acelorator a bit of welly! Blush Blush

KickArseQueen · 18/02/2011 00:31

Big congrats ABF!!

Before you know it you'll be reverse parralel parking in teeny tiny spaces without batting an eyelid! 5 minutes either way on the school run makes a huge amount of difference on how many spaces there are too!

Just watch out for the obligatory resident parking loony - every school has one, its usually a man in his 80's with 2 sticks / a zimmer frame and a tendancy to screech at anyone who parks within 3 car lengths of their house, oh the joys!!!!

I'm so glad I don't have to drive to school any more, since we moved I can see the school (and the parking scrum!)from my house Grin

Good luck for your surgery, :)

thumbwitch · 21/02/2011 22:05

Oo, movement! Must remember to check Threads I'm Watching more often...

NWG - belated Happy Birthday to you!

ABF - woohoo re. driving test and yowch re surgery but then I expect it was pretty yowch before, if you need spinal fusion. So hope it feels better when it's done.

Hope everyone's life has settled down into a less distressing pattern and it's starting to mostly warm up for you all? It's getting cooler here but not much - and it's set to heat up again over the weekend.

seashore · 09/03/2011 13:38

Hi everybody, haven't been on the computer at all lately, zilch time, amongst other things dd keeps getting flus, stomach bugs, then we get no sleep ... aah, it's exhausting, she's missed so much playschool this year I'm worried about the same pattern happening again next year when she's at proper school, KAQ is there any secret other parents know about how to avoid so much sickness?

Happy Belated Birthday NWG!! Smile

Well done on driving test ABF, hopefully that'll be me next year!! Am due to tackle learning to drive soon. Congratulation on surgery too, sure you are glad it behind you Smile

Got to go dd's stomach is sore!

NetworkGuy · 18/03/2011 00:23

Thanks Seashore. Hope DD has been OK ever since!

KickArseQueen · 18/03/2011 17:28

Hi all, Sorry seashore!! no magic for sickness I'm afraid! NO4 had 6 days of constant vomiting :( No one else got it the whole time! the day he stopped another one started and was sick for 2 days, then 3 days after that one stopped dp was sick for 2 days!!! I'd dearly like to lose a few pounds and yet I didn't get sick! Hope your dd is ok!

Oh! there is one thing! If you keep your toothbrushes in the bathroom ( with the toilet) then keep them covered and wash the before and after use with the hottest water possible. Always close the lid when you flush!!!!!

When you flush the loo the toilet "aspirates" and sprays minute particles of whatever was in the toilet all over the room! So if it contained diahorrea(?) or vomit it can mean a fine spray of it including the bacteria that caused the problem going all over the toothbrushes and straight on to the next person. Can't find the link at the minute, but I'm sure someone will!!!

Hope everyone else is ok too!
:)

NetworkGuy · 18/03/2011 21:50

no link but some BBC Three shows on health/ disease did it in graphic detail by showing how filthy a bathroom in a student household got during a 4 hour party where lots of drink was consumed by both males and females...

Though males were main problem, I'm sad to say, and yes, bathroom is worst pace for keeping toothbrush - mine is in the kitchen!

seashore · 19/03/2011 13:40

Wow! Thanks so much you guys, dh just read your messages too and we're about to make major changes here now ... no more tooth brushes in the bathroom. And you know, we always used to keep the toilet seat covered, for years and years and somewhere along the line we stopped. Oh, I just remembered, it was me! This may sound OCD, but I had a habit of using a piece of toilet paper to lift or close it and I felt guilty about the waste (it went into a wastepaper basket for recycling), but I suppose I'll just resume that habit now. It's a small bathroom too, so not closing the toilet lid is really disgusting [embarrassed]

Sorry to hear kAQ that your dc and dp have been sick too but the way you put it up there did make me lol! You're a good comic Smile

NWG I'm so glad you've no link there! I can't even bear household cleaning product adverts on TV without getting the creeps!

Thanks Smile

thumbwitch · 19/03/2011 13:48

I have actually managed to train DH to always close the lid on the loo! Am very impressed with this as I believe in general it is quite a hard thing to do with some men (present company excepted, I'm sure Wink). We have our toothbrushes in a very large glass vase vessel so they are completely protected from spray, unless it goes in over the top - but with the loo lid down I think that would be impossible.

KickArseQueen · 21/03/2011 00:29

:) You have to keep your sense of humour!!!! Its the 1st rule!!! No4 lost quite a bit of weight with all the vomming, but he's chubbing up nicely again now! Love those little chubby legs! Grin

If it makes you feel any better I have to wash my hands every time I touch the toilet, even if I've just bleached it to within an inch of its life! Blush I'm the same with the bin! I clearly have issues! One last thing! dettol your door handles and any frequently touched things! Kids don't discriminate! They pick up bacteria on their hands easily and spread it about on anything they touch!

My kids toothbrushes are kept in the kitchen ( no power point in our bathroom!) and mine and dp's are inside the bathroom cupboard.
HTH!!!

seashore · 21/03/2011 13:09

Thanks all! DD has skipped for the 1st time in ages a whole day without any horrible tummy problems, it's been a tough time on her and she's got cabin fever being stuck in the house so we're hoping she can go back to playschool this week. Hope No4 gets back to his old self soon KAQ.

Thanks for advice about door handles too, I don't really know how far to go with trying to beat so many germs (I'd say cause you have more dc, you're right to try and keep it all super clean) see, the doctor said homes are too clean these days (not a problem here![Embarrassed])and that since cleaning products are so good nothing is left to live and that's bad for the immune system. Maybe what I'll do is on a day the cousins have visited then I'll do the dorr handles. I really don't know, cause part of our problem is that we live so remote, the doctor said dd's immune system relaxed until she started playschool and that's why she's been so ill all winter. Really hoping next year is easier on her, don't want her missing out on time at real school.

I'm so surprised everybody has always been so careful with their toothbrushes, am glad to join the gang! Smile

Oh, don't want to scare you all but have you seen the thread about books in the loo? [Shock] oh yuck, yuck, yuck!

OP posts:
NetworkGuy · 21/03/2011 13:43

Not seen that thread but keep seeing Virgin Media ads where there's a teenage girl sat on the loo using her laptop...

OK, she is 'decent' (makes me wonder why she is sat on loo) but one has to wonder how long she sits there while finding funny / sad items online (have seen her laughing and crying in different ads)...

NetworkGuy · 21/03/2011 13:45

'decent' as in having a long t-shirt which is used to cover half her thighs and goes across her lap, for the benefit of ThumbWitch who won't have seen the ad, I suspect.

seashore · 21/03/2011 18:34

I haven't seen that ad either NWG, sounds awful, maybe they should do a tie in with a prune juice company Grin

OP posts:
KickArseQueen · 23/03/2011 00:36

PMSL!!!
( as long as we don't get the sound effects!!)

Just so you know! I only ever clean door handles etc when one of the kids goes down with something in an attempt to stop the rest from getting it! If all 4 plus dp got D&V at the same time my life would not be worth living! My house could never be described as too clean Grin Blush

( I will admit tho Blush that the last time they started getting ill "etc" included ds lite buttons, remote controls, the list goes on... but only 2 of the kids got sick plus DP who gets every stomach bug anyway! So I think it did help!)

Fingers crossed your dd has had all the local bugs now and will be healthy from now on!
